The Hands of DoomBook 3: Costumes, hats and props

This book provides guides on how to create thecostumes, using materials and clothing that thechildren's parents can easily supply.

Patterns and guides are provided for the hats andinstructions are given for the tricks found withinthe show.

TemplatesAll templates are provided. Once the hats have been cut out and coloured, consider laminating them

for extra strength.

Female villagers – costume

– a large neutral-coloured man’s shirt, preferably with collar cut

off and belted with a brightly coloured sash

– long gathered skirt

– flowers or ribbons in hair

– face paint: lipstick and rosy cheeks.

Male villagers – costume

– a large neutral coloured man’s shirt, preferably with collar cut off

and belted with a brightly coloured sash

– dark trousers or track suit bottoms

– male villager’s hat

– face paint: moustache

– a large cloak, tied at the neck and ‘decorated’ with a variety of

household food wrappers previously cleaned

– a black long-sleeved t-shirt

– dark trousers or track suit bottom

– black washing-up gloves

– face paint: green face with black spots.

Cut out circle Cut along the lines so you end up with diamond segments

Roll A4 sheet of card into a tube Use sticky tape to create body of hat

Use the diamond segments to attach the already made tube

Punch holes at each end to attach elastic

Minor Bugs

Prop Suggestions'Hey Everybody' song

To illustrate cross-contamination of bugs during the song 'Hey Everybody', we would suggest the following:

1. Each pupil wears a pair of yellow marigold gloves.

2. Velcro (the rough side) is attached to the palm of the gloves.

3. Black felt circles (representing bacteria) about 3cm in diameter are attached to the velcro of every third child.

4. During the song, the children shake hands with each other and the felt is passed to every child.

Hygenie

When Hygenie appears, students blow bubbles.

The tricksWolfskin

1. The wolfskin slithers off the stage on its own.

2. When Valbrand removes the genie vase from the wolfskin, he attaches a tiny pin hook to which is attached a long

thin line or thread to the wolfskin.

3. This hook up is held by a Tree up to then, then handed to him.

4. The Tree then exits with the other part of the thread, and whips the skin off when cued.

5. The same method is used for the crawling sandwich.

Empty/Full jug

The simpler the better. A duplicate full jug is substituted for the original empty jug at an appropriate moment.

Green light

1. The green light from the elixir box is created using a small bicycle lamp or torch.

2. Cover with green gel or light green paper to give the necessary effect.

SceneryThe scenery can be as basic or as elaborate as wished. However, scenery is not vital as the role of the chorus as trees is to

act as a backdrop.

Countryside backdrop of painted fields, forests and rolling green hills

Village backdrop of painted houses, streets and shops

Cave backdrop of painted dark stone, broken rocks, craggy wall
