Purpose of Project

• Create A/C demand scheduler to reduce peak demand

• Important because pricing of electricity is a function of both the amount and the peak usage

• By scheduling the largest loads in a building (the air conditioners) to never run simultaneously peak power can be greatly reduced

• Created schematic of outdated circuit

• Created Logic Diagram for Microcontroller

• Implemented Logic on Altera FPGA

• Made Functional Prototype

Work Required

• Fit entire circuit into previous designs box– Create custom PCB layout– Use cheap small microcontroller to replace

large FPGA board

• Reduce cost by eliminating 1000$ FPGA prototyping board

• Add additional features– LCD display for visual input and verification– Serial port to connect to computer monitoring

station

• Met with Keith Benson to identify project specifications

• Read previous groups work and schematics to understand circuits function

• Identified DigiKey part numbers and pricing for all currently used parts

• Identified replacement microcontroller to replace FPGA board
