Life is interesting, exciting and fulfilling, but short. It is in our own interest to

pack as much as we possibly can into it. I realized this after fighting cancer for a

number of years. In the fourth year of my fight I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, and

now in my sixth year, at age 68, I am going to run the Comrades Marathon. How

exciting for me!

I’ve realized you can do whatever you truly want to, but how many of us truly want

to achieve and savour life to the full? Do not allow yourself to waste the precious

gift of life.

Toss the coach potato lifestyle and live! As your great mag clearly shows,

whatever your age, whatever your circumstances, whatever your infirmity,

anything you really want to do, you will!

Do it today if you truly want to experience what great things God has in store for

We have such great talent amongst us in our Club. I am going to imagine and think that we will have

many Silvers, Bill Rowans and Finishers at Comrades 2012.

OFFICE CLOSURE

The office will be closed from midday on Friday, 23 December until

Monday 09, January, 2012. However, the office WILL open on

Saturday, 07 January, 2012 from 10:00 – 12:00 for membership

renewals and for new member subscriptions.

The office will also be open on the following Saturdays

14th, 21st and 28th January, 2012 and 04 February 2012 from

10:00 – 12:00.

To speed up the renewal process, please fill in all the forms that

have been sent to you beforehand and oh yes remember to bring

them with you.

CGA WILL BE HOSTING TRACK AND FIELD MEETINGS IN

JANUARY AND ATHLETES WILL HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF A

CLUB AND WILL HAVE TO PARTICIPATE WITH A 2012 LICENCE

NUMBER. (NO 2011 LICENCE NUMBERS WILL BE ALLOWED).

NEW TRAINING GROUP TO START IN JANUARY 2012

Bob Harvey is starting a Vets Training run on a Thursday evening from the Parkrand Café. Corner Trichardts Road and Kirsch Road, Parkrand. Starting time will be 17:45.

Starting distance will be 12km and the distance will increase by 2kms every month until COMRADES. First evening of training will be Thursday, January 05, 2012. This training run is open to everybody (young and old) (new members, old members), (fast and not so fast runners) and not only to Vets (Those people that look after animals).

COMRADES 2012

Entries have already closed but substitutions will be allowed next year. If

you have an entry and are not going to use it, please let me know as I know

of a few members that have not entered and would like to. This goes for

the 2 Oceans Half Marathon as well.

TOUGH ONE 32KM REPORT WITH PHOTOS Karel Burger on his PB at the R.A.C. Tough One (32km). Karel completed the race in 2:03:41.

Klaus Bartels on completing his 10th R.A.C. Tough One (32km). Klaus finished the race in

2:21:02.

Mishack Mofokeng on completing his 10th R.A.C. Tough One (32km). Mishack finished in

4:43:00.

Frank da Ascencao on completing his 30th R.A.C. Tough One (32km). Frank finished the race in

2:36:42.

Emmanuel Magakwe race the RAC 5km in an impressive time of 15:50.

Katlego Mogotsi finished the RAC 5km in 24L33 with Kelebogile Moreo finishing in 26:51.

Loren and Allie Reynolds did PB’s on the RAC 5km, finishing 25:55 and 30:29 respectively.

ROAD RUNNER OF THE MONTH

November 2011

4 athletes stood out as contenders for the Road Runner of the Month Award

for November 2011.

The first nominee was RITA VAN WYK.

She is on the podium, every single weekend. Either as first or second

Veteran lady overall.

The second nominee was KALLIE BURGER.

His outstanding time and 4th place at Bela-Bela. 4th place overall God’s

Window 21km. First man home from the club at Tough-One with a great time

of 2:03:41,this was a PB.

The third nominee was ERIC OAKER.

Running the 4km Time Trial every Wednesday and according to the results he

is improving every time.

The fourth nominee was FRANK DA ASCENCAO.

He ran 30 Tough Ones in a row and this year he improved his time over his

last 3 runs. He also placed as 1st Master in the Bela Bela. First Master at

Paul Ras 10km in a very impressive time of 41min46sec.

Congratulations to RITA VAN WYK on being chosen as the Road Runner of

the month for November. Rita your prize will be available in January 2012.

The Blitz (Time Trial) will continue during the month of December. Starting time 18:00, from the

Jimmy Cawood Park, across from the Boksburg City Stadium, Jubilee Road.

The End of Year Mile

Every year, Steve de Bod, Boksburg AC’s esteemed Tuesday night track coach, challenges the troupes

and invited guests to a 1mile challenge for the final track session of the year. While some regulars

claimed that the possibility of injury / cramp/ calorie burning might inflict on their December vacation plans, a group of eager participants did show up to meet the challenge of Steve’s stopwatch. In some

cases we are never entirely sure if the attraction is the post run exploitation of champagne, or the

quest to run sub – 4minutes on this legendary distance.

After a steady warm-up, and the arrival of a few of Boksburg AC’s regular track runner’s (eeekk! ), we

all lined up under the starter’s orders. Let’s just say the first lap was rather rapid, with an elite group

quickly forming in the front. Further back, Caroline Koll and Greg Peebles played a strategic game, with

Greg finally making a break in the home stretch. Kristian Fesel despite claiming a ‘delicate’ hamstring

also managed to smash the clock. The mile victory eventually went to the very talented Michael Pienaar

in a time of 4’32, followed by Stefan Steenkamp in a time of 4’37”. Not that times are the important

part of this event;0...

Many Thanks to Steve and his eternal commitment to the Tuesday Night track session which will resume

in the second week of January!

belong to our club.
