Enrico Boggio Lera He was born in 1862 in

Bardonecchia. He graduated with honors in

physics in 1885. In 1887 he taught in the Technical

Institute of Sassari. Later he was transferred to the Technical Institute Carlo Gemmellaro.

He received several awards for scientific merit.

He died in 1956 at the age of 94 years .

• The building was founded as a convent for the nuns of SS. Trinity in 1556.

• The monastery was severely damaged by the earthquake of 1693.

• In 1866 it became a boarding school for women.

• In 1923 the high school building housed the first Liceo Scientifico in Catania called Prince Umberto school.

• In 1967 it was renamed as the Scientific Lyceum Boggio Lera.

• After the earthquake of 1693 the work of restoration was committed to the architect Alonzo di Benedetto.

• In 1735 most work was entrusted to Gian Battista Vaccarini.

• He built some stairs in the main building.

The courses

• The school offers three different types of school courses.

• Ordinary High School • Foreign Language High School

(teaching English French, Spanish, German and Arabic)

• High School of Applied Sciences• Ordinary Bilingual High School

• In the Main Hall there used to be the kitchens of the ancient monastery. Today it has been restored thanks to our headmaster Mr.Torrisi who wanted to renovate the premises according to its former splendour .

• Conferences, seminars and formal presentations are held.

• The science laboratory includes 3 rooms: biology room, chemistry room, room with video projector for lessons.

• All rooms are equipped with microscopes, ovens and other equipment for experiments.

• Every year there is the scientific week, where students through practical demonstrations, workshops and seminars promote scientific education.

• In this classroom students can practise listening and pronunciation of foreign languages .

• It features an interactive whiteboard and computers.

• The school organizes sports activities and competitions such as athletics, badminton, volleyball, basketball, table tennis.

• There are three gyms: two indoor and one outdoor.

The Library

The library is open every day and offers services to school and to the territory. It has 8300 cataloged books about a wide range of subject and themes.

In addition to the annual trips education is taught through bilateral, multilateral exchanges and partnerships with European schools of Euroschoolnet 2000, ELOS project schools and with other schools of European countries.
