VATICAN CITY – In his Wednesday morning audience in St. Peter’s square, Pope Francis said that the Holy Spirit unites and grows the Church despite human limitations, sins and scandal.
“The Holy Spirit is the creator of communion, the artist of reconciliation … He builds the community of believers by harmonizing the unity of the body and the multiplicity of its members.” The Holy Spirit “makes the Church grow by helping it to go beyond human limits, sins and any scandal,” he said.
Dedicating his Wednesday teaching to the Acts of the Apostles’ account of the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the pope reflected on how the Holy Spirit transformed and strengthened St. Peter. “On the feast of Pentecost, it is Peter who speaks, the rock on which Christ chose to build his Church,” he said. “His word, weak and even capable of denying the Lord, when crossed by the fire of the Spirit gains strength and becomes capable of piercing hearts and moving to conversion.”
“God in fact chooses what is weak in the world to confound the strong,” Pope Francis said, quoting St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. “The Church is thus born of the fire of love -- of a ‘fire’ that flares up at Pentecost, which manifests the strength of the Word of the Risen One imbued with the Holy Spirit,” he said. He explained that this fire symbolically expresses God’s work of warming, illuminating, and testing hearts, and His care in purifying and revitalizing human works. “The Spirit of God moves hearts to welcome the salvation that passes through a person, Jesus Christ, the One whom men nailed to the wood of the cross and whom God raised from the dead,” the pope said.
“As Benedict XVI said, ‘This is Pentecost: Jesus, and through Him, God himself, comes to us and draws us into himself,” he added. “Let us ask the Lord to let us experience a new Pentecost, which expands our hearts
and tunes our feelings with those of Christ, so that we proudly proclaim His transforming word and bear witness to the power of love that calls to life all that it encounters,” Pope Francis said.

Discipleship & Evangelization
WE NEED TO REVITALIZE OUR
DISCIPLESHIP & EVANGELIZATION
COMMISSION
In 2017 our parish leaders made a commitment to build a new parish culture in which we could shift our focus from maintenance to mission. Before Jesus ascended into heaven he gave his followers The Great Commission, sending them “into the whole world to make disciples, baptizing them and teaching them everything I have commanded you.” His goal was for his followers to build the kingdom of God on earth so that His will could be done as it is in heaven.
So we have been about the work of providing everyone with the opportunity to become intentional and missionary disciples. The Alpha course has played an important part in moving toward this goal. Small Discipleship Communities has become another important strategy in realizing a vision in which all are welcome to become friends with Christ, with each other, and with the least of His brothers and sisters. We are making progress.
We established a Discipleship and Evangelization Commission to provide insight and direction to the whole process of making disciples. While It got off to a roaring start it now needs some revitalization and redirection. A great need is to review the ways in which we provide children and youth a real opportunity to become true followers of Christ. It’s going to take more than our customary approaches to “Sunday School”, “RE”, and “Christian Formation Classes”.
We’re looking for a few people whose appreciation of God’s love and mercy for them is great enough to move them to become part of discovering “A New Way”.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN GROWING
THE FAITH OF OUR YOUTH?
Perhaps you’ve heard that young people are bailing out of the church in huge numbers. Many of them would leave earlier (as young as 13) if their parents didn’t make them come to church. This is a real crisis, especially when you consider that there is no evidence that young people are better off when they leave faith in the Church of Jesus Christ behind. So, what can be done? We’re looking for parents and “youngish” adults who are willing to come together and take a collective look at how we presently reach out to youth and to consider what changes we could make to at least improve the odds of more of them becoming and staying faithful to Christ and the Church. Why can’t we build a parish community in which our love and service of one another is so great that it becomes truly attractive to people of all ages. This has to involve more than “fun and games”. If you’re interested in gathering for a conversation, please contact [email protected] .

Since her retirement last August, Caryl Prati, RN, FCN is still eagerly awaiting to orient a new Parish Nurse for our faith family at St. Andrew Catholic Church! Are you maintaining an active OK Registered Nurse license? You will be amazed at how all of your nursing experiences will benefit this practice! Do not be afraid of doing something so different from actual clinical nursing.
Our God qualifies those He calls into ministry. OKC has a Basic Parish Nurse Foundation Course offered every Fall at Kramer School of Nursing. Call the parish office to talk with either Fr. Jack or leave a message for Caryl.

We can never say Thank You enough to our strong church family. The cards, plants, hugs and words that were received during this time has meant so much to each of us. To Fr. Jack, Deacon Angus and Deacon George, the Mass and burial were so special and well done! Love to all!

Our next meeting will be at 6:30pm, Thursday, June 27th in the McConnell Rm. Contact Karen Linch at 823-0803, if you have questions or would like a prayer shawl for a friend or loved one.
Hope to see you there!!!
Baptizing infants and young children has always been an important part of Catholic Tradition. So much so that over the centuries countless little ones have been baptized who grew up in families that were ill prepared to keep their promise to raise them as faithful Catholics. These “lax Catholics” are among the main sources of false and inaccurate information regarding Catholic beliefs and practices. So the overriding objective of this one session baptism prep is to give parents (and godparents who choose to attend) an accurate picture of the role this sacrament plays in the life of the church.
