If you have seen the movie Minority Report or a number of other futuristic filmsthen you may have seen this technology in action, or at least Hollywood’s re-creation of it.

Multi-Touch technology was put on display at Adobe TED in San Francisco, byJeff Han. Multi-Touch Sensing through Frustrated Total Internal Reflection (FTIR)

is on its way from the R & D room to the showroom. FTIR comes from thebiometric world, where it is used to read fingerprints. Now it is being used totrack multiple screen touches to manipulate screen objects.

A physical mouse and keyboard will no longer be needed as this technologybecomes a practical reality. Physically interfacing with any technology could berevolutionized with an interface that allows the technology to adapt to the userinstead of the user adapting to the interface.

Children with disabilities could see a marked increase in learning as thistechnology is used to adapt learning technology to them. Sizable keyboards or

floating keys that adapt to the hands of the user are now possible. A revolutioncould be in our near future.

Multi-touch interface is coming.

Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse or as heis more popularly known, PG Wodehouseis the man who brought new facets tocomedy. Wodehouse describes his writingin the following words:

“I believe there are two ways of writing novels. One is mine, making a sortof musical comedy without music andignoring real life altogether; the other is

going right deep down into life and notcaring a damn.”

Humor is one subject that needs alot of effort to come out good. It shouldessentially come in the package, and notbe a last-minute injection into nooks andcorners when the author thought hisproduct was too dry. That’s where

 Wodehouse triumphed. He churned out

humor in chunks. In his own words,

"I go in for what is known in thetrade as 'light writing' and those who dothat – humorists they are sometimescalled – are looked down upon by theintelligentsia and sneered at."

Wodehouse, known as Plum tohis close friends started writing at a very

young age. Living away from parents, hespent his holidays with his aunts, whichmay have led to the characterization of the formidable aunts in his novels, in thelikes of Bertie Wooster’s Aunts Agathaand Dahlia, and Lady Constance of theBlandings Castle. Wodehouse’s shortterm career as a banker may have possiblyled to the story of Mike and PSmith

starting theirs in a bank. Wooster-Jeeves, BlandingsCastle, PSmith were a few popular seriesfrom the great writer.

Perhaps this Pang Brothers remake would bemore interesting (and/or tolerable) if Nic Cage couldhave been convinced to play his character as a deaf-mute

hitman as the original story goes. Though they certainlyhave a cult following, the Pangs's brand of horror hasn'ttaken off with mainstream audiences here, what withtheir meddling English-language debut and that barelythere remake with J'Alba achieving back-to-backstrikeouts. Our suggestion: Scrap this version, redevelopthe remake with a bankable Asian star (Chow-Yun Fat, JetLi), set the story in the U.S., and watch the receipts roll in.Though we certainly will acknowledge that the movie

will probably rake it in across Asia.

Mozilla CEO John Lilly said he has noworries about Google jumping into the

open source browser market. In a blog posted on

September 1 before the beta release of Google’s Chrome on Monday, Lilly notedthat Mozilla’s Firefox has plenty of competition and reminded the public thatthe foundation’s primary motive is tokeep the web open.

Lilly’s blog continued:

“Mozilla and Google have always been

different organizations, with differentmissions, reasons for existing, and ways of doing things. I think both organizationshave done much over the last few years toimprove and open the Web, and we’vehad very good collaborations that includethe technical, product, and financial. Onthe technical side of things, we’vecollaborated most recently on Breakpad,

the system we use for crash reports — stuff like that will continue. On the productfront, we’ve worked with them toimplement best-in-class anti-phishing andanti-malware that we’ve built intoFirefox, and looks like they’re buildinginto Chrome. On the financial front, as hasbeen reported lately, we’ve just renewedour economic arrangement with them

through November 2011, which means a

lot for our ability to continuFirefox and in new things likservices.

“So all those aligned efcontinue,” he insisted. “And parts where we’re different, w

Mozilla’s Firefox will concompetitive, he said.

“With that backdrop, it’ll be see what happens over the coand years,” Lilly said.

The Mahabodhi temple at Bodhgaya islocated on the spot where the Buddhaattained enlightenment. The temple'sprinciple relic is a distant descendant of theBo tree under which the Buddha sat when

his enlightenment took place. The site, having been sacred to Buddhists since theearliest days of the faith, is of unknownantiquity. Elements of the temple datefrom the 3rd century BC, but the presentform of the temple is a reconstruction of alater form that would have been familiarto Hiuen Xsiang, the 7th centunry ChineseBuddhist pilgrim whose story is the basis of

"The Monkey King" drama of literaryreknown. The temple is one of the few early

monumental brick structures to havesurvived in eastern India. Its enormouscentral tower (55 m tall) is a 19th centuryrenovation faithful to the earlier towersthat existed on the site. The towercomprises numermous horizontal bands of

mouldings and arch motifs that extend

upward to an amalaka topped byumbrella-shaped forms, recalling theumbrella motifs found at Buddhist stupasdating back to the time of Asoka andearlier. Around the central tower are foursmaller towers added at the end of 19thcentury that mimic the form of the centraltower.

West of the main temple is a smallerarea housing the Boddhi tree relic. Here,on what may have been the firstsanctuary on the site, can be found astone seat from the 3rd century BC.Scattered around the site are plastercopies of stone posts dating from theShunga period. The originals are stored inthe nearby archaelogical museum andmay have been used in the earliest stagesof the temple to protect the Bodhi tree.

The Mahabodi temple is a sitesacred to all Buddhists, particularly thoseof the Theravada branch mainly found insouth and southeast Asia. In these areas, the form of the temple has been much

A Really 'Open'Tournament  by Jayalakshmi

Flushing Meadows is a busy place thesedays. Wyclef Jean has written a song about Venus Williams. Andy Roddick is probablythe most talked about young man insporting circles in the US. And a fallen herowill be trying desperately to claw his wayback to the top amidst increasing fight fromyounger, perhaps hungrier, players.

 Welcome to the US Open.

Roger Federer has gone without a GrandSlam victory this year, in mostuncharacteristic fashion. With NovakDjokovic having taken the honours at theAustralian Open and Federer's long-timenemesis Rafael Nadal winning the FrenchOpen and his first Wimbledon title, Federer

has had much to worry about. His dream of an Olympic gold has also remainedunfulfilled, his woeful form continuing tohaunt him in the Games at Beijing. What, then, is the prediction for the US Open?

While a Federer-Nadal finalmight still be the most talked-about match-up, there are quite a few people willing toruin it for the bookmakers, the frontrunner

People logging onto the LaughLab website were invited using a "Giggleometer" which had a five-point scale rang"not very funny" to "very funny".

One intriguing result was that Germans - not renowned fsense of humour - found just about everything funny. Thexpress a strong preference for any type of joke.

People from the Republic of Ireland, the UK, Australia anZealand most enjoyed jokes involving word plays.

One example was as follows. Patient: "Doctor, I've got a stuck up my bum." Doctor: "I've got some cream for that

Americans and Canadians, on the other hand, preferred there was a strong sense of superiority - either because looks stupid or is made to look stupid by someone else.

This was an example of American humour.
