    minutes of the June

    3,

    2014 meeting of the

    Board

    of Park

    Commissioners were

    approved

    following a

    motion by Mrs.

    Pierce

    and seconded by

    Mr.

    Phillips.

    REPORTS:

    The

    report

    from

    Jeremy

    Drake, Park Superintendent, was accepted as

    submitted.

    Mr.

    Drake added that they brought the candidate

    back

    for a

    second

    interview, sent him

    for a

    drug screen

    and physical, and

    they are

    now

    waiting for

    the results.

    After

    positive results

    are

    received,

    an appointment

    letter can be sent, and he

    can

    start working soon

    after

    that.

    Mr.

    Kappers

    asked if

    Mr. Drake

    had heard anything from

    Mr.

    Calvert,

    and Mr. Drake

    replied that

    Mr.

    Calvert

    was

    able to

    find another

    contractor who had

    a

    piece

    of

    equipment that would

    fit

    through his

    gate to get

    into his back

    yard

    instead

    of going

    through the

    park.

    The

    report

    from Ken

    Siler,

    Recreation Director,

    was

    accepted

    as

    submitted.

    t

    was

    noted that Mr.

    Siler was absent

    as

    he

    was on vacation.

    The

    report from Ken

    Green, Director

    of Golf

    at

    Miami

    Shores

    Golf

    Course,

    was

    accepted as

    submitted.

    Mr. Green noted

    that

    the

    repairs

    to

    the

    irrigation

    system

    have

    been

    made,

    and

    they

    are now

    good

    to

    go. He

    said that the

    contractor spent two days repairing the damage from the

    flood but now

    ANNUAL PARK INSPECTION:

    Mr. Kappers announced that

    it

    was time

    for the

    annual

    park inspection. After

    looking at

    calendars,

    it was decided that the group

    tour

    and

    meeting,

    for the purpose

    of

    reviewing

    the

    parks,

    would

    take place

    on July

    29,

    at 6:00 p.m.

    at the Park

    Office.

    Mr. Kappers then

    divided

    the

    parks

    in the following

    manner:

    all athletic fields twice weekly

    Prepped softball fields for games at Duke Park and North Market St.

    Serviced and repaired equipment s needed

    Painted soccer fields football fields and softball fields as needed

    Performed irrigation system repairs

    Responded to four street tree failures due to wind

    Continued 2015 budget preparations

    Worked with Sr. Citizens Center on grant writing for a new furnace and central air

    conditioning. Grant was received work will commence as soon s parts are in.

    Made several pesticide treatments to the downtown flower baskets for Aphid control

    Began concession stand and shelter roofing project at Duke Park

    Looked at street trees as needed

    Began compiling the 2014 2015 tree removal list. Removals will begin in November and

    continue through winter

    welcomed Gabe Wise to our staff as our new laborer

    Worked with the Street Department to have a sink hole repaired

    on

    the bike path
