Tech Session: Duct Design and LEED This will cover the basics, fundamentals, design and performance considerations, leakage and product choices. Energy savings via good duct design is highlighted along with comfort, environment, health and productivity. The speaker is Mr. Gerard L. Iacouzze who is a Technical Service Engineer-National for McGill AirFlow LLC in Bowie, Maryland. He provides application engineering services to engineers, contractors, building owners, specifications writers and government engineers. During his 24 year career with McGill AirFlow, he has been responsible for sales, training, application engineering and liaison services. He served on the ASHRAE Duct Design Committee TC 5.2, and Central Forced Air Heating and Cooling Systems Committee TC 6.3. Additionally, he served on the ASHRAE Standards Committee and the Standards Project Committee which developed test standards for furnaces and boilers. He has authored and co-authored 12 manuals, standards and duct construction documents. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University; studied computer applications and HVAC equipment. Mr. Iacouzze is a member of ASHRAE and the National Capitol Chapter of Washington, DC

Meeting Program: ASHRAE Standards 90.1 and 189.1 and Hopes for the ASHRAE/USGBC/ICC Agreement ASHRAE 90.1 changed greatly in 2010. Energy savings were around 25% compared to 90.1-2004. ASHRAE 90.1-2010 is the baseline in LEED v4, which greatly increases the difficulty of garnering energy points in LEED v4. The presenter discussed this in detail in a seminar at GreenBuild. This portion of the presentation will focus on what is new in 90.1, and how it affects LEED energy points. 189.1 is ASHRAE’s green building code. The International Green Construction Code (IgCC) accepts 189.1 as an alternate path. States and municipalities are beginning to adopt these green codes as “stretch codes” that incorporate not only the energy efficiency of 90.1, but also the other green principles promoted by LEED. A recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) between ASHRAE, USGBC, and ICC promises to change the green landscape by promoting a unified and coordinated movement toward green codes, with and IgCC/189.1 as the code-mandatory green code and LEED as the preeminent beyond-code voluntary rating system.

Our speaker is Mr. Jeff Boldt, PE, LEED® AP, HBDP. Jeff is a Principal and the Director Engineering at KJWW Engineering, a 500 person firm. He is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in mechanical, fire protection, and acoustical design.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Greetings,

September 11th kicked off the new chapter year with our annual golf outing held at Ironwood Golf Club in Fishers, Indiana. Despite the cool temperatures, it was great show of support. The event is our primary fund raiser for ASHRAE research. The Central Indiana Chapter of ASHRAE is located in Region V which consists of 12 chapters. Region V receives the most research dollars for projects out of all regions in the country. This year, more than $5000 was raised that goes directly to ASHRAE Research. Thank you to all of the participants and also to the 20 sponsors that made it a success. For the 2014-2015 chapter year, we are hoping to provide a good balance of meeting opportunities during the lunch and dinner hours. We are hoping again to bring you some top notch technical sessions, as well as, several great tours around the city. All meeting attendees will receive professional development hours which help to satisfy Indiana’s required continuing education credits. Be sure to check out our new website rolled out this year as we look to include valuable resources in the coming months and You can also register for the monthly meetings on the website. Finally, I would like to ask that you come out and support your local ASHRAE chapter in any way you can. If you or someone you know has never been to an ASHRAE meeting or attended in a very long time, I would like to invite those individuals to come to a meeting free of charge(RSVP requested). If there is anyone who has question or comment regarding ASHRAE that would like to share, please feel free to send me an email at [email protected] or visit our website at www.indyashrae.org. We would like to have a sponsor for each and every meeting this year. Sponsoring companies will be given space in the monthly newsletter for a write up as well as a display setup at the meeting. Please consider being a sponsor this year at one of our meetings. Hope to see all of you October 14th at the Corporate College and Culinary Center on Ivy Tech’s Meridian St campus. Sincerely, Mike East ([email protected])
