Summary

Tower 1 responded to 57 incidents during the month of June. Notable calls included two

building fires, one rope rescue, three gas leaks, and one elevator rescue. Crews have been

conducting surveys of various buildings. These totaled 18 different occupancies for a duration

of 14 hours.

Apparatus/Equipment

The damage to Tower 1 from last month’s accident has not been repaired yet. We are waiting

on the repair vendor to get the required parts.

Fire Stations/Facilities

The new dishwasher is back in service. It was repaired one more time by the vendor. The

screens and blinds have been installed on the new windows, however there are some quality

issues with their installation. Work continues on the monument at HQ. Much of the concrete

and stone work has been completed.

Monthly Report

June 2021

Summary

Engine -1 responded to 96 calls in the past month. These included 2 structure fires, 2 cooking

fire, 6 unauthorized or brush fires, 12 MVA’s including general scene safety to extrication, 9

power lines down/ electrical problems, 3 gas leak investigations and 4 assisting PD / EMS. Also

included this past month was 1 ring removal, 1 elevator rescue and 1 low angle rope rescue.

Personnel

Probationary FF Richardson and Miller are currently assigned to Engine 1

Fire Stations/Facilities

HQ renovation/ upgrade is now in the 13th month. Numerous punch list items remain. No

time frame has been given for project completion.

The memorial monument project hard scape is almost complete.

Engine Company 2

Monthly ReportJune, 2021

Summary

Station 2 personnel completed 8 area surveys in the month of June which was down because

of promotional testing. Mulch was delivered to all the firehouses and it makes the grounds

look neater by keeping the weeds down. There is quite a bit of foot traffic and it always feels

good when we receive compliments on the landscaping. Station 2 personnel responded to 25

calls for service in the month of June.

Personnel

FF Larry Rossi was at Station 2 for three sets to allow for rotational orientation.

Apparatus/Equipment

The boat was taken to be used for the Cedar Lake fireworks the last week of June. After

being repaired for a hydraulic leak found last month, the Hurst tool was returned and is back in

service. The remaining SCBA that was out of service has also been returned. The IPad from

Engine 2 was updated but the new operating system is not compatible with the NexResponder

software. We have contacted IT on multiple occasions but are still waiting for a response on

how to remedy the problem. Tower 2 IPad is being used in the interim.

Fire Stations/Facilities

A representative was brought to all the city buildings by public works to perform boiler

inspections. There were no issues found with the boilers at Station 2. Metro systems was on

site to work on the keyless entry system.

Miscellaneous

We receive an email stating the budget for fiscal year 21-22 has approved funds for the

replacement of the Matthews street ramp and an air condition system to replace the inefficient

window units now in use. No word yet on a start time for either project.

Engine 3

June

Monthly Report

2021

Summary

The members at station 3 responded to 51 calls for service this month. Notable

calls were, Sheridan Woods there was a boiler Issue that caused an evacuation of

a unit and with the exceptionally high heat we saw an uptick in brush fires and

wires down.

Personnel

New employees continue to rotate through. We continue to train these members

on equipment and department procedures.

Apparatus/Equipment

A new floor jack and Sawzall were placed in service. The new Sawzall mirrors the

one already in service on Tower 1. Ageing Engine 3 continues to have mechanical

issues. The A/C system is leaking into the cab area and the KNOX box key holder

needs to be replaced. Air pack E3-02 is out for repairs.

Fire Stations/Facilities

Bids to upgrade the A/C system are underway. A new bathroom faucet was

installed by building maintenance. The Plymo Vent system was repaired. A broken

motor cause this system to be down for a period of time.

Engine 4

Monthly ReportJune 2021

Summary

Engine 4 responded to 75 calls for service during June. This is an uptick from last month. Engine4 served as a collection point for the firefighting foam that needed to be taken out of serves, due to its environmental impact. This ended up bring in the press to cover the story.

Apparatus/Equipment

The hose testing was completed this month, we fared well with only a few failures. Engine 6 was in use at Engine 1 for several days this month.

Fire Stations/Facilities

The mulch was spread, the grass and landscape beds are looking great this season thanks to the efforts of many of my firefighters. I am very lucky to have so many people down here at Engine 4 who take such pride in the Fire House.

Miscellaneous

Engine 4 has hosted and continues to host the Fire Officer Development classes delivered by the CT fire Academy. We also hosted CERT team training class this month.

Monthly Report

June 2021

Summary

Engine Company 5 responded to 44 calls for service for the month of June. Formal surveys were

conducted this month in commercial properties and apartment complexes. Also several exterior

walk thru were completed. Street familiarization and target areas of our district were also

completed.

Personnel

Station 5 has one vacancy on the “A” shift all other spots are filled. Firefighter Cianci has been

assigned here on “B” shift this month as part of his cross training.

Apparatus/Equipment

As we close out the month Engine 5 is out of service for a broken air conditioner and air horn,

Engine 7 is being used.

Fire Stations/Facilities

All equipment on the house and grounds is in working order. An air conditioner tech has been

here several times this month to try and determine the cause of the air conditioners struggle to

keep the building cool and condensation free.

Engine 3- Repair gated intake bleeder fitting- E3-01: Relief valve, X3 remote gauge replaced

Engine 5- W5A: Replace collar mic- EGR crossover tube for turbocharger replaced by Cummins- Replace E-Z Wedge door tool

Tower 1- Temporarily repair L/R section of body to allow the compartment to be used and the vehicle to be put back in service after accident. The insurance has inspected the damage, and we have been cut a check for the damage that is visible. I am currently waiting on thedealer to get back to me with a price quote. - Replace air tank drain that was snapped off.

Miscellaneous- SCBA bottle # 92: O-Ring replaced and bottle hydro’d- Repair carb on Station 3’s Honda trash pump- Radio’s on Tower 1 and Fire 1 were reprogrammed due to a I.D. issue- Another hand full of items were donated to the Fire Museum. These are all items that had been either updated to fit our needs, or replaced due to failure. Myself along with the 4th Platoon Tower crew helped the Museum by placing a wooden ladder up into the raftersection for display. This ladder was donated by the Barnes’s Family.- Fire 2: Oil pan replaced under warranty. 3K Service- Several days in total were spent handling year end paperwork, budget paperwork, etc- Foam take back program at Station 4 on June 21st.- Fire 5: 3 K service- F/F Miller: new structural boots- Boat was prepped and made ready for the O.T. crews for the Cedar lake FireworksW1B: Repair collar mic

MONTHLY TRAINING REPORT

June 2021

Bristol Fire Department Fire Service Instructor 1 certification class which began on 5/17 concluded this month on June 15th with 14 Bristol Fire personnel able to be certified to NFPA standard 1041.Additionally this month, the Bristol Fire Department hosted another 2019 assistance to firefighters grant class for Fire Officer 2 certification. This certification class will enabled 13 Bristol Fire department personnel along with 5 personnel from New Britain Fire department to be certified to the Fire Officer 2 level. This class will run from 6/17 through 7/24 on Tuesday and Thursday at Bristol Training facility. This managing level fire officer class will cover effective management for multi-company operations, officer development, and resource management along with various other skills for second and third tier fire officers. This assistance to firefighters grant class is being delivered by Connecticut Fire academy and is thefinal class in the officer development program. Bristol Fire department continues its cooperation with mutual aid partner Southington Fire department and Bristol CERT team in the month of June. Southington Fire was able train on ground ladders and aerial apparatus operations June 21st and 28th utilizing the live burn and training facility. I delivered training on fire behavior and operations to Bristol CERT on 6/9. Bristol CERT additionally was trained on CPR, AED and choking emergencies on 6/12 at the Bristol Fire classroom. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) refresher training continued this month. This class consists of a practice as you learn DVD in which all the skills for performing proper high quality CPR are covered. The individual skills are compressions, pocket mask use, patient assessment, one rescuer CPR, two rescuer CPR, bag valve mask use, AED usage, team dynamics and special considerations for adult, child and infant patients. Along with those topics rescue breathing and choking for responsive and unresponsive patients is covered. Individual and two rescuer skills are evaluated for all personnel. Additionally all personnel must complete a written evaluation and earn a minimum passing score of eighty-four to be recertified in CPR.Recruit FF’s. C. Richardson and J. Miller successfully graduated the Connecticut Fire Academy recruit class 66. Both firefighters began their professional careers with extra duty shifts riding on Engine 1 for department orientation. I responded to 5 incidents as safety officer during the month of June. I additionally completed Basis lifesupport instructor recertification training at Bristol Hospital on 6/3.
