District Staff Recommendations
• Redesign status recommended at the following schools:
– Valverde – Harrington – Schmitt – Goldrick
• Phase in/Phase out at Henry Middle School:
– Phase out Henry’s current program one grade at a time, beginning in 2016-17.
– Approve a new program to be phased in one year at a time beginning in 2016-17.

Call for New Quality Schools and Leader Hiring
• Call for New Quality Schools- December 2014
– The December CNQS requested quality elementary turnaround schools for the Near Northeast and Southwest; however, no providers submitted applications.
– Therefore, new leaders have been hired for the following: • Goldrick • Harrington • Schmitt
• Call for New Quality Schools Supplement – April 2015 • Henry Middle School Phase In program will be included in the
April CNQS supplement; • DPS has hired a principal to create an application for a
district-run school for consideration in the CNQS along with other school applicants.

• Learning from Promising Practices
– School Visits to high performing local and national schools serving a similar demographic
• Learning in a Cohort
– Releasing a competitive bid to select a partner who will provide cohort services to turnaround leaders focused on developing turnaround leader competencies
• Learning from Past Practice
– Studying previous turnaround successes, failures, and focusing on continuous improvement for support services

Engagement Activity
Description and Purpose
Meet & Greets Informal conversations to build relationships.
Culture Equity and Leadership Team (CELT) trainings
Trainings for staff in managing change and grief, and also skills-based trainings (e.g. facilitation) to support the creation of positive school culture during the transition and year zero and beyond.
Family and Community Engagement (FACE) trainings
Parenting Partners, Parent Leadership Training Program, LEAP Training, and The Parent Engagement Pipeline—all designed to help parents be academic partners with their student(s).
School visioning exercises
Formal discussions designed to build collective school vision (will be both small-group 1-3 hours sessions as well as large-group and full day).
Grow/support school committees
Collaborative School Committee, Parent Teacher Association/Organization, ELA-PAC/DAC to create forums for effective parent leadership and engagement.
Parent Teacher Leadership Team
A group of parent/guardian and staff representatives that work to engage, educate and empower families. This is a large group with representation from each grade level and classroom.
