  • Maserati Ghibli and Ghibli S

Structure : The Ghibli is predominantly of steel con-struction, with a range of high-strength and ultra-high-strength material and with con-siderable aluminium inclusion to achieve a near 50:50 weight distribution. This includes aluminium castings in the front structure for rigidity and to support multiple crash force load paths, together with a cross-brace for rigidity, with steel support members. The Ghibli sits on a reduced Quattroporte platform, with a 2998mm wheelbase (173mm less than the Quattroporte), with a vehicle kerb weight of 1810kg.

The A and B post reinforcements and the sill-reinforcement are of hot-formed UHSS.All four doors, boot lid and the bonnet are of aluminium, as are the majority of the suspension components including the hub carriers and wishbones. The front and rear bumper beams are of extruded aluminium. The instrument panel beam has been pro-duced from magnesium to further reduce front end weight.

Technology : All models feature 7 SRS airbags: 2-stage airbags for the driver and front seat passenger, front seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and a knee-airbag for the driver. The front seats also have active head-restraints and the front seat safety belts have pyrotechnic pre-tensioners.

Interior technology includes an 8.4 touch screen control panel and a WiFi WLAN hotspot (optional with SIM card activation). The Ghibli has an Active Speed Limiter function that allows the driver to select and set a maximum speed for the vehicle; this can be overridden and disengaged by kick-down of the accelerator.

I.C.E (Increased Control and Efficiency) is effectively an Economy mode that modifies gear selection and throttle input, whilst cancelling the turbo over-boost; all for greater fuel economy and reduced emissions.

The Ghibli S has larger brake discs and different brake callipers than the other two models. All models have Electronic Parking Brake.

The Ghibli features LED and Xenon HID headlight functions, with an Automatic (adaptive) Forward Lighting system (an option on Ghibli and Ghibli diesel). AFL uses a screen mounted camera to identify and react to oncoming traffic by actively adjusting the headlamp HID beam. The lamp unit also contains LED daytime run lights and LED side position lights, which can be activated into different beam modes for urban or motorway driving, and different beam patterns for driving on the opposite side of the road in other countries.

Tail lamps are LED too, providing better visibility and faster brake-lamp response.

Trim levels : All models have rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Ghibli and Ghibli diesel: 18 alloy wheels as standard, together with leather interior trim and 6-way electric front seats.

    Ghibli S: 18 alloy wheels as standard, but with different tyre profiles front to rear;18 235/50 front 275/45 rear19 245/45 front 275/40 rear20 245/40 front 285/35 rear21 245/35 front 285/390 rear

The front seats are 8-way adjustable.

Options : There are 3 different seat hide colours: Sabbia Nero, and Cuoio, with Nero and Sabbia being the choices for carpet colours too. The interior can be finished with Carbon Fibre effect, Radica or Ebony wood.

Sport Suspension (optional) lowers the ride height by 10mm and uses Koni damper struts with higher rate steel springs.

The side windows can be specified with double laminated acoustic glass to reduce the noise intrusion into the cabin (the front windscreen is double laminated as standard). Privacy glass for the rear doors and rear screen can be specified too.

19, 20 and 21 (forged) alloy wheels are available as options.

Ghibli S: 3000cc V6, parallel twin turbo-charged, 410bhp and 550Nm of torque. The Ghibli S requires two intercoolers, fitted on each side of the main radiator.

Both engines are built at the Ferrari facility at Maranello.

    Ghibli diesel: 2987cc V6, single-turbo diesel, 275bhp and 600Nm of torque, with stop/start technology.
