• Video surveillance systems (about 20 municipalities);
• Intercompany back-hauling structures. In particular we have a partnership with a national Service Provider to connect 400 bank remote offices in Northern Italy;
• Wireless network, design and make up, for Internet distribution in digital divide areas. We have done coverage for about 100 municipalities in Northern Italy with an associated population of about 100.000 inhabitants.
BMS IMPIANTI STARTED WORKING AT WIRELESS APPLICATIONS IN 2003. HIPERLAN PLATFORM WAS INTRODUCED IN 2004 ADOPTING
ALVARION BreezeACCESS and BreezeNET B SOLUTIONS.

ECOSYSTEM is a medium size public company in the area of Lecco (Northern Italy - Lombardia Region) managing the services for:
• Drinking water distribution;
• Sewage collection;
• Sewage treatment;
The company is held by 10 municipalities covering an area of:
• 6.000 km²;
• 50.000 inhabitants;
• 241 km pipe network;
• 11 wells;
• 7 tanks;
• 5 pumping stations;
• 2 sewage treatment plants;
• distribution and treatment capacity of about 5.500.000 m³.

THE ECOSYSTEM OPPORTUNITY
The main plants are monitored through a telecontrol system installed in the ’80s with the following actual problems:
• Private communication protocols, not IP based;
• Old communication lines (leased analog lines, working at about 200 bps);
• High line leasing costs. An yearly rate of about 12.000 €;
• Maintenance problems for the TLC operator;
• Limited scalability with a consequent partial telecontrol of plants.

THE ECOSYSTEM PROJECT
The two companies teamed to obtain financial public support and they submitted a project in order to:
Substitute the TLC copper based lines with an efficient Hiperlan network;Update the TLC Remote Terminal Units to make them IP compatible; Implement an area coverage to allow services also for citizens, other local
companies and public authorities;Keeping the maintenance costs for Ecosystem unchanged.
The intervention became possible thanks to:
• Public funds released by the Lombardia Region, devoted to sustain projects in favour of small-medium companies going for innovative lines of business compatible with public interest;
• Join Venture between BMS IMPIANTI and ECOSYSTEM, representing the private and the public roles.
