L to R: Alderman Segelhorst, Bobbie Harmon, Cynthia Harmon, Robert Harmon

Bobbie HarmonWins Award of Merit

Bobby Harmon recently received the Award of Merit from TN Chapter of American Public Works Association. The Award of Merit is a state-wide award given annually at the TCAPWA Conference. The Award of Merit recognizes the dedicatedservice of the public works personnel at the operations level who performresponsibilities in an exceptionally efficient and courteous manner.

Harmon, who has been employed by the city for nearly 39 years, is a foreman who overseessewer maintenance. The city consistently receive notes, letters, phone calls, and emails about the exemplary workcompleted by Harmon and his crews. Even more impressive is the fact that these customers are usually experiencing one of the worst issues anyone could face in their house or on their property, sewer backup. The fact that these customers take time out of their day to showappreciation provesthe dedication that he has, and the example he has set for those who work alongside him.

Congrats Bobby!

Kingsport Fire Dept#GatlinburgStrong

On November 28, our friends and neighbors in Gatlinburg, TN sent out the call for help containing a wildfire that had spread throughout their community. Kingsport is blessed with a great group of firefighters who were willing to answer that call.

The first call went out at 7:17 p.m. on Monday evening and only 13 minutes later at 7:30 p.m, a team of five firefighters and an engine truck were already in place and heading to help. A new crew of five or 6 firefighters was sent every night for the next four nights. They worked 24-30 hours before a crew arrived to relieve them. All Kingsport firefighters returned home by December 3rd.

The Kingsport Fire Dept. had a total of 825 man hours assisting. They worked search/rescue efforts, fought fires, and assisted with clean-up operations.

Were very proud to have such an altruistic and selfless fire department. Thank you Kingsport Fire Department!

Scott BoydScott Boyd serves as the District Coordinator for Mutual Aid covering 8 counties and includes all fire departments and rescue squads. When Gatlinburg sent the call for help in battling a wild fire in their community, he immediately took action. He coordinated and sent crews/vehicles to assist by working closely with TEMA (TN Emergency Management Agency).

He worked tirelessly to coordinate deploying firefighters and apparatus going to Gatlinburg from Station 1. He fielded over 300 calls to set up the teams for deployment and handled over 1,000 calls weekly. He left for Gatlinburg to help on Thursday December 1st and returned late on December 2nd.

Thank you Scott for your dedication and hard work!

Kingsport Jaycees Bring New Life to Nativity Scene

The Kingsport Jaycees isthe civic group responsible for putting the nativity scene up and taking it down since 1966, as well as maintaining its upkeep. Last year, the group launched a full-scale refurbishing project to fix and enhance the current scene characters to their original glory.

Through community members and the Jaycee partners, the project was a huge success. Thank you Debbie Waggoner and team. Take a drive through Church Circle and check out their amazing work!
