Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Festive 2014

We always love seeing old favorites like Neetu Lulla, Krishna Mehta and Anita Dongre at Lakme Fashion Week, but there’s something exciting about checking out the gutsy, avant garde state-ments coming from the fash-ion show’s up-and-coming designers. Here’s a glimpse from three of the Gen Next designers who made a major statement at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

Astha Sethi and Sidhartha Arora

Asa Kazingmei

Asa Kazingmei used the Lakme runway to give us his take on matador chic. With bold Spanish colors, tailored silhouettes and architectural elements to add the volume factor, these looks were definitely attention grabbing. Which look from this cross-cultural collection would you wear, if any?

Aniket Satam

Aniket Satam’s collection was filled with celestial-inspired dresses and sepa-rates that blended together creamy whites, violets, metallic midnight blues and a gold graphic print

Get The Look: Kangana Ranaut’s style

For us, Himachal-girl Kangana Ranaut is Bol-lywood’s true resident fashionista. We agree that she gets lost in a sea of Sonams and Deepikas sometimes, but there’s no arguing that this 26-year-old knows style. And if you’re still not convinced, consider this; she is one of the few ac-tresses who dresses her-self for her appearances, as opposed to slipping into what a stylist hands her. Refreshing and im-pressive, isn’t it?

What we love most about her style is how she is constantly experi-menting with her looks; refusing to be put in a straitjacket. One day you’ll see her sitting front row at Burberry while another time she will be channeling a fierce Lady Gaga-esque look with the same ef-fortless élan. She can sport a crop top and midi skirt with as much ease as a Sabyasachi stunner and therein lies her true sartorial victory. She is a style chameleon and that’s no act. So here’s your guide to making this it-girl’s style your own!

The one complaint we have with this curly -haired beauty is that we don’t often get to see her in Indian cloth-ing. That’s changing, though, as she sets out to promote her new movie, Queen. Her spate of appearances in salwars and anarkalis, most often with a dash of pink, have us pacified (for now atleast)! Turn to our Ivory Salwar with Chikan Work for a similar feminine look.

Short skater num-bers teamed with Dior bags are anoth-er favorite with this actress. It wouldn’t be a far stretch to say that this is Ranaut’s go-to outfit. And we don’t blame her — skater silhouettes do accentuate the waistline to create a flattering illusion. Our Light Olive

Baby Doll Salwar by Kavita Bhartia is an easy way to incorporate this look into your traditional repertoire.

A look that’s become her trademark is the old Hollywood vintage en-sembles she often puts together — complete with the red lips, soft curls (or an updo) and pearls. Some may argue that the look’s repetitiveness has become yawn-inducing, but we feel she does justice to it every sin-gle time! For an outfit that is remi-niscent of this old-world charm, turn to our White Satin and Net Suit with Pearl Embroidery.

How can a string of Spring appear-ances be complete without a smatter-ing of pastels, right? While Ranaut is no slave to fashion trends, she defi-nitely knows which ones are worthy of trying on. If you too, are looking for a dose of blush tones, look no fur-ther than Luxemi’s Shimmer Geor-gette “Angel” Lehenga Saree.
