STEPHEN MINISTRY – Spring is here! The weather is great, flowers are in bloom, barbeque grills are out, vacations are being planned…Sounds wonderful, right? Spring IS a very special season when God awakens the world with new growth and new possibilities.

But what if you are not feeling the joy and enthusiasm like other people? What if you don’t have the energy or desire to get out and get busy? What if your life is not going as you had planned? You are NOT alone. There are trained lay caregivers right here at Bluffton United Methodist Church ready to meet with you and offer confidential Christian love and support and help you during these difficult times.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this type of Christian caregiving, please contact our Stephen Minister leaders, Mary Ellen Parks at 843.368.1852 or Sara Jenkins at 843.705.2172. Sometimes reaching out to someone can make a huge difference in your life.

MIRACLE JARS – Your Miracle Jar donations in May are going to The Boys & Girls Club of the Lowcountry. This is a safe and fun place for children to interact with friends, classmates and staff while they enjoy a wide variety of educational, recreational, cultural and social activities. The Club's programs

focus on five core areas: Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts and Sports/Fitness & Recreation. They provide the support and programs that put all members on track to academic success, to demonstrate good character and citizenship, and to live a healthy lifestyle. http://www.bgclowcountry.org

Carrefour Friends — I had talked and reminisced with him in his apartment at the care facility for almost an hour. Just before I left, I asked if he had any advice for other people about how they should live their lives. “Yes,” he said. “Put all your faith in Jesus Christ and everything will work out all right,

whether you think so or not.” This wonderful man had the peace of God flowing throughout his being at this difficult

time in his life. Not everyone does. The prospect of aging without a spouse or family member at your side, without friends to help you laugh and recall good times and support you in difficult times – these things can cause loneliness and a sense of isolation in the elderly. And yet that is exactly what a growing number of seniors in care facilities right here in Bluffton face.

Carrefour Friends volunteers develop warm and compassionate friendships with lonely elderly residents living in care facilities in our community. If you are interested in becoming a friend for someone who really needs one, please contact Jackie Tuohig at 913.748.5929 or email us at [email protected].

Carrefour Friends……care for friends.

ALTAR FLOWERS – Thank you to those who have added to the beauty of our sanctuary by generously donating the altar flowers. You are encouraged to take your flowers home. Containers for that purpose are located under the pulpit and in the closet in the education wing across from the Youth Room.

Christian sympathy and prayers of the pastor and congregation are extended to Ruth Fleming and family on the death of her husband, Rev. Ralph Fleming, May 20, 2018. Address for Ruth: 2600 Croasdaile Farm, Apt A149, Durham NC 27705-1305.

Also to Pat Simmons and Allyn Perdue on the death of Pat’s mother, Emily Simmons, May 17, 2018.

Since their 2017 visit, the girls and their parents have relocated from Hilton Head to Hampton, Virginia where their musical growth continues to thrive.

Kearston, age 13, began playing the violin at age three. Currently she has monthly lessons with a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music (NY) in preparation for her Juilliard School (NYC) pre-college audition next spring. Kearston received 1st Place at the 2018 Music Teacher Association Concerto Competition.

This summer Kearston will attend the Center Stage Strings Music Camp at the University of Michigan on a full merit scholarship. Later in the summer, she will attend the Heifetz Music Program for the Exceptionally Gifted (Staunton, VA) also on a full merit scholarship.

Recently she performed the "Theme from Schindler's List" with both the Lowcountry Wind Symphony and with the York River Chamber Players.

Kendall, age 11, began playing the cello at age two and currently studies monthly with a Juilliard School faculty member in preparation for her Juilliard School pre-college audition next spring. She competed at the Virginia state level May 18th.

This summer Kendall will attend the Sphinx Performance Academy at the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia, PA) on a full merit scholarship. Later in the summer she will also attend the Heifetz Music Program for the Exceptionally Gifted on a full merit scholarship.

Both girls are continuing to excel academically and speak French, Spanish, and are also learning Latin. Their accomplishments are attributed to the love and support of their parents, Tanika and Glenn Gonzales.

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE GIDEONS – Your generous offering of $1,156.00 will enable distribution of 856 Pocket Testaments or 231 Hotel/Motel Bibles to “provide God’s Word to a lost world”.

INTRODUCTION OF DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT Rev. Joey McDonald

DECLARATION OF PURPOSE Rev. Thomas Pearson, Jr.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, this is a day of rejoicing. We have come together to dedicate this parsonage for Bluffton United Methodist Church. As we gather in love, let us give thanks for the pastors and their families who will reside here. We praise God for the gifts of their service to His work as they minister to this congregation. As we dedicate this building, let us give ourselves anew to the service of God: our minds, that they may be renewed after the image of Christ; our bodies, that they may be fit temples for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit;

and our labors, that they may be according to God’s will and glorify God’s name and serve God’s eternal purposes.

INVOCATION Rev. Thomas Pearson, Jr. All glory be to You, O Lord: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Graciously pour out Your blessing upon us as we dedicate this parsonage to Your service and for the use of Your pastors and their families. Illuminate it with Your presence, defend it and those who shall inhabit it from evil. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. REMARKS Rev. Thomas Pearson, Jr. PRAYER OF DEDICATION Rev. Thomas Pearson, Jr. Almighty God, Your ears are always open to the prayers of Your people, and we rejoice that You are present with us now in this service. Graciously accept this parsonage which we offer to You and to Your service. Pour our Your blessing upon it and upon Your servants Who shall dwell within its walls. Now, Oh Lord, we dedicate this parsonage to You and to Your service as a dwelling place for the pastors of this congregation. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
