"Never Give The Devil A Ride" Bluegrass

This is the establishing shot of the music video here we can see that the conventions of props have been used to add to the characterisation of the song. An acoustic guitar is usually associated with this genre as bluegrass

music doesn’t usually have much of a technical element to it but is more about the sound. The title of the song is not an unusual code to have in a music video of most genres but here they have put the artists, writer of the song and the music company that produced it, this is very unusual for a music video but

something that I may consider for my music video as it gives more of an insight to the music especially if they are not very well known.

Here the stock characters of the band costume represent the stereotypical musician of the genre- the shirts caps and beards are all associated with the “cowboy” stereotype of American males. This part and most of the video also conforms to the performance documentary of Joe Goes genres for a music video

The composition of these shots mean that the main member of the band is always in central shot which shows that he is the main vocals of the band. Natural lighting had been used but it has obviously been filmed in the summer time to enhance the natural environment. Andrew Goodwin's theory of there is a demand on the part of the record company for lots of close-ups of the artists can be applied.

Here they have used a long shot of the setting to show the prop that is the red truck, this shows a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals (Joe Gow) hence the title off the song ‘Never give a devil a ride’. It also shows that the setting is an abandoned garage which creates an element of mystery to the song and that spending lots of money on things (i.e.. The setting of your video ) is not very important.

Here is a mid shot they have to anti performance pieces which has been discussed by Joe Gow which is parts of the video that do not contain performance of the song. This ads a nice effect that makes the video more

relatable to the audience and creates a homely affect that is something that I am considering doing for my video. This happens through out the video and creates narrative events throughout.

Here there has been editing to make the screen split this is an interesting way to use transitions between scenes and can also be seen as an enhanced performance element to this video which is demonstrated by Joe Gow.

Continuous eye level shots also creates intimacy between the audience and the artists. Continuous shots of the band helps to develop a star iconography.
