Terence Koo is an Australian jazz pianist, composer,lecturer, teacher and recording artist. Terence holds aMaster of Arts (Music), a Bachelor of Music (First Class
Honours), the University medal, an A.Mus.A., and a numberof University scholarships & prizes. In 2017 Terence wasawarded the University of Newcastle Faculty of Education
and Arts Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence andContribution to Student Learning.
While Classical teaching methods have many benefits,
Terence believes jazz education provides a more thoroughunderstanding of the musical language.
This professional development opportunity comprises two
sessions: choose one or come to both.
Session One: “An Introduction” This session willcover Pedagogy, similarities & differencesbetween classical & jazz, an overview of teaching topics, a
workshop, & resources recommendations.
Session Two: “Getting Started” This session looks at improvisation, harmony, aural work,
and further investigates pedagogy and resources.
