QUENTIN RICHARDSON - MAKING “MIRACLES” IN THE CITY

Despite his early success as a bas-ketball phenom for Whitney Young High School and DePaul University to his turn as a veteran NBA superstar, Chicago native Quentin Richardson has never forgotten the importance of giving back. Each year, during the Thanksgiving holiday season, Rich-ardson, 32, donates food to needy families in struggling communities in Chicago and throughout the country. On Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 12:00 noon, he joined local church volunteers at the Vivian L. Brown Community Center in the Washington

Park community to distribute nearly 400 food baskets to local residents. First Tabernacle Community Church is where members of his family worship and his brother-in-law is an Elder.CLICK HERE to read the entire story.

JACK DEAN - DEPAUL HOOPS HERO UNCOVERED

Jack Dean came to DePaul to play basketball at age 17 in 1943-44 because he wasn’t old enough to enlist in the military. Instead of enlisting, he signed up for duty with the Blue Demons and Ray Meyer. The St.

Ignatius prep came in well-prepared and made an immediate impact. He would finish the 1943-44 season as DePaul’s third-leading scorer behind All-Americans Mikan and Dick Triptow.“He was a good player and a great-looking guy,” said teammate Dick Triptow. “He really added a lot to our team.”“I owe playing at DePaul to Jack,” said Blue Demon Hall of Famer Eu-gene Stump. “I was sitting on the South Side waiting to get old enough to enlist when Jack told me I should go up with him for some basketball at DePaul one afternoon. We went, and a couple of weeks later, Coach Ray Meyer offered us both scholarships to play for the Blue Demons. For me, that really changed everything.”Dean was the leading scorer in DePaul’s semifinal victory over Okla-homa A&M in Madison Square Garden. With Mikan on the bench in foul trouble, the freshman stood tall and knocked down several shots in the Blue Demons’ come-from-behind victory.CLICK HERE to read the entire story.

ERIC WALLACE FEATURED IN AUSTRALIAN NEWS

During the latest AFL draft combine, three American athletes stood out. Eric Wallace, Yannick Crowder and Benjamin Shearry all have basketball back-grounds. With a season or two of hard work, any one of these athletes has the potential to thrill

the crowds just like Buddy and help boost any club’s publicity, crowds and merchandising. If I had to pick one, it would be Eric Wallace. He won the best inter-national performer at the combine and has fallen in love with Aussie Rules. Keep in mind the first game of AFL he saw was the 2012 grand final.Eric loved his time in Australia and is bursting at the seams to get back here and give Aussie rules a crack. Eric is already an amazing athlete, that’s a tick. But his biggest tick is his desire to play.Take note GWS, this one doesn’t require a bag of money to stoke his passion. Every club can have three international rookies (No Irishmen) listed on their Category B list, in addition to their primary rookie list, which allows six normal rookies.

Eric Wallace is sitting by his phone, give him a call and let’s give AFL its second rookie-listed American athlete for 2013.CLICK HERE to read the entire story.

What does being a DePaul Letterwinner mean to you?It means a lot. DePaul is like a family. If it wasn’t for my time at DePaul my life today would be completely different.

Why did you choose DePaul?I chose DePaul because of the location and the Big East. But also because of the high standard of education that I knew I would receive at DePaul.

What was your favorite memory while at DePaul? My favourite memory while at DePaul would have to be taking third at the Big East Champion-ships during my sophomore year. I wouldn’t have reached that level if it wasn’t for Coach Cray-craft. He taught me more than just about athletics. He is one of those guys that everyone wants to be friends with and I am incredibly lucky to say I got to work with him.

What did receiving a scholarship from DePaul mean to you?Receiving a scholarship meant everything to me.

What was your funniest memory at DePaul?I have a lot of funny memories while at DePaul. The funniest probably isn’t suitable for here but I believe there are a few photos of it still lurking around.

Brief Summary of your life from graduation till now:Since graduation I have moved to London where I am studying towards an MS.c in Comparative Politics (conflict studies) at the London School of Economics (LSE). I am still running competi-tively while also pursuing a dream of serving in the British Army Reserves.

Is there a recent highlight that you would like to share with Alumni and friends of DePaul Athletics?Unfortunately my life has been rather boring since gradu-ation...Hopefully within the next year I will have something exciting to say.

What advice would you give to a current or future student-athlete?Don’t waste this amazing opportunity that you have! I genuinely believe that DePaul is the best university in the nation to be a student at. Give it everything and you will

leave with not only a great degree but also a great future.

Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. DE PAUL ON-LINE AUCTION RANKS IN THE TOP 10

In February, 2012, DePaul Athletic Development kicked-off an on-line auction to support scholarship donations. The auction is a partnership between DePaul Athletics and its website provider: cbssports.com. After finishing last year ranked No. 24 in sales in less than half of a year of operations, the on-line auction site ranks No. 9 in items sold in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012-13. Each week seven-to-eight new “Blue Demon Treasures” are posted for the auction. In all, more than $10,000 has been distributed to DePaul Athletics Scholarship funds. Bid on a “Blue Demon Treasure” collection now. CLICK HERE to start bidding. In Year Two (Week 9) of BIDS On-Line Auctions we once again raised money, which benefited our scholarship funds. B.I.D.S. stands for Blue Demon Authentic On-line Auctions In Support of DePaul Athletics Scholarships. The auction

site is a partnership between DePaul University Athletics and its website provider cbssports.com. Year Two (Week 10) features some recent game-worn items, including men’s basketball game-worn jersey by Michael Bizoukas, and men’s basketball game-worn warm-up top. To participate in B.I.D.S., bidders will have to register prior to submitting bids. All proceeds from the on-line auctions will benefit DePaul athletic scholarships. As a special incentive for bidders, all winning bidders of more than $100 will receive a complimentary Ray Meyer commemorative coin, which was minted in 2006-07 to memorialize the DePaul legend and to support the scholarship in his name.

BIDS ITEM OF THE DAYBid now on authentic game-worn men’s basketball jersey worn by Michael Bizoukas. Mike Bizoukas, a fan favorite, played for the Blue Demons from 2007-2011. During his time at DePaul, Bizoukas totaled 58 career games, and started 13 times. He played just five games during 2007-08 season and was granted medical hardship, contracted mononucleosis prior to the season and during the season.

MANY DREAMS. ONE MISSION. - THE CAMPAIGN FOR DEPAUL UNIVERSITYThe Many Dreams, One Mission Campaign for DePaul University is an historic initiative undertaken in support of one of America’s great universities. It will ensure that DePaul continues to deliver on our founding promise: an excellent education for any talented student who seeks it.

The Campaign supports dreams. Students come to DePaul from across the country and around the world. Their dreams are manycand varied, individual to each, as our students come from all stations in life. Many are the first in their family to attend college.

The realization of their dreams gives rise to new dreams and strong communities. The Campaign sup-ports DePaul’s mission, a mission which blends opportunity and excellence, inquiry and discovery, ser-vice to the individual and benefit to the larger community. It is manifested in the work that goes on here every day, in libraries, classrooms, laboratories, practice rooms and on the stage in hours of solitude and moments of connection
