The Blu Homes Story
Blu Homes started out as a two-year research study
with graduate students at MIT and RISD on how to
use technology to revolutionize the way we build
green homes. I tested this on my own ecologically
protected property with our first homes, which were
designed online in 3-D and precision built with steel,
installed in one inspiring day and each finished in a
week. Since then Blu has been building beautiful,
green homes for families across North America. Our
goal is to make it easier and more fun for our clients
to design and build beautiful, spacious, light filled
homes that bring the outside in.

A team of leading architects has combined warm
eco-friendly materials, clean and spacious lines, high
ceilings, and thoughtful storage systems to create
delightful, sun-drenched indoor environments that
connect seamlessly with the outdoors.
At Blu, we are committed to reducing stress and risk
for our customers by simplifying and streamlining
the home-building process. We use sophisticated
3-D technology to engineer, build, and finish your
home on site —all within 7-9 months and at a fixed
and transparent price.

Blu’s Steel Framing
Blu’s proprietary steel framing technology was
developed out of research at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and Rhode Island School of
Design to provide buildings of incredible strength,
quality and durability for high performance in
extreme weather conditions, including hurricane-
level wind zones and extreme snow loads, high
seismic zones, and challenging soil and marine
moisture environments.
In addition, Blu’s steel framing technology allows for
homes that are far more spacious than traditional
stick-built or prefab homes. Our homes fold onto
a standard truck for shipping, and then unfold to
reveal living spaces up to 25’ wide and 16’ high, with
beautiful glass windows that bring natural daylight
into our homes.

Blu Building Process
Built in Blu’s factory by our highly skilled craftsman,
Blu homes are beautiful, healthy, and green—and
extremely well constructed. Factory construction in
6-8 weeks enables a much greener building process
protected from the elements and free of mold-causing
moisture and debris, and is much less stressful for you
and your neighbors! In addition, it means rigorous
research and selection of green building materials
that are healthier for your family and for the earth.
Moreover, computer driven and automated factory
construction techniques assure quality construction
of the highest order. After rigorous quality assurance
evaluations at our factory, and expert input from
third party engineers, our homes are inspected in
the factory by government certified evaluators. Only
then will Blu ship a home to a customer’s building site.
Finally, a team of trained Blu professionals travels to
each customer’s site, taking final responsibility for
the quality of each Blu home.

The iconic design of the Blu | Breezehouse® offers an
elegant and harmonious connection between indoor
and outdoor living. The Breezehouse is centered around
its beautiful signature Breezespace™, a glass-enclosed
living area situated under a distinctive “butterfly” roof.
Dramatic sliding glass doors or NanaWalls® open to
connect the Breezespace to the outdoors, creating an
open-air living room that beautifully marries the home’s

The Blu | Glidehouse® combines convenient single-story

The Blu | Lofthouse® combines the best of modern design
with a classic pitched roof. Experience the wide open floor
plans, two story living room, the signature Loftspace®,

The Blu | Element® is designed to be extraordinarily eco-
friendly, efficient, and convenient. Using Blu’s Smart
Design concept, the Element is “designed big” rather
than “built big,” meaning that it has been thoughtfully
designed to feel more spacious and to allow for a
smaller overall footprint with the same functionality and
comfort level. Some of the key Element features include
up to 12’ high ceilings, a multi-function living area,
and abundant windows, including beautiful clerestory
windows and a wall of sliding glass doors that wash the

The Element comes in two lengths and a multitude of
floor plans ranging from one to three bedrooms and up

now available in even more sizes, layouts and roof lines.
The Origin comes in three sizes—24’, 36’ and 48’ long
by 18’ wide—and has countless possibilities on floor
plans. It can be a lovely “small is beautiful” home, with
one or two bedrooms for a small “camp” or lake-side
retreat. As a studio, Origin is a perfect home addition,
guest house or master bedroom. Other Origin home
addition possibilities include a yoga space, exercise

Smart Design is what lays the foundation of successful green buildings. We focus on incorporating as many recycled, reclaimed, and renewable products as possible in our homes to be respectful of the earth’s resources. Our off-site factory construction also allows us to reduce waste and use fewer materials overall — approximately 50% to 75% less waste during construction. Finally, we choose products for longevity and low maintenance — materials with longer lives mean less work for owners and less waste.
Blu homes maximize energy efficiency through an extremely tight and well-insulated building envelope, efficient heating and cooling, fixtures and appliances, and energy monitoring systems that provide transparency on how much energy you are using.
