What’s the purpose of this session?
• Think about the teaching and learning that happens in your classroom.
• How can you organise teaching and learning in a way that
• Embraces Digital Citizenship?
• Engages Students?
• Demonstrates Sound Pedagogy?
• Embraces 21st Century Learning?
• It contains students and devices!
• The year is 2013!
• Keeps some of the old, while strongly supporting the new?
So what is 21st Century Teaching and Learning?
• Lots of different definitions. My definition is simple, it is the 5 C’s
• Finding Digital Content [and Curating it].
• Critical Thinking about that content.
• Communicating [F2F and online].
• Collaborating and Creating using technology.
• Digital Citizenship, being a safe and ethical user of the internet.

Bloom’s Digital
Taxonomy
What’s eduSTAR?All schools have computers that have a variety of both licenced and free or open source software [FOSS]. In DEECD schools this software is bundled under the name eduSTAR. There are Windows and Mac versions
There are currently over 80 software applications available on the eduSTAR [Windows] software list. The broad range of applications covers: animation, concept and Mind Mapping, digital video and image creation, drawing and painting, interactive curricular resources, logic and problem-solving, 3D modelling and game-making, presentation and multimedia tools, sound and music making, thinking skills, typing tutors, web authoring tools and writing tools.
For complete lists seehttp://epotential.education.vic.gov.au/showcase/edustar_win/list_winandhttp://epotential.education.vic.gov.au/showcase/edustar_mac/list_mac
The next two slides will concentrate on using the software that is always loaded with the operating system or using free or open source software. This means that, as the software is free, if the schools you are working in don't have the software on their computers, hopefully you can get the school technician to load it for you!
You can also load it freely on your home computer to play with.
What if I don’t know how to use the eduSTAR software?

What sort of thinking skills are in your planning?
• Read through your lesson plans or unit planners.
• When you see evidence of a or a
activity listed highlight it with the appropriate color.
• When you have finished what do you notice?
• Is there a good balance between lower order and higher order thinking skills?
• Or do some adjustments need to be made?

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy & Questioning
• Great questioning should encourage the use of lower order and higher order skills in answers by students.
• Questions which build on lower order thinking skills should come first.
• This will provide a scaffold for students to answer with higher order skills in answers.
• Modelling of questions and appropriate answers by teachers is important. Teach the language of great answers!
