Mary

Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon had a baby called Mary. She had been affected by her parent´s divorce. She wanted to make England Roman Catholic again, so when she became queen (1553) Churches began to be change back once more.

Bloody Mary

About 800 protestants left the country when Mary became Queen, because from 1555 onwards she burnt protestants alive. That´s why she was called Bloody Mary.

280 protestants were burnt : 193 were burnt in London, Kent, Essex,

Suffolk, Norfolk and Sussex. 1 in the North (Chester), 1in the West

(Exeter), 3 in Wales. 55 women were burnt. She also burnt 1 archbishop and 4 other

bishops.

How did she die and how did she become queen?

Mary died when she was 42 because of symptoms that may have indicated disorder, such as a pituitary tumor. She had suffered lactation and lost of her eyesight.

Mary became queen only after a faction of Protestant nobles tried to put Lady Jane on the throne. Only a handful of executions followed, including Lady Jane.
