The Invitation Invite all residents impacted by your event. A simple, fun lyer

(samples are available on-- line for block captains) distributed to neighbors will

serve as an invitation and alert to households on your block; include a contact

    email/phone number.

Emergency Vehicle Access Dont use parked cars or hard--to--

    move objects to

block street or alley access. Emergency vehicles need 10 feet of clearance.

Use streamers, wooden horses, trash barrels tied with bright balloons all of

which can be easily moved. NNA has wooden horses available for NNA block

captains to borrow. Simply contact [email protected]

    to reserve them.

Food Allergies Prepare ahead of time for those (especially children) with allergies:

have ingredients listed on home--baked goods and provide a peanut/dairy/egg--

    free food table as needed.

Safe Water Play Provide a set time for swimming pools, and then empty them.

This will prevent little ones from wandering into a pool after dark, when there

    may not be supervision.

Familiar and Unfamiliar Guests If many non--resident guests are expected, hand

out wristbands or nametags to identify folks as friendly strangers. This also

provides a means to address anyone without a marker and perhaps ask them

    to leave.

Other Safety Precautions Have ire extinguishers available and consider having

an on--the--spot irst aid kit with an eye washer, bug bite swabs, and

    sunscreen.

    No Fireworks: They are illegal.

Clean--Up When planning the block party, remember to assign responsibility for

    clean up after the event.

Noise Complaints Noise complaints (including ampliied sound or live music)

can be subject to calls for service from the Police Department at any time,

    especially after 10:00 p.m.
