First Reading: The author of life you put to death, but God raised him from the dead; of this we are witnesses. (Acts 3:15) The First Reading is a blunt missionary

sermon of Saint Peter. The people had not expected a suffering Messiah and so they put Jesus to death. But now they have an opportunity to recognize the truth about Jesus and accept Him as the Savior sent by God. Saint Peter urges them to reform their lives and turn back to God.

Psalm: Lord, let your face shine on us. (Ps 4) The Responsorial

Psalm expresses the reaction that Saint Peter’s words would bring.

Second Reading: He is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world. (1 Jn 2:2)In

the Second Reading Saint John assures us that – even when we sin – Jesus continues to love us. He intercedes for us with the Father, and the Father hears Jesus’ prayer because Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice to take away the sins of the world.

Gospel: “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name.” (Lk 24:46-47) The Gospel is a dramatic and

significant post-Resurrection appearance of Jesus as recorded by Saint Luke. The Lord appeared, demonstrated that He was real and not a ghost, and then ordered the Apostles to start preaching and witnessing.

we are presented opportunities to help see the

the face of Jesus to oth-

THE DISCIPLES were not content with staying in the Upper Room and just believing in Jesus themselves. They could not do that. The Lord demanded that they go out and tell others the Good News – that the forgiveness of

sins and eternal life were available for all people everywhere. The disciples had to become apostles. They had to become evangelists. The disciples could not keep the wonders of the New Life in Christ to themselves...

Nor can we!

Rev. Joseph Pellegrino, Dio. of St. Petersburg

As we are called to see ourselves and each other as earthen vessels that hold God's presence and bring God's gifts to the world, so too, this very world and all that is above, around and within it are earthen vessels - just as easily shattered, just as much in need of our loving attentiveness and support. May our hands align with God's in caressing and shaping these vessels.

For trees, plants, crops, and forests. Let us pray. For water, oceans, rivers, streams and ponds. Let us pray. For air, wind, climate and weather. Let us pray. For sun, clean energy and prevention of global warning. Let us pray. For animals, especially endangered species. Let us pray. For all humankind. Let us pray. For recycling and moderate personal consumption. Let us pray. For proper use of chemicals and disposal of toxic waste. Let us pray. For Earth and unity. Let us pray.

Creator God, we thank you for all of creation. We ask your forgiveness where we have failed to be just stewards. And we now ask for your guidance in restoring the face of the earth. May we learn to live in harmony, safety and just sharing of resources among all so that we achieve the kingdom of God. Peace be to this community. Peace be to this land. Peace be to all people. Amen.

This prayer was adapted for Earth Day 2013 by the Catholic Health Association from a novena developed by the Mercy Justice Circle in New Jersey. (www.sistersofmercy.org)

Welcome parishioners and visitors to our continuing

celebration of Easter!

These 50 days (from Holy Week to Pentecost) have been called

“the radiant center of the liturgical year.”

We keep celebrating so that we might better understand the

meaning of the Resurrection and how it touches our daily lives.

Offertory Report:

Good Friday Holy Land $184 Sunday, April 4: $2,917

Sunday, April 11: 1,314

Last week Annette wrote to thank those that step up and volunteer in so many ways to keep the parish safe and to also help it to always

look so beautiful, inviting and appropriate for each liturgical season. I want to take this opportunity to thank Don Rafferty and Dan Sheridan for setting up the Easter Cross of the Risen Lord in the Church Sanctuary for us this year. It is not easy to get that accomplished. You need to be strong and able to scale a ladder. But, it is so special to see it up there and would be a shame to not have it displayed- so thanks a lot, fellas. Thanks also, to Dawn Faller, Ellie Torebka, AnnetteTyrrell and Laraine Caldwell for the beautifying the Church environment this Easter. And, of course our Music Ministry. Our Liturgy is so enhanced by them and they certainly help us give glory to God!

This past Sunday, Divine Mercy Sunday, we had a special Holy Hour at 3PM. It included Eucharistic Adoration, the Divine Mercy Chaplet with music, the reflections of St. Faustina, the litany to Divine Mercy, and Benediction. Thank you to those who attended and to those who had a role in the service-Don and Cheryl Rafferty, Karen McGurl, Dawn Faller and Annette Tyrrell.

Jesus, We Trust in You.

How to Fail Your Way to Heaven —Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

You know what are some of my favorite moments in Scripture? The little “Easter eggs” of Jesus’ humanity, things like

Jesus falling asleep, Jesus drawing in the sand, Jesus playing with kids. And how about Jesus rising from the dead,

appearing to his disciples and saying, “So, have you got anything to eat?”

It’s right for us to always keep in mind that Jesus is God. But we also have to remember that he was man. He got

hungry. He cried when he felt sad and laughed when he felt happy. He got tired. He got bored.

Because he was God, none of those feelings ever led him into sin, like they do us. He never spent a car ride trying to

pass the hours by seeing how annoyed he could make his older sister. He never smacked Peter over the head for

saying something really stupid. But he did unleash some Biblically righteous anger on those traders in the temple,

didn’t he? And he wasn’t shy about calling Peter “a Satan” when his friend tempted him to take the easy way out.

It’s the tightrope walk we all try to balance every day, honoring our human emotions while still answering God’s call to be better. Being perfect isn’t the domain of the Christian — that’s the domain of Christ only. Trying and failing, then trying again (and failing again) and again and again? That’s the domain of the Christian.

Happy April Birthday to : Pat Cushing, Tom Donohue, Courtney Duggan, Joe Silipigno, Roberta Sims, Rita Whitney.

On your birthday, may God warm your heart and lift your spirits. May He grant you peace

not only on this very special day, but also in every single day of your life!

FROM POPE FRANCIS:

“Now is the time to say to Jesus: ‘Lord, I have let myself be deceived; in a thousand ways I have shunned Your love. Yet here I am once more, to renew my covenant with You. I need you. Save me once again, Lord, take me once more into Your redeeming embrace.’ How good it feels to come back to Him whenever we are lost!”
