PRINCIPAL NEWS with Louise Tate

Mrs Tate Absent From the start of Week 6, May 29th, I will be on medical leave until the start of Term 3. During this time another relieving principal from outside the school will be the caretaker of Blakebrook Public School. The staff will provide great support and stability during this time and I expect that the school will able to continue in its current format during my absence. Doing Things Together Day (DTT) - Mufti Day = gold coin donation Don’t forget tomorrow, Friday 19th May, students are encouraged to come dressed in their food colours for our Allergy Week Doing Things Together Day. The gold coin donation will allow students to get one pinkie nail painted by our senior students. This is to remind them that 1:10 people in Australia suffer from an allergy. That equates to 9 of our student population - concerning statistics. Funds raised will be donated to JRFH. School Photos School photos are on next week, Thurs 25th May. Teachers are collecting envelopes now to help with the photographer’s organisation. Please ensure correct money is in the envelope or paid online. We still have a few envelopes available in each class, please let teachers know by Monday if you require one. All envelopes should be back at school by the deadline of Wed 24th May. Welcome Back to our Trainee Teachers Miss Hall in 2-3 room and Miss Stephens in K-1 room have returned this week to complete their final practicum. They will be taking over teaching duties as the 5 weeks progress so please feel free to come and chat with them if you are concerned about anything in either class. Interest Days The Term 2 action packed Small Schools Interest Days are fast approaching. K-2 students will be travelling to Caniaba (Environmental theme), Years 3 & 4 will stay at Blakebrook (Science theme) as Mrs Skorjenko is hosting the event for this age group and Years 5 & 6 will travel to Coffee Camp (theme TBC). Students will need drinks and a packed lunch for the day and teachers will be accompanying their classes. Please fill in the permission slip (sent home today on yellow paper) and return to school by Tuesday 30/5/17. There will be no cost as the bus travel is covered by the school. BPS Annual School Report (ASR) The school ASR has been uploaded to the school website for interested parents and community members. P&C End of Financial Year Sales bus trip For a day full of fun and frivolity sign up friends and family for this years shopping trip. Its the only time of year where you can shop till you drop, have a relaxing kid free lunch or even go to Gold Class cinemas with Suzie!!! Let Betty McPaul know your seat numbers sooner rather than later because it is guaranteed to fill up fast. I can’t go but I’ll be writing a list!! Mother’s Day Morning Tea roundup How wonderful it was to see all the mums, grandmas, nannies and friends at last Fridays morning tea (#35+). It was lovely to spend some time together enjoying a cuppa and some ‘fine’ entertainment.

Terania District SOFTBALL Knockout Games by Marion Stevens The Girls team play tomorrow, Friday 19th May 2017 at Byron Bay fields. Private transport. $2 ref fee

*Mrs Stevens sent an updated note home to the girls team yesterday about the change of venue to Byron Bay *

The Boys team play on Tuesday 30th May 2017 (T2W6) at Albert Park fields in Lismore. Private transport. $2 ref fee

2-3 Classroom News with Mrs Skorjenko The 2-3 classroom air conditioning unit was damaged in the recent flood and is not working. Children should

bring a jumper/jacket to keep warm. The classroom is often very cold, especially in the mornings.

At this stage we have no date when the a/c will be fixed.

Year 6 Shirts: Sincere apologies to Jaden and family. His name was accidently omitted from the back of the Y6 shirts. Mrs Tate chose a new supplier and, with different procedures, the final print draft was not double-checked. We have now implemented a new procedure checklist to avoid this happening in the future. If anyone would like to send in their shirt/s Wendy has offered to add Jaden’s name by hand during lunch times.

NCPSSA Soccer Selections by Marion Stevens On Tuesday Jake was successful in gaining a place in the North Coast Boys Soccer team. Congratulations Jake! An oversight meant I missed the notification for the boy’s trials and hadn’t organised notes for them. I apologise for this and will endeavour for this to not happen again. “… we all learn from our mistakes”

Important ADMIN Information

Dear Parents and Carers

Blakebrook Public School will transition to the new NSW Public Schools’ finance system and a new centralised bank account on 4

th September 2017 (T3W8). This is in line with all NSW Public Schools.

A reminder to the way we accept payments from parents and carers. We ONLY accept either CASH or POP payments.

POP payments can only be accessed through our school website blakebrook-p.schools.nsw.edu.au

All notes and money/payment info should be returned to home class teachers, copies of notes are also available from the class teachers.

Sporting notes will be managed by Mrs Stevens, with Mrs Perren as emergency backup. Please return notes to them.

With the introduction of the new LMBR system many areas in Admin/Finance will change. This involves a significant amount of work and time processing through transition tasks and attending training days. During the next six months Wendy will be extremely busy with all these extra tasks - plus trying to complete all the usual work tasks in a shorter period of time. Many weeks will mean having to attempt fitting five days work into three, while retaining new LMBR work methods and practising them. The teachers are supporting Wendy by taking over all student note collections, payments, messages & queries. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

TRAINING & TRANSITION DAYS : Office will be unstaffed &/or unavailable There are15 training days, scattered from end Term 2 to early Term 4 that Wendy will be attending LMBR training days. There is also a two week period that the Office will be unavailable as Wendy will be busy with final LMBR transitioning tasks and reporting. On these days the Admin Office will be unstaffed. This means no phone calls or emails will be answered. All communication will be through the home class teachers, including bus messages. Please ensure you are organised and send in notes
