WC2 – Hardware Assessment
Updating Device Driver
Open up the system properties by clicking on start menu then right click on the computer button then this screen should open on your screen. Then click on the device manager on the top left
side of the window.
This window should display all devices currently installed on the computer. Select a device.
Select the device item then right click then click onto update device driver.
The right click menu has been selected the driver update wizard should open.
The driver update wizard gives two options to choose from either update from the internet or browse local computer for software.
Cleaning CD or DVD drive
Locate your Optical Drive of your computer. Usually at the front of the desktop computer.
Open the Optical drive by pressing the button opposite the drive.
The drive is now open it is now ready to be cleaned.
Find a soft cloth to clean the optical drive.
Gently rotate cloth around the surface of the disk tray.
The disk tray should be clean around the sides of the tray.
Clean the bottom of the disk tray as well then close the drive.
Disk Maintenance
Go to my Computer , right click onto the local drive within properties, click on the defragmentation now button to start the wizard.
This window display the information about when it was last used.
When the defragment option has been clicked the process start clearing a unused fragment on the hard drive.
The Defragment has finished now you can click on analyse disk
It is now analysing the data collected from the defragment.
Using Diagnostic Software
Perform a system scan, select the hard drive you wish to scan, Then click the next button.
The program scans for problems or errors encountered within the operating system.
Changing RAM
Place new RAM onto a non static surface.
Open the side of the computer case.
Insert Memory Stick into the placeholder sockets on the motherboard then fasten with a screw driver if needed.
