Blake Edwards is internationallyrecognized as one of the leading post-World War II Hollywood filmmakersand the only one to have majorcareer success in the three mediaarts of radio, television and film. A"Renaissance Man," in the truestsense of the phrase, Blake Edwards'prolific talent, artistic advocacy, socialconscience and sophisticated senseof humor has earned him a significantand lasting place in the history of mediaentertainment.

In addition to his movie career andreflective of his reputation as achampion of artistic integrity, Edwardsfought a series of important, highlypublicized battles in the late 60s andearly 70s with major studios for thecreative rights of film directors andcomposers. More recently, he hasgained recognition as an accomplishedpainter and sculptor, and became thefirst Hollywood filmmaker to write, produce and direct a Broadway versionof one of his films, Victor / Victoria, which also marked the Broadway returnof his gifted wife and collaborator, JulieAndrews.

The subject of prestigious filmretrospectives around the world, and therecipient of numerous recognitions fromthe Writer's Guild of America and theDirector's Guild of America among manyothers, Blake Edwards was honoredlast year with a rare, special lifetimeachievement award from the Academyof Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
