It was great to see so many of our students so enthusiastic about tidying up our school, but even better is the fact that there was so little to clean up. Our new school plan is in its final stages of development. This plan will provide the school with direction over the next 3 years. Through consultation with staff and parents we have developed 3 key Strategic Directions: 1. Teaching and Learning — To develop teacher capacity through staff engagement in best practice and meaningful professional learning, in order to improve student learning outcomes. 2. Students — All students become successful, confident and creative learners, and active and informed citizens through effective student well- being programs, school systems and processes. Students access the curriculum at an appropriate level and through dynamic and innovative approaches in order to optimise learning outcomes. 3. Partnerships—Engagement of students, staff, parents, the wider community and local LMG schools through school practises that encourage and promote meaningful relationships and support transition to and from Blacksmiths Public School. Students engage with their own learning, school, and community and make global connections. Staff engages with students, parents, LMG and the wider DEC community to inform learning programs, build relationships and build capacity to improve student learning outcomes. Students, teachers and parents have had input into developing these key directions and if you would like to comment on the school plan while it is still in draft form please contact me at the office. PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT You will have noticed that the playground equipment is currently out of bounds due to some safety issues. Parents waiting to pick up their children should ensure that younger siblings DO NOT play on the equipment. We are currently investigating repair avenues. HAPPY BIRTHDAY

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Clean Up Schools Day last Friday. It was great to see so many of our students so enthusiastic about tidying up our school, but even better is the fact that there was so little to clean up.

Our new school plan is in its final stages of development. This plan will provide the school with direction over the next 3 years. Through consultation with staff and parents we have developed 3 key Strategic Directions:

1. Teaching and Learning — To develop teacher capacity through staff engagement in best practice and meaningful professional learning, in order to improve student learning outcomes.

2. Students — All students become successful, confident and creative learners, and active and informed citizens through effective student well-being programs, school systems and processes.

ASSEMBLY AWARDS - Week 4

NATIONAL RIDE2SCHOOL DAY Friday 13 March, 2015 is National Ride2School Day, where over 250,000 Australian students will ride or walk to school. It is about celebrating active travel within the school day and encouraging those who haven’t started to give it a go. It is a great way to get fit and healthy and contributes to the 60 minutes of daily recommended physical activity for students. Students also arrive alert, more attentive and ready to learn. All students under 10 years of age must ride with adult supervision. Children who are 10, 11 or 12 years old must have signed a 2015 Bicycle User’s Contract. Contracts are available from the school office. Once completed your child will be issued with a “Bicycle Licence”. GOOD FOR KIDS-CONGRATULATIONS BLACKSMITHS PUBLIC SCHOOL! ‘Good for Kids would like to acknowledge the great work Blacksmiths Public School Canteen has done to become compliant with the Fresh Tastes @ School NSW Healthy Canteen Strategy’

This week I have received an email from Hunter New England Health with the message above. This is a real feather in the cap for Mr Taylor and all of his volunteers in the canteen. It is fantastic to have the canteen operating 3 days a week and offering such scrumptious lunches. I urge everyone to keep supporting the canteen through either purchasing or volunteering.
