Hawks Devour Second Duck Course of the Weekend December 5, 2010 The Blackhawks finished their second CAHA weekend with a sweep over the Junior Ducks Club by defeating the Anaheim Jr. Ducks A2 squad 6-2. Geoffrey Grimm posted his best game of the weekend, stopping 25 of 27 shots to take cap another undefeated CAHA trip.

Blackhawks Score 3 Goals in Third to Finish off Roseville December 12, 2010 Getting back to their Norcal Schedule, the Blackhawks made another road trip to Roseville to take on the Capital Thunder. The Blackhawks took an early lead when Trevor Chapin scored 2:22 seconds into the game, with assists from James Lazette and Corey Gutierrez. However, the Blackhawks were blanked for the remainder of the period. The Blackhawks did manage to keep the Capital Thunder off the scoreboard in the first despite giving them a 5-3 opportunity late in the period. Nicholas Checklenis stopped all pucks thrown his way in the first.

The Blackhawks killed off the 5-3 and then took a 2-0 lead when Patrick Khodorenko scored off assists from Robby Jackson and David Adams. The Hawks killed off another penalty late in the second. However, Roseville cut the lead to 2-1 when they scored with 2:21 left in the second.

The third period started off slow. Coach Kellam used his only time out at the 10:39 mark of the third period. While the microphones at the game did not pick up the exact comments made, it was evident that the message got through to his players.

Downing added two assists and Jackson had an assist to give both three points for the mid-day tilt. James Lazette finished plus four to finish the weekend at plus eight over three games. Sharks’ Short Bench No Match For Blackhawks December 18, 2010 Normally, the cross-town rivalry brings some exciting hockey when the Sharks play the Blackhawks. However, other than a penalty-filled affair (e.g., seven roughing penalties), the Sharks injury-riddled short bench could not keep pace with the Blackhawks. At the end of the day, the Blackhawks skated away with a 4-1 victory and improved their record against the Sharks to 4-1-1 for the season.

Corey Gutierrez got things started for the Blackhawks when he scored in the first period off of an assist from Corey Semmelmayer. The Blackhawks outshot the Sharks 6 to 1 in the first period and managed to stay out of the box, with the exception of one penalty towards the end of the first. However, the Blackhawks managed to kill that penalty off to finish the first period with a 1-0 lead. More impressively, the Blackhawks managed to limit the Sharks to a single shot on goal during the first period.

Patrick Khodorenko made it 2-0 when he scored midway through the second period. Khodorenko’s goal was assisted by Robby Jackson. The Blackhawks took four penalties in the second period and managed to kill off three of them, including an extended 5-3 situation that lasted for several minutes as the Blackhawks had three players in the

more penalties to start the third period. However, the penalty kill held its own and kept the Sharks off of the score sheet. At the 4:48 mark of the third period, Robby Jackson scored an unassisted goal to increase the Blackhawks lead to 3-1. Then, with one minute remaining, Matthew Ebertin scored to give the Blackhawks a 4-1 margin of victory.

Interestingly enough, all of the Blackhawk goals were scored by Bantam underclassmen, three of which played for the Junior Sharks organization at one point in their hockey careers. upcoming tournament in Long Beach, California.

At the outset, it is fair to say that portions of this game resembled an NHL all-star game as both teams had no interest in hitting or injuring one of their fellow Blackhawks. That said, it is also true that the skating was fast and both teams were in it to win it. Connor Downing started the scoring for the Bantam AA squad with assists from Calvin Borneman and Corey Gutierrez. The Midget 16A Blackhawks countered with a goal of their own. However, Robby Jackson would put the Bantam AA squad ahead at the end of the first period when he scored off of an assist from Patrick Khodorenko. Nicholas Checklenis stopped six of seven shots in the first period.

The second period was won by the Midget 16A Blackhawks. They outscored the Bantam AA Hawks by a margin of 3-1. The Bantam AA squad did manage 11 shots, but Jared Lee was the only Hawks shooter who

managed to get one to cross the goal-line. Thus, the Bantam AA team entered the third period trailing 4-3.

The third period once again saw the Bantam AA team control the play. The Bantam AA Hawks out-shot the Midget 16A team 12 to 4 in the third. Jackson scored his second goal of the scrimmage off of assists from Khodorenko and Malthe Helt. With 1:29 remaining in the third, Matthew Ebertin knocked in the game winner with an assist from Trevor Chapin. Jackson and Khodorenko led the Bantam AA squad with two points apiece. Seven other team members registered at least one point. The Bantam AA Hawks out-shot the Midget 16As 32-23 over the course of the game. Checklenis was the winning goaltender with 19 saves.
