BLACK FACTORY.
ELEANOR HAZARD.
1. meet me at black factory it's written on the pines it's spoken from the ceiling in yr secret language it's a face outside the window that you recognize at any second you could die you think about that now and then when trying to make decisions but it's always cold enough to wear a jacket so it's getting simpler you don't remember any time you leave the house but at least yr always walking in the same direction
2. yr reminded of the ocean every time you walk uphill something in the lines of tiny stones that you imagine you can almost tell what makes it rain but then it slips away you set yr sights atop the hill where there are smokestacks at night the silence slips into yr shoes
3. walking in the middle of the road when no one's watching is as good as being dead and you can't stop
4. train roars behind black factory you never learned to turn the flash off when you rly need to and yr sitting yr sitting where the grass will always love you and the wind is singing no one in particular it's dark up on the hill but you hear the things that don't become you the quiet whispers in the fence around black factory the deer are staring back at you and you can hear it you take a picture of yrself while you are cold
5. deja vu when the nostalgia hits there used to be a tree not far away from the hill you see its shadow trying desperately to be among the pawprints you remember how it used to be yr crown and you would sit and arch yr back and talk to random strangers on the sidewalk yr branches are beloved they would say and then you'd banish them but only out of love remember all the texture in their hands and how it would surprise you there are things that only resonate in summer while the kids are growing up of course none of this has happened but it takes you back the smell of wood shavings under fingernails that you used to love
6. you hear an organ thru the smokestacks a sound that means the sky is paper thin you reconstruct the house that you grew up in hair by hair in the back of yr mind listen for the moon only when yr floundering in music are you certain yr alone it’s much too cloudy to be young tonight
7. the fence around black factory does not exist but the doubt is just enough to keep it sharp there is time enough to stand outside the borders that you drew yrself and consider what you would have done in high school had you known that this would happen and the wings you cannot see will touch the tips of both yr ears in darkness nothing else to stop you now from wanting to be closer to black factory
8. a want to be inside feel the word of it press down across yr lips with cheek against the outer wall that's made of brick or something motherly yr skin can touch the chill locks rattle in time with yr bones the organ song is filthy and wide
9. you use the hole inside yrself to enter things you shouldn't
10. no light inside black factory this space is full of dark forest there is gray yarn in the lower branches there is dead fur in the bush no organ song but traces of its memory in the soil allow yrself an intuition something in the forest softly singing or enunciating just out of reach wondering what it is saying what it is leaking why it is using yr voice a creeping licks at yr ankles but at least it's warm
11. something you remember in yr throat an ancient note yr familiar with the dark forest you feel it in yr tongue old friends you'll never understand it but it listens
12. hipbone full of phantom vibrations you hang from lowest tree sunk into the mud the deer are powerful in all yr pictures everyone else has gone
13. at some point you have to move on infinitely
14. sometime after midnight the insides of a thick glass bottle it's darker when you stumble on the railroad tracks yr growing closer to the something singing you don't know why they have no gender in yr mind spend time counting the birds you can't see and try to feel better you are watched and you are loved at some point or another don't you think so they say and seem to say
15. you find yrself in a dark forest on the inside of black factory you sing to yrself with the voice of an organ and kiss you on the head you remind yrself of cats you can't tell if that's a good thing taking pictures of yrself among the yarn among the gentle grass you never learned to turn the flash off in the dark tell yrself you bruise quite well everyone else has gone
16. funny how you've memorized the way back to yr house far away you feel a train all the trees will tremble for you ask yrself if you are happy with yrself do it for me and do not answer it's impossible to tell yrself that something isn't possible
17. say please possess yr fingers keep singing long enough and you'll remember why you care it's a certain trust that starts around yr ankles the kind yr not supposed to find in dark forests
18. the time for you to hate something has passed the smile's no longer frozen to yr face you sit beside yrself beneath the lowest tree imagining a furry thing the shadows here are warm and you can't help it
19. sometime after midnight yr not sure how long you've been alone the branches in yr dream were so resplendent on yr head but you still can't see the birds which bothers you in distant ways taking off yr coat you realize you have nothing to wake up to and nowhere else to be looking thru the pictures of yrself the deer have left for you you are the only map that you will ever need and you can't stop shaking you feel smokestacks leaning overhead you are watched and you are loved so you say and seem to say
