The 2015 BDGC Christ- mas party was held on December 12th with a pretty good turn out. There was turkey and ham provided by the club and member con- tributed several different sides to go along with the turkey and ham, I don’t think anyone went away hungry.

2016 Continental League Shoot Jan 17th
Volunteers needed
PAGE 2 THE BULLSHEET VOLUME 2, I SSUE 12
I hope everyone had a great 2015. I am looking forward to another good year at the club. The Continental Warm Up shoot on December 12
th went well with 32 shooters attending. The Christ-
mas dinner was on Saturday night and I think everyone had a good time. We had over 40 mem-bers and families enjoying a great dinner with lots of good food. A silent auction, with some very nice donations, was held after dinner. There were some anxious moments while we waited who the winners would be. The youngest winner was 2 year old Samantha Phillips who won a little Seahawk bear! Next we had our rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting contest. Two rifle shooters had a 4 round shoot-off. There were 3 winners, one in each discipline that took home a ham.
On Sunday, January17th, we will be hosting regular Continental shoot, which usually draws about 115 shooters. We are in need of volunteers to help load the trap houses and score. If you can come and help out the club for 2, 4, 6 or more hours, it would be much appreciated. You can email me at [email protected]. Breakfast and lunch will be prepared and served by Al Hope, complimentary for those who volunteer to work the shoot.
By the time you read this Bullsheet, Christmas 2015 will be over. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and will have a joyous New Year.

Shotgun Chokes In the beginning, shotguns came with fixed choke barrels. Regardless
of gauge or configuration, shotgun barrels were designed and manufac-tured to provide an optimal and effective shot pattern of 24”-30” in diam-eter on the target or bird at varying distances. You could buy your shot-gun with barrels machined in Cylinder or Skeet for close-in 20-25 yard shots; Modified and Improved Modified for those 30-40 yard shots; and Full constriction for those longer 45-55 yard shots. If you bought a single barrel shotgun, normally you would buy it with a Modified or Improved Modified all-purpose barrel. If your shotgun came with two barrels, you would want a Modified barrel for that first, close-in shot, and a Full barrel for that second, farther-away shot. The last 3”-4” of the inside diameter of the barrel is what actually determines the shape, density, and spread of the shot pattern as it leaves the muzzle of the shotgun. Based on the type of hunting or shooting that was expected, barrels were machined with varying constrictions to ei-ther open-up or tighten-down the pattern of shot as desired. For example, barrels with open Cyl-inder or Skeet chokes were purchased for those close-in shots on fast moving and crossing birds like pigeons or doves. On the other hand, tighter Improved Modified or Full choke barrels were desired for those longer-range pheasant, or high-flying duck and goose hunting shots. Today, when you buy a new shotgun, it will usually come with three (insertable) choke tubes, Cyl-inder, Modified, and Full. These (screw-in) chokes are usually 3”-4” long and are color-coded, or distinctly marked according to their constriction. Every shotgun manufacture will offer a variety of choke tubes for their own shotguns. Plus, there are numerous excellent after-market choke manufacturers as well. For me, I think this market has gotten a little carried away with the myriad of sizes, types, and styles of chokes available. However, it’s a proven fact that the use of choke tube inserts has greatly improved the versatili-ty, value, and performance of all shot-guns both on the range and in the field.

Coal Cart update! By Tom Hunt
Well, the Black Diamond Gun Club Coal Cart is on the move again! With the help of the Carrols trailer and Kevin’s winching expertise, we got it loaded back on the trailer (not with out some bumps and bruises) for it’s next stop. This time it spent the day out at Ron & Leo’s Welding and Fabrication shop in Enumclaw getting some much needed dressing up! John Abbott did the technical work, Tom and Pat Man-yon did the fetching and provided dead weight to bend the dents out by hanging on the clamp bars!
Ron and Leo’s of Enumclaw (Ron on the right and John Abbot on the left) have been really good to the club so, if you ever need any work done or can refer some-one to Ron’s for work, I am sure he would appreciate it.
The Cart is back at the club for a few days of cleaning out and then we are working on the next trip which is to get it sandblasted, primed and painted! Got any paint color ideas for us?
If anyone wants to help with the next step of building the final display location contact Tom Hunt at 253-951-2425 or [email protected].
