to us at Black Bamboo. Since opening in 2004, we

have supported bringing authentic and timeless design to our hometown of Kansas City. Our collection is

comprised of Asian antiques and artifacts (personally selected by me from buying trips to China and

throughout Southeast Asia), that are mixed with well-designed modern furnishings and objects to

complement your taste, whether traditional or modern in style. Modern classic furnishings from the revered

design houses, Herman Miller® and Knoll®, along with American Leather, comprise the base of our furniture

collection. Most of the objects in our collection also come from artists and designers around the world that

strive to make well designed and uncommon products, such as personal accessories made from recycled bike

inner tubes from the guys at Alchemy Goods (page 20), handmade ceramics by Alex Marshall (pages 12–13)

or hand woven textiles for pillows and scarves by Margo Selby (page 17).

Whether you are a long time loyal customer, or just hearing about us for the first time, we hope you have as

much fun exploring our catalog as we have had putting it together.

27. Margo Selby, a British textile designer trained extensively in woven textiles, is bold in her approach to creating fabrics. Her color palette is fresh and striking and geometric patterns are her signature. Each of her scarves is hand woven in her London studio and made of silk and Lycra woven in a double cloth structure to create a 3-dimensional e�ect.

TIME OUTMR. JONES WATCHES DO MORE THAN TELL TIME, THEY’RE JEWELRY FOR THE MINDBritish designer, Crispin Jones, is drawn to the wristwatch as a great technological survivor. He sought to undermine the idea of the watch as a status symbol and instead wanted to explore alternative ways of displaying time. In a period where everyone looks to their cell phone for accurate time, he prefers to think of time in routines and moments. All of his watches are made in small batches and every year he introduces a few designs, signed and numbered, in limited editions of 100. The most popular models are then reissued and added as part of the permanent collection.

1. Cyclops Summer Nights, $200 The idea with Cyclops is that it can be read with a relaxed kind of accuracy that o�ers a counterpoint to our hectic lives—after all,

most of us don't need to know that it's 4:43 and 27 seconds, we need to know that it's about a quarter to five. The design dispenses with the conventional hour, minute and seconds hand; instead the time is read by observing the position of the white hoop as it moves around the colored dial.

2. The New Decider, $200 The New Decider helps you make decisions. As the seconds tick round the words “yes” and “no” are alternately displayed. When you

need to make a decision, simply glance at the watch for your answer. A magnifying dome sits just above the answer window to aid visibility.

3. The Last Laugh, Tattoo Edition, $250 This is a special edition version of The Last Laugh. It features the specially commissioned artwork of British tattoo artist, Adrian

Willard. The time on this watch is displayed on the skull's teeth - the upper jaw shows the hours and the lower the minutes. Adrian says “the design comes from the Mexican Day of the Dead festival. The festival focuses on gathering to remember friends and family who have died. Many gifts and o�erings are handed out including sugar skulls that are given to both the living and the dead. It has become a very popular image in the tattoo world over the years and has replaced the regular skull in the mainstream tattoo trends”.

4. The Last Laugh, $230 Designed with comedian William Andrews, this watch forgoes the customary hour and minute hands, instead the time is displayed on

a skull’s teeth. The eyes and the nose are mirrored and the overall impression is of a gleefully absurd memento mori—an object intended to remind us that life is brief.
