44.JuraWhisky(Syrahfinish)1996, Planeta £11.50Full and grippy with notes of orange zest, cloves, cinnamon; an attractive bitterness comes through, backed up with some rowan berry fruit, layers of hot chocolate and Ovaltine malt show on the finish as does a delightful burnt shortbread character. 45.MortlachWhisky(Nerod’Avolafinish)1991, Planeta £11.50Thick Italian espresso and dark chocolate, dried fruits-prunes, currants and apricots, full flavour of nut brittle, some notes of Nutella and treacle with superb integration of the fine oak tannins, a really long finish. [ 46% abv ]

46. Lot 76 X.O. Cognac, Tesseron £12.00To quote F Paul Pacult “The pristine condition of this stunningly copper-colored brandy is inspiring – it’s gorgeous. In the nose there are delicate fragrances of spice, sesame seed, light oak, and baked pears; seven more minutes in the glass bring out pineapple, light toffee, milk, and brown sugar. The palate entry is elegant, composed, and moderately sweet in more of an oaky than a fruity way; by the midpalate stage, there’s flavor evidence of ripe pear, white grapes, cake frosting, oloroso sherry, orange peel and dark honey. Ends up sugary sweet, satiny textured, and long in the throat.” [ 40% abv ]
