1. Trace of Exit Roll, Rib (Uneven luster in feeding direction) [Symptom] Trace of exit roll: A difference appears in a luster in a part with the roll and a part without the roll. Trace of ribs: Vertical line and unevenness occur in first side of two-sided of a thick paper. [Occurrence Paper] Trace of roll: OHP, Glossy paper Trace of ribs: Thick paper (first side when duplex printing) [Presumed Cause] <Trace of roll> -A difference appears in a luster in a part with the roll and a part without the roll because heat is taken by the paper exit roller. - WAX in a toner composition adheres to the roll face and the opposite roller, and it occurs. <Trace of ribs> - A paper is pressed against ribs between the fusing unit and paper exit. [Action] <Trace of roll> -Fusing temperature is lowered. [Service Mode] [Machine1] [Fusing Temperature] Heater Roller -20° to -5° *Notice: By lowering fusing temperature, fixation falls and image separates easily. <Trace of ribs> - Fusing transport speed is lowered. Image becomes rough [Symptom] Copy image becomes rough in text/photo mode (No problem in photo mode, Remarkable in a low concentration part) [Presumed Cause] One beam breaks down among two beams of PH. (Image processing takes error diffusion in text/photo mode. Leading edge dirt [Symptom] (A) Trace of leading edge of the ribs (B) Both edge of an image of paper is dirty [Presumed Cause] (A) Leading edge of the paper contacts separation claws and the guide because the size of curl of the paper is too large. (B) The conveyance guide is dirty. (Toner / Smoke) (B) Separation of thin paper is bad, and since the transfer voltage becomes high when printing in color, it becomes difficult to separate the paper from the transfer belt, and the leading edge of the paper contacts the separation claw. (C) The part which is in contact with the belt of the transfer cleaning unit is dirty. 7. Carrier adhesion [Symptom] - Image is rough. (Carrier adhesion) [Presumed Cause] (A) The connection of harness between PRCB and HV board is not connected firmly. [Presumed Cause] (A) Charge neutralizing level is not enough. And static electricity is generated because paper is rubbed firmly by the guide of plate. As the result of the static electricity, the toner is sprinkled in the Feeding Direction. (B) Resistance becomes high because of type of paper, and 2 transfer current falls. Since the adsorption power between toner and paper fell, we presume that toner spreads easily. The guide of

13. Low Image Density [Symptom] By the pattern on which blue color is lapped over, transfer is bad and image density is low. (There are image lightness and image unevenness.) [Presumed Cause] (A) The 2nd transfer voltage is low. (B) Effect of the usage paper (The paper currently used in Japan has trend for electrical resistance to be high, and it is disadvantageous for transfer.) [Basic Action] The 2nd transfer voltage is increased. (The reference adjustment value of each paper is indicated to the following page.) <Procedure> [Service Mode] [Imaging Process Adjustment] [Transfer Output Fine Adjustment] [2 Transfer Fine Adjust] + 1 to 2 steps (It changes a little with papers to be used.) Reference: 1 step: 100V *Notice: If +6 steps are adjusted uniformly, there is risk that 2nd transfer voltage will become overmuch depending on the paper to be used, and an image failure, such as an image memory, will occur, please do not carry out that adjustment. *Notice: If 2nd transfer voltage is lower than the proper value, 10. Manual Double-sided Image Transfer Failure [Symptom] Image density is low when using manual double-sided [Presumed Cause] The electrical resistance of the reverse side of paper becomes high and back of paper has trend for transfer to be bad. *Since papers resistance are high and papers immediately after printing have bad transfer, please avoid it immediately. 16. Paper Wrinkle [Symptom] - Wrinkles are generated. [Presumed Cause] (A) When using Humidity paper, since leading edge of paper becomes meandering, adjustment of paper for the fusing roller irruption cannot be performed in the guide before fusing. (The guide before fusing is usually center concave or center convex and leading edge of paper is lightly adjusted by putting into leading edge of paper in the guide before a rotation.) (B) - Paper is not parallel to the fusing roller by paper skew. - Fusing Unit is installed in incline.

- There is much gap between paper and the regulation plate in Tray. (C) - Wrinkles occur because paper skew is large before 2nd transfer. [Basic Action] (A) - Changing papers (hard papers or papers that right after unpacking) - Papers set upside-down

- The guide is cleaned before fusing (B) - Check whether regulation of paper setting is right or not. - Re-installation of Fusing Unit (C) - The side regulation plate in Tray is fixed with a screw

* Please be careful not to make a gap bigger between paper and the plate by shifting the plate. - How to adjust the amount of loop

[Cause] In order to adjust usually skew of leading edge of paper in timing roller, vertical conveyance roller located in the upper part of the timing roller is set the paper carrier speed faster than the timing roller. But when the conditions which are thick paper and feeding from 2nd paper tray are met, the paper conveyance power of paper feeding vertical conveyance section is increased, paper is tend to push 2nd transfer. 18 - 2. Color Shift (With Error Codes: P-14, P-21, P-22 etc.) [Symptom 1]

Error Code P-22 related to color shift was indicated when setting up, and a sample of the color shift was shifted 1 mm against Bk.

Each color was shifted against Bk. As a result, Error code of P-22 occurred.

[Cause] PC axis of Bk-IU might have been shifted from specification greatly because of the impact by a falling and dropping of IU enclosed by the main body. Although a repair part of IU has the packing form that has considered transportation as a unit, we assume that the transportation examination is in the status where the main body enclosed IU. Please be careful not to fall and drop IU even if it is enclosed state of packing although we believe that the treatment with the IU unit has already been careful enough.

25. C-8103 (Lift-up Mechanism Failure) [Symptom] C-8103 may be indicated by opening and closing DF [Presumed Cause] (A) DF is being opened in 90 degrees or more, when the power turns off on. Paper tray (movable part) comes into a floating state. (Note 1) This is the problem which it does not return to lower position in the initial work just after the power switch is on. This is generated when Lift-up lower position sensor turns off. Note 1: Although it originally goes down downward by its own weight, if 90 degrees or more FD opens, the loading to the bottom may not be applied but it may come floating. (B) When DF is opened in standby, since 90 degrees or more FD was opened, paper feed tray comes into a floating state, and when original empty sensor turns on and off by the impact or shake, etc., this is the problem which it does not return to lower position although paper tray is dropped. This is generated when Lift-up lower position sensor turns off and empty sensor turns on/off. [Basic Action] (A, B) Set a stopper to the regular position of the stopper in the hinge section. When many originals are put on DF original lifting plate and load is large to lift up mechanism of original lifting plate, the trouble code “C-8103 / Noise” may occur.

[Presumed Cause] The worm gear cogs are out of alignment. A backlash of the part fixing the motor becomes large because of the variation of the part fixing the motor. The backlash makes distance between the worm gear installed on the motor and the next cog larger, which causes skip of the cogs to occur.

[Action] Backlash of the motor is taken away by sticking a spacer on the motor mounting plate.

26. C-8104 (glass movement failure) <Symptom> C-8104 occurs <Presumed Cause>

(A) DF original glass moving in IR unit does not move properly. A part of the dustproof seal used for DF original glass moving unit turned over, as it is possible to contact with surrounding parts. The sliding load of the glass movement up if a part of the dustproof seal contact with surrounding parts, and C-8104 is displayed. (Please refer to the TAD No: TABT0700179EN00)

(B) When JAM occurs in DF, if paper remained in the scanning 1st reverse section, when Jam is able to be canceled by operations of turning the power off and on or removing another jammed paper and raising paper tray, since the scanning 1st reverse section does not have paper detection sensor, it does not detect remaining paper. For this reason, although the machine will start normally, the glass moves by the initial operation, since trailing edge of the remaining original got stuck into the clearance between the scooping guide and the scanning glass, the glass was not able to return to home position.

28. LCC Paper miss-feed Jam problem in Tray 3, 4 [Symptom] Paper Jam occurs by the paper-feeding mistake in 3rd and 4th tray. (LCC) [Presumed Cause]

(A) Regulation of paper has not been performed according to backlash of paper edge guide being large. Or, there is no backlash oppositely, the paper-feeding resistance increases according to regulation being tight, and it becomes a paper-feeding mistake. (B) Last paper Jam occurs (miss-feed) because adhesion of Packing tape remains to the bottom. (C) Paper-feeding pressure is insufficient by Type of paper (e. g. Curling thick paper etc.), and it becomes a paper-feeding mistake.

[Basic Action]

(A) Adjust the paper edge guide (B) Remove remains of packing tape and then clean it with alcohol (C) Add Plate in Paper take-up Assy and adjust pressure of paper take-up (TAD No: TABT0700075EN00)

30. Jam in bypass feeding [Symptom] Jam in bypass [Presumed Cause]

(A) The conveyance resistance between PC sheet (Separation sheet: A00J5871) and paper becomes large, and it cannot stop to a definite period of time (Time's over) which is causes to generate Jam. (B) Leading edge of paper is caught and Jam is generated because Bypass feed conveyance section (Bypass holder: A00J5965) has burrs.

[Basic Action]

(A) Please peel off PC sheet (Separation sheet: A00J5871), and carry out alcoholic cleaning up so that the adhesion of PC sheet does not remain in conveyance path.

3. FAX board is being connected.(1) Tighten three screws as left figure.(2) Bring the screws to the left side and tighten the screws. Check whether the connection is enough to tight looking from the opening of 2nd FAX(3) If the connection is not enough, PCI relay board is directly brought to the left side to use the opening of 2nd FAX and fasten screws.

HDD conversion up procedure to support XPS printing (ONLY C550/C451) In this procedure, printer controller (Emperon) area in HDD is expanded for SPS printing This procedure is necessary only when the customer is working with Windows Vista environment and intends to print XPS format document. Important:(Please be sure to confirm before carrying out the procedure. ) - With this procedure, the part of HDD, which Emperon is using, will be formatted. Once HDD conversion is done, the

font /macro stored in HDD will be lost. Please carry out this procedure according to the customer’s demand. - There is no compatibility between "XPS Enable Format" and "XPS disable format".

Therefore, if the HDD backup data created by HDD Backup Utility before performing the "XPS Enable Format" is restored to HDD that was formatted with "XPS enable format", MFP does not work correctly.

1. To enable the XPS, select the key as follows.

Service Mode > State Confirmation Memory HDD Adj. XPS Enable Format 2. Press "Start" key to start "XPS Enable Format". 3. Message "Please turn the main switch off and on" will be displayed then turn OFF/ON the main power of MFP. 4. It is all set when starting up the machine. 3. Version down procedure from Function Enhancement 2 (Version 6B) to Function Enhancement 1 (Version 58/5U) Important: In Function Enhancement 2, new functions such as "Scan to WebDAV" or "Scan to USB" are supported. And the format to manage the job (image data) is extended in Box section of HDD. When updating the firmware from previous version to Function Enhancement 2, this format extension is executed automatically. When performing the version down, you must do either of following operation (A or B) in the version down procedure to perform inverse conversion of this format. A. HDD Logical Format. (All HDD data will be lost.)

A. Version down procedure when performing HDD Logical Format 1. Convert HDD, select the key as follows.

Select Service Mode State Confirmation Memory HDD Adj. Down Version 2. Press "Start" key to start "Down Version". 3. "OK" will be displayed then turn OFF the main power of MFP. 4. Perform the FW version down (rewrite to v58/ 5U) using compact flash. 5. "C-E002" is displayed on the panel after turning OFF/ON the main power. 6. Select Service Mode System Input State Confirmation Memory HDD Adj. DD Format 7. Select "Logical Format" and press "Start" key. 8. Message "Please turn the main switch off and on" will be displayed then turn OFF/ON the main power of MFP. 9. It is all set when starting up the machine. B. Version down Procedure when performing to delete all Boxes which are Public User Boxes, Personal User Boxes, and System Boxes 1. Delete all Public User Boxes and all Personal User Boxes. 2. Delete all data stored in System User Boxes (e.g. Secure Print User Box, Memory RX User Box etc.). 3. Convert HDD, select the key as follows. Select Service Mode State Confirmation Memory HDD Adj. 34. Noise from paper feed section (Tray1/Tray2) when feeding [Symptom]

Noise is generated when feeding papers from Tray1 and Tray2.

[Presumed Cause] Noise might be generated because of an interference between the clutch cover part in paper feed section and the edge of the gear next to the clutch cover.

[Action] *Temporary Action Please stick one OHP sheet of 8 (mm) x8 (mm) / thickness 0.1 (mm) to the following indicated place of "Paper Take-up Unit with noise" (right under a circular screw hole: red-color part ) with a double-stick tape. (It is only the back side of attachment hole for Paper Take-up Unit.) * It is the purpose to prevent an interference with the cover part of clutch and the gear by extending a little distance of Clutch of Paper Take-up Unit and the gear of main body side. Please be careful not to extend the distance too much because the transfer of the drive becomes unstable. It is an aim which is extended 0.2mm. (It spreads about 0.2mm in OHP sheet+(0.1mm) double-stick tape (0.1mm).)

35. Sticky paper when using OT-503 (Only C650) TAD:TABT0700331 [Symptom] Sticky papers occur in the combination of C650 and OT-503.

*This is the phenomenon in which exited paper toner melts with heat, and exited papers stick each other.

[Presumed Cause] It is easy to generate sticky papers due to the following conditions overlapped.

36. Waved Image (C650) [Symptom] With regard to Image in C650 after changing faster mode (for instance Monochrome mode just after Color mode), it may be waved. (Case example was confirmed is maximum 15 sheets)

It is likely that the resonant condition occurs due to the temperature condition, and fluctuation of the polygon motor of PH. As a result, the waved image is generated.

38. JAM in Tray 3 TABT0700528** [Symptom]

Non-feed JAM in the third tray

[Cause] When papers are added on the papers which remain in the tray, the border, between the remained papers in the tray and the added papers, has extreme low friction coefficient depending on the kind of the moisture-proof wax used for package paper of papers. As a result, the bunch of papers thrusts into the transfer guide section at the front of the paper feed roller in the third tray, and the bunch of papers jammed into the transfer guide, the non-feed jam may be generated infrequently.

39. Improvement of color IU standard yield achievement TNBT0700191**

As explained in the service manual/ training material, color IU life is defined by the life count. Life count is added up by the hours which IU is running. And standard yield is indicated as the number of prints which IU can produce until life count reaches “life value” in standard condition listed below. Due to this system, the color IU tends to reach life end before achieving standard yield if the print volume, the number of the prints per job and/or color print ratio is low because the ratio of the hours, which IU is working for printing indirectly, increase.

In order to improve the achievement to standard yield for color IU installed in low print volume / low P/J / low color ratio machine, following three functions will be implemented in the new FW.

These measures save the lifetime of IU in case… the users are mainly printing in monochrome. the users do not print many.(low print volume) in case ACS is chosen for default copy mode. In case timer setting of sleep is short. (Detail of measures) 1. Reduce image stabilization when returning from sleep mode

When installing applicable FW, the image stabilization will not be carried out when the MFP returns from sleep mode in case less than eight hours has passed from last Image stabilization. However, within eight hours, only auto color registration correction process is carried out if temperature in P/H changes at two degrees or more. This process is a part of image stabilization and it is done in 4 seconds, the detail of behavior of MFP shows following table.

2. Implement the choice to suspend color IU life stop

Life counter value, which the MFP stops running, can be suspended by the choice in service mode. IU replacement massage is suspended to be displayed as well. Life value

3. Implement the choice for new ACS mode

Behavior of MFP under ACS mode can be changed by the software setting “Service Mode” “System Setting 2” “Software SW setting”: “Switch Number 50”, HEX 00 01, and main SW OFF/ON When it is chosen, the MFP works as doing for BW copying at the beginning of Job without driving color IU. <REMARK>

* In case that color original is copied, first copy time takes extra a few seconds in order to make the IU ready for color print.

* In case, mixed original (ex. monochrome, color, monochrome and color), machine works as color print from the first color original.
