Deaths.-In 126 great towns, including London, therewas no death from smallpox or enteric fever, 1 (0) fromscarlet fever, 3 (0) from whooping-cough, 7 (0) frommeasles, 21 (0) from diphtheria, 35 (5) from diarrhoeaand enteritis under 2 years, and 6 (0) from influenza.The figures in parentheses are those for London itself.
There was 1 fatal case of enteric fever in Greater London. Liver-pool reported 5 deaths from diarrhoea.
The number of stillbirths notified during the week was253 (corresponding to a rate of 43 per thousand totalbirths), including 27 in London.

Sale of StrychnineAn amendment of the Poisons Rules which took effect on
Aug. 26 removes the ban on the sale of strychnine for killingmoles. Since January, 1936, the sale of strychnine for purposesother than medicinal has been prohibited, but 4 oz. may nowbe sold to a person producing written authority from a countywar agricultural committee.
Dr. J. W. Hulme has been appointed assistant deputycoroner for the county of London (northern district). Dr.Hulme is a member of the Middle Temple.
The King has given Dr. W. P. Kennedy permission to wearthe insignia of the fourth class of the order of Al Rafidainconferred on him by the King of Iraq in recognition of hisservices as professor of physiology at the Iraqi Royal Collegeof Medicine.

Hospitals DayThe combined flag day in aid of the London hospitals will

Helmets and Masks for Doctors
Medical practitioners may now apply through their localmedical war committee for steel helmets and civilian-dutyrespirators. A helmet will cost 7s. and a respirator 7s. 6d.,and application should be made before Sept. 14. The Ministerof Health is also issuing helmets and respirators to hospitalstaffs, midwives and district nurses.
Socialist Medical Association
A branch of this association is now being formed in Glasgow.Membership is open to doctors, dentists, students, nurses andpharmacists. The first meeting will be held on Sunday,Sept. 8, at 7 P.M., at 25, Burnbank Gardens. Glasgow, N.W.,and all who are interested are invited to attend.
