Giuseppe Arcimboldo Portrait Challenge

https://youtu.be/hrHZL8pp--M

Giuseppe Arcimboldo was born in Milan Italy, in 1527. He is most famous

for his portraits of human heads made up of vegetables, fruit, flowers, and

all sorts of other things.

Create a portraitChoose how you want to create-

1. You might decide to draw a portrait, only instead of drawing eyes, lips and a nose, you will be drawing

vegetables and fruits or flowers as the features on the face! You may use pencil crayons, markers, pastels or

paint to complete the portraits.

2. You might decide to create a collage. Look in the newspaper for food advertisements from the grocery store and cut out pictures of food. Look for ads from

the hardware store and cut out pictures of tools or use pictures of cars to make a face out of. You will need

newspapers, magazines, scissors, and glue

3. You might decide to create a sculpture. You could make a plate portrait! First find yourself a good size

dinner plate. Next start looking around your house for objects that would be great as facial features. Arrange

the objects on the plate until a portrait/face is revealed! If you want to use food please ask your

parents first!

Share your work with me on Class Dojo and I

will hang it up in the virtual halls of Birney on Instagram

atbirney_artist

4. You might decide to use laundry to create a sculpted face. Use a pile of laundry as your palette

of colors. Experiment with folding, twisting,

and organizing your clothes to create a face.

What materials are you going to use to create your Arcimboldo-inspired artwork?

I can’t wait to see the face you create!

Old Black Fly

We will practice a steady beat and

create a new text for a melody.

Go to the link listed below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1naBC6jvjc

Keep a steady beat as you listen to the story song.

Did you notice that the old black fly went through all the

letters in the alphabet?

Using the first letter of your name, write a sentence

describing what the old black fly did or where he went

using the first letter of your name.

Draw a picture to go with the sentence that you

created and send a copy to me. I would love to put all the pictures together to create a new story song

about the Adventures of Old Black Fly at Birney

Elementary School.

Be creative!

Fifty Nifty United States Part 1

Challenge yourself! Can you say the names of all

50 States in alphabetical order from memory? Every year I issue this challenge to Upper Grade level students. Can you meet the challenge?

Watch the You Tube video, “Fifty Nifty United States” by

Ray Charles. As you are listening, write the names of

each state on a sheet of paper.

https://www.schooltube.com/media/Fifty+Nifty+United+S

tates/1_mngdvfxg

This week you can memorize from “Alabama” through “Nevada”. Take your time and sing a few states at a

time, then turn your paper over and see if you can sing

without looking.

When you have learned the song, try to locate each state

on a map of the United States as you sing.

Time yourself. Can you sing all the states within one minute from memory?

Record yourself and send a copy to me through email or Class Dojo. I can't wait to see

how much you learned!
