Hello all. As you know we’re nearing the end of the year and that means your chances to get into the TOC is getting smaller. We have 3 more events before the TOC. Heading into next year we will be adopting a new tournament schedule. New tournament schedule will be available soon so please be on the lookout for that.

We also want to address the tournament no-shows. Please make sure to let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot make your schedule time. No shows can be subject to paying their green fees for the missed event. Please be sure to communicate with us if you will not be attending. I’m fairly good with reading/responding to emails so please be sure to let me know.

Thank you all for the continued support! Let’s end the year on a great note and prepare for team play to start the year. November 9th - Royal Cup November 23rd - Turkey Shoot December 7th - Booze Shoot/Last Chance December 14th - Tournament of Champions

2020 World Handicap System

Effective January 1, 2020 there will be a new World Handicap System.

A few of the changes: a.  Your index will be updated daily. b.  The maximum score of a hole to be posted will be The Par of the Hole, plus and

handicap strokes applied on that hole, plus an additional 2 strokes. c.  Maximum Handicap Index is 54.0 d.  Minimum holes required to post a score is 14 holes.

There are five significant changes to the Handicap Index calculation. 1.  The minimum number of scores required to establish is 3. 2.  The number of differentials used, they will only use the best 8 scores out of the last 20

scores to establish an index. 3.  A playing Conditions Calculation. 4.  An Exceptional score reduction that considers all scores. A score differential which is at

least 7.0 strokes better than the player’s handicap. 5.  The addition of a Soft Cap and Hard Cap to limit upward movement.

For more information go to World Handicap System (WHS) Hub on SCGA.ORG

From the Treasurer---Ah, deja vous all over again...the goblins and ghosts have finally ceased their barrage of attacks on our door in search of their youthful dental disasters. Those raucous "munchkins" have replaced the serene visions of tall sea pines and Spanish moss lining the fairways of Hilton Head Islands magnificent golf courses. Yes, again we ventured into parts unknown, in the name of research only, and at no expense to the clubs continued "solvency", at $14,307.00. Our query, to find venues worthy of "roadie" acclaim, aside from our recent contests in the Mojave Valley. This years target, Harbor Town Golf Club at Sea Pines Resort, took us 6000 miles east from last years Kauai with it's tropical locales, beautiful sunsets, and very wet weather when it decided to rain. Hilton Head accommodated us with unseasonably pleasant weather, heavily wooded forests, and numerous ponds, lakes, and swamplands to house any number of camouflaged critters and alligators, which, to our disappointment, we didn't see. We did dodge a hurricane or two...but, what the heck, they are "in season" after all and provide golfers with many "Plan B's" and explanations for errant shots . We chose three local courses...our prime destination course, Harbor Town Links, was closed for over seeding and not playable at that time...golfers luck? But, our three other suggested courses turned out to be a fine test for playing on Bermuda greens, fairways, and rough...very, very deep Bermuda rough, surrounded by luxurious homes and lots of pine straw from those very old and tall Sea Pines. I think the consensus of our four players...we enjoyed Oyster Reef Golf Course, our third test in 5 days, the best of the bunch, primarily for it's playability and overall condition. Dolphin Head, and Palmetto Hall Plantation also offered nervous nice conditions, excellent but somewhat slow greens, in flat wooded settings, with many water features to keep your interest and sometimes your ball...but thats golf on the road. Enjoy it if you can! And speaking of golf on the road, 40 golfing gladiators gathered for a two day tournament at "Avi" and Laughlin Ranch resorts to test their skills at Royal Vista's 35th Annual Laughlin Invitational. The weather was a bit "breezy" at times and could have hindered a fine shot struck from finding a suitable resting place...the "rub of the green" some say. Ultimately, "it always evens out", "blind draw will save us", "saving my shots for when we really need them", and possibly," We're on a roll, every ball is in play, lets make some of them count", were the words of the day. With over $5400 in skins, pins and wins paid out to the various winners, there must have been some good play factor into the equation somewhere. I think Mssrs. Mitchell, Cohen, Gaither, White, and Canty all joined the $300 Club, with Vince having a hefty chunk ahead of his pretenders. The also rans of Messrs.Lykins, Devaney, Miles, Walker, and C. Ozols made a strong play by themselves pocketing over $200 each in their quest to be the best. We had another 6 players receive over $100 in winnings. Considering the windy conditions, and all the "woulda, coulda, shouldas", it was great that 31 of 40 players collected something in wins, pins, or skins. Of last note, the success of this tournament depends on many people working to make it happen. Don Bales our programming guru, gets major "props" for expeditiously tallying the scores and finding the winners, while Tim gets him the resources he needs to do this. Ron Gross volunteered his house, time and financial skills to figure payouts and house the treasury under armed guard so no winner would leave without their just rewards. Mark kept everyone on task and resolved issues so the overall process got pulled together in a timely and efficient manner. Thank you gentlemen. The Village may be small, but most of the players left with a smile and a few extra bucks in their pockets when it was all over.

Doug Peterson - Treasurer
