BIOGRAFÍA DE JOSÉ DE SAN MARTÍN Don Jose de San Martin was born in Yapeyú Matorras (Argentina) on February 25, 1778. His parents were Juan de San Martin and Gregoria Matorras. At age nine he traveled to Spain and study at a military school. He fought against the Moors, French and Portuguese. Since 1808 he fought against Napoleon's army that invaded Spain, but in 1812 sailed to London, then to Buenos Aires to fight for American independence. In 1813, he led the Grenadiers regiment defeated the royalists at the Battle of San Lorenzo. From 1814-1817 he organized the Army of the Andes, with which he crossed the Andes and achieved independence from Chile with the victory of Maipú, in 1818. Since 1808 he fought against Napoleon's army that invaded Spain, but in 1812 sailed to London, then to Buenos Aires to fight for American independence. In 1813, he led the Grenadiers regiment defeated the royalists at the Battle of San Lorenzo.

From 1814-1817 he organized the Army of the Andes, with which he crossed the Andes and achieved independence from Chile with the victory of Maip, in 1818. In 1820 he arrived in Peru, and in July 1821 proclaimed its independence in Lima. He ruled Peru until September 1822, but was unable to decisively defeat the viceroy La Serna. He retired to leave the way Simon Bolivar.

He arrived in Buenos Aires in 1823 and the following year enrumb Europe. He settled in France and died in Boulogne-sur-Mer, on August 17, 1850.

BIOGRAFA DE JOS DE SAN MARTNDon Jos de San Martn Matorras naci en Yapey (Argentina), el 25 de febrero de 1778. Sus padres fueron Juan de San Martn y Gregoria Matorras. A los nueve aos viaj a Espaa y estudio en un colegio militar. Combati contra moros, franceses y portugueses.

Desde 1808 luch contra el ejrcito napolenico que invadi Espaa, pero en 1812 se embarc a Londres, y luego a Buenos Aires para luchar por la independencia americana. En 1813, lider el regimiento Granaderos a Caballo que derrot a los realistas en la batalla de San Lorenzo.

De 1814 a 1817 organiz el Ejrcito de los Andes, con el cual cruz la Cordillera y logr la independencia de Chile con la victoria de Maip, en 1818. En 1820 lleg al Per, y en julio de 1821 proclam su independencia en Lima. Gobern el Per hasta setiembre de 1822, pero no pudo derrotar definitivamente al virrey La Serna. Se retir para dejarle el camino libre a Simn Bolvar.

Lleg a Buenos Aires en 1823 y al ao siguiente enrumb a Europa. Se instal en Francia y falleci en Boulogne-sur-Mer, el 17 de agosto de 1850.
