BIOGRAPHY . UNITED STATES AIR FORCE . LIEUTENANT COLONEL KEVIN J. STEVENS Lt Col Kevin J. Stevens is currently assigned to the Joint Forces Staff College as a military faculty member. He is a master air battle manager with over 4000 flight hours and 400 combat hours in the E-3A (NATO) and E-3B/C AWACS and the E-8C JSTARS aircraft in OPERATIONS DESERT STORM-PROVEN FORCE, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. Additionally he represented the French Air component as Chief, Strategy Plans in the NATO Combined Air Operations Center during OPERATION UNIFIED PROTECTOR. Born and raised in Salina, Kansas, his Air Force career commenced after he graduated from the University of Kansas in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, commissioning through Officer Training School in October 1986. Throughout 25 years of service, he has served in a broad range of academic, operational, joint, combined and international staff positions in the areas of education, training, weapons/tactics, and operational requirements at the squadron, group, wing and college levels. Involuntarily separated in December 1992 as part of the reduction-in-force, he completed a master’s degree while working as a technical writer/computer-based training specialist to the Navy’s E-6A

Lt Col Kevin J. Stevens is currently assigned to the Joint Forces Staff College as a military faculty member. Involuntarily separated in December 1992 as part of the reduction-in-force, he completed a master’s degree while working as a technical writer/computer-based training specialist to the Navy’s E-6A TACAMO aircraft flight-crew training at McDonnell Douglas Training Systems, Norman, Oklahoma. In 1994 he became a packaging equipment engineer for Zellerbach Packaging in Hillside, Illinois and then equipment program manager of the Tulsa office. In May 1996, Lt Col Stevens re-entered service as an active-duty guardsmen in the Southeast Air Defense Sector, Florida Air National Guard, Tyndall AFB, Florida. Recalled to active duty in 2000 after Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, he was the first Director of Operations of the NATO AWACS Air Crew Training Squadron. Moving to the Air Force Wargaming Institute at the College of Aerospace Doctrine Research and Education (now Lemay Center) he ran ACSC’s capstone Joint Air Exercise wargame. Returning to fly in 2005 on the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft, he became chief of mission crew standardization and evaluation of training for the wing and operations group. In 2010 the USAF Chief of Staff handpicked Lt Col Stevens to be the first exchange officer to the French Air Force’s Center for the Simulation and Preparation of Air and Space Operations (CASPOA), a NATO Center of Excellence, where he led the way for training and education. Lt Col Stevens is married to the former Denise Stewart of Montgomery, Alabama. They have a 12 year-old daughter Katie.
