Introduction
Building BIM guidelines are important documents that provide project participants,
be they designers, procurement and supply chain professionals, the requisite details
and basis to plan and implement BIM for any construction project. These guidelines
chart the processes, procedures, responsibilities and "contractual" basis for BIM
adoption.
Without BIM guidelines, project participants would be making a journey "blindly" i.e.
without a proper roadmap that is convenient, readily understood and applicable.
Objectives Encouraged by the success of last November's Conference & Exhibition, "Future-
proofing the Professionals - Meeting the BIM Challenge Head On," the QS Division of
the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia is organizing a a sequel, "Building BIM
Guidelines and Responsibility Matrix" workshop which will deliberate on the actual
requirements for BIM implementation at the project level. Project stakeholders from
the various disciplines will have the opportunity to gather and deliberate on the
essentials to be incorporated in a Malaysian version of the Building BIM Guidelines.
The workshop will provide a platform that will pave the way for closer collaboration
in BIM amongst designers, quantity as well as supply chain professionals.
Who should participate? This workshop will be of interest to clients, designers, quantity and supply chain
professionals & facilities end-users interested in implementing BIM in their respective
organizations. Understanding the BIM Guidelines will ensure that project stakeholders
do not work in "silos", thereby enhancing understanding of each other's role and
responsibility in BIM implementation. The workshop goes beyond BIM software &
design alone and would be of interest to private developers, government agencies,
architects, civil & structural engineers, mechanical & electrical engineers, quantity
surveyors, contractors, specialist contractors, facilities managers, etc.
