Billy Kiely's 2005 Retro Bird

Billy bought the Bird in March of this year from a local dealer on the Island. The cost was $14,500 and he is

the second owner. It only has 54,000 miles on it, but it came with no hard top. He had said to me that he al-

ways wanted a Thunderbird.

SEASON’S GREETINGS

DUES ARE DUE IN DECEMBER

This is a great time of year with the Holidays approaching. Spending time with family and friends, enjoying the ambience of this time of year, and

for me being vertical and to be able to talk about it. As you read on you will see this issue is filled with all sorts of stuff. „New this‟, „Old that.‟

Read on and enjoy:

No Holiday Party: Since there will be no holiday party in January, some changes are coming for 2020. There will be a club meeting in January

unless the Thunderbird Fairy finds us a location for our annual party. Trying to be the eternal optimist, I don‟t think that is going to happen. For

January we will have our monthly meeting. Same goes for February, and trying to be as creative as I can for March we will a pizza meeting. With

Bertucci‟s gone, I will find a venue where we can have our meeting, and the club will buy pizza and it will be our annual detail meeting session.

New Member: Welcome aboard Billy Kiely from Bethpage with his 2005 Anniversary Edition Retro Bird. As I mentioned in our last Bird Talk

that we met Billy at the Mustang show in Wading River and he won gold. Plus, front cover this issue……

Paradise Diner: On Saturday November 23rd we discovered that the Paradise Diner where we hold our indoor meeting has closed. The sort of

good news is that there is no club meeting in December. We will be searching for another venue for our indoor meeting but I would like some

suggestions from our membership. If you have a suggestion please reach out to me.

Show Your Colors

Club Sweatshirts & Hats: Yes, it‟s been awhile since we ordered club sweatshirts and hats but with fall around the corner this is a perfect oppor-

tunity to order one of each. They are light weight sweatshirts with our club logo on the left chest. The cost is $20.00, and right now I do not need

money, but I do need your sizes. Call, e -mail or text me your size. The color is ash which is a lighter grey and the hats will

most likely be black and adjustable and about $15.00.

VTCI

Vintage Thunderbird Classic International Club: As our mast head notes we are a chapter of the VTCI, and proud of it. For me, I have been a

member for a long time, and have been to two of their events over the years. Both in New Jersey, one this past August. The question is why join

and be a part of a great national club? The answer is simple, and let me explain Lucy. Some of the articles and info you get is priceless. If you

want to know more about your Bird, just reach out to them. They have many tech people covering all the years that the car was produced, and for

me to go to an event sponsored by them is outstanding.

In this issue and moving forward is an application for the club, and I would suggest you sign up.

Bond – James Bond: In the current issue of Automobile magazine it notes that a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 sold for $6,385.000 at Auction at RM

Sotheby‟s. This was the promotional car used to launch the movie Thunderball. Stirred but not shaken….

Thunderbird/Ford Show Update/Sunday, July 2020: There will be a Thunderbird/Ford Show next year, thanks to Steve Siben. With the 2019

show being such a great success, it will be a challenge for all of us to outdo ourselves, but we will. Trust me……..

Sunday, December 8, 2019/Yaphank Vets Home: For those of you who want to participate, we are meeting at 8:30 a.m. SHARP at the Pump-

kin Patch Nursery just off exit 66 of the LIE. The club will make its usual donation, but you can donate on your own. Any type of clothing. Get

creative: Pajamas, shirts, jackets, towels, underwear, sweatshirts, etc. I usually stay within the large to extra large sizes for both men and women.

Just to go over directions again: LIE east to exit 66, make a left at the traffic light, and about ¼ mile on the right is the Pumpkin Patch Nursery.

Just pull over and wait. The Veterans Home is only a short distance away on the right.

President Message Continued from Page 3

Another Barf Update

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. Since we are not a chapter anymore of the ITC or members it is sometimes difficult to

get current info on what‟s going on behind closed doors with the Barf and the ITC. So I just received copies of pages from the current Script,

their newsletter from Skip Panowitz who is still an ITC member, and is one of our good guys for the All Thunderbird Alliance. Skip also men-

tions that the newsletter is consistently running two months behind for delivery.

First: Let‟s start with the annual Schatz award which went to his wife this year. If you remember in one of my previous updates about the call that

his wife would be the next to receive the award. So who is next for 2020? Most likely he will give himself the award again. I have said this in the

past and saying it again, there is not a big enough shovel to feed his ego. You cannot make this stuff up….

Next, Jim Rugg from Wisconsin tried to renew his membership in the ITC because he heard rumors that Barf was stepping down, and you could

not run for any positions in the club unless you are a member. You guessed it. They send his check back and rejected him with no explanation.

Dues are due in December: Shortly, you will be receiving our annual dues letter from Mr. Fleming. Please fill out the data sheet, and return

everything to him with your check for $29.00. Remember you can donate additional monies to our charity fund, and feel free to do so. Please

don‟t forget to fill out your Birthday Month line on the form. There will be no increase in dues for 2019. For your convenience in replying, a

self addressed envelope will be enclosed.

2020 Calendar: Our 2020 club calendar is included in this issue. Some TBA‟s because we are not sure what‟s going on with certain events.

After the President‟s Council meeting in February, we will fine tune the event and calendar page. We are always looking for suggestions for our

outdoor meetings and events.

.

LITC Annual Board Meeting/Sunday, November 30, 2019: The board met on Saturday, November 30th for breakfast and discussion in re-

gards to 2020. In attendance were Art Fleming, Paul Rosina, Ken Weinberg, and yours truly. We updated our 2020 events and meeting listings

which are in this issue of Bird Talk. We also discussed the turmoil that‟s going on with the International Thunderbird Club its current administra-

tion, and discussed our show dates for next year, which could be Sunday June 28th and rain date of July 5th.

Lastly, we will continue to donate monies to the Veterans shelter – The Veterans Place, in Yaphank.

Be Safe and You‟re Welcome!

GROUP LIFT PURCHASE Is anyone interested in buying a 4-post lift for their garage? I am refurbishing my garage, and have done some research on lifts. I have settled on the Backyard Buddy 7,000lb.

Standard Lift. BYB can store 2 cars in the space of one, requiring just 9' wide, 16' long, 9' ceiling height, and a 120V outlet to store one car above another car, where the lower car is

60" at its highest point or less (e.g. my 1970 Boss 302 on top of my 2013 Boss 302, for ex-ample). The lift is made in Warren, OH, has the best construction & lift locking system in my

opinion, offers jacks, drip pans, and wheels for movement, and offers the best warranty I can find. Go to their website & see for yourself www.backyardbuddy.com. It is also probably the

most expensive 4-post lift at $4,595. But I want one! I would like to assemble a group of 10 or more car guys living here on Long Island who

would like to buy this lift this summer. Then I intend to take the order to the All Ford Nation-als (June 2-4), where Backyard Buddy will have a booth. My theory is in addition to the

$300 - 400 show special, I can negotiate a volume price delivered to one "area". By negoti-ating a group purchase discount added to the reduced freight and the show special, I am go-

ing to try to knock $ 500 - 1,000 off the standard retail price of the lift.

Please realize (1) You will still have to pay someone to install the lift at your home ($500 -

1,000), (2) You will have to modify your garage door tracks to clear the lift (~$200), (3) There is no guarantee of the final price; I can only try to get the $1,000 discount I seek. But

10 units should get us some discount; 20+ units will entice the manufacture to give a sub-stantial discount. As an additional incentive, I would invite the Backyard Buddy Marketing

team to come to Long Island and talk to / interview those who participated for their advertis-ing testimonials.

Please contact me by phone or email (below) with any questions, giving me your name, your

email address, phone, and address as confirmation you are willing to spend the necessary funds in June-July. Thank you!
