Bluegrass Banjo Jam Survival Skills: If youre looking to gain more confidence playing with others, this is for you! Topics include the role of the banjo in a jam, what you should play to accompany others, using your ear to hear chord changes and learning to follow the guitar, vamping, roll patterns and up-the-neck backup, using fill-in licks, negotiating kick-offs and endings, and using the capo to play in all keys. Get ready for the summer festival season with this practical and fun workshop designed for all level players! Working Up Scruggs-Style Banjo Solos: One of the greatest challenges for bluegrass banjo players at all levels is finding the melody on the fingerboard and choosing just the right rolls and
licks to create their own legitimate sounding, driving bluegrass solos. Bill will show you how to choose a key for a solo, how to find the melody notes, and hell reveal how melodies are related to chord progressions. Hell then move on to show how roll choices can enhance the effectiveness of solos as well as teach many basic licks that come up again and again in Scruggs greatest solos, taking you through a step-by-step process unlocking the secrets of great soloing and improvising. Bill will also present an analysis of several classic Earl Scruggs solos, showing how the master himself used roll patterns and licks to create his signature sound.
