Bihar is situated in the eastern part of India with the Himalayan Kingdom of
Nepal to its north and the states of Orissa, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh andMadhya Pradesh flanking its sides. It is today home of more than 90 million
Indians. The state is endowed with an enviable mineral resources base, has
some of the finest industries, is country's one of the largest producers of
fruit and the second largest producer of vegetables.

second most populous in the country has been slow to harness its natural

The cold weather commences early in November and comes to an end in the
middle of March. The hot weather then sets in and lasts till the middle ofJune. Soon after this the rainy season commences and continues till the end
of September, the beginning of this season occurs when a storm from the
Bay of Bengal passes over Bihar.

The new State Jharkhand formerly a part of Bihar state, was formed on
November 15th, 2000 with Ranchi as its capital. Jharkhand is the 28th stateof the Indian Union. The districts are Garwa, Palamu, Chatra, Koderma,
Hazaribagh, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Sahibganj, Dhanbad,
Bokaro, Ranchi, Lohardagga, Gumla, West Singhbhum and East
Singhbhum.

plateau and Santhal Pargana and has distinct cultural traditions. This area in
and around the districts of Chotanagpur and Santhal Parganas was formerly
Southern Bihar and is thickly wooded and consists of a succession of hills.
