ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
GOVERNING BODY
Bihar Foundation is an initiative of the Government of Bihar to realise the dream of a 'Better Bihar' through the participation of Non Resident Biharis (NRB), Non Resident Indians (NRI), People of Indian Origin (PIO) and others. The Foundation endeavours to unite Biharis and form local Chapters of NRBs in regions which have substantial population of people of Bihar origin. Policy reforms undertaken by the administration has enabled the people of Bihar to embrace a better and brighter future. The Bihar turnaround has made the world turn around. Global economy watchers like the World Bank, Newsweek, Economist, just to name a few, have gone gaga over the Bihar revival saga. Even the staunchest sceptic today, has no choice, but to appreciate the growth story, Bihar has so diligently authored in a very brief span of time.
The State, which has always served a rich platter of heritage, now proudly boasts of a menu comprising growth garnished with justice, prosperity steeped in peace. The sixteen percent-plus growth figure is a mere mathematical index of the progress this state has made. The real change has been manifest in the sense of security and well-being, the gentry of Bihar has experienced. While the hospitals, roads and bridges have witnessed the more tangible change, it has been the cultural renaissance and the joie de vivre of the people at large, that has silently but surely made the change universally perceptible.
Bihar and its people today are happy and proud. We have proven, and now we want to show, that worldwide, we are second to none.
I hope that your interest in the development of Bihar remains unabated and would like to assure you that we shall be working overtime to see that your ideas are fructified in the near future.
Bihar needs your good wishes and active co-operation. Remember – together we can, and we will, change the face of Bihar.

CEO SPEAK
Biharis are proud of their land
and passionate about their
sense of cultural identity. It has
protected our sense of unity
and cultural integrity through
years of widespread dispersal
and migration to all the corners
of the earth. The Bihari
Diaspora clings desperately to
their ethnic roots and tenuous
sense of bond with the
motherland. As a people, this
f e r v e n t f r a t r i - f o c a l
commitment is undoubtedly
one of our greatest strengths.
An overseas community can
and does serve as an important
'bridge' to access knowledge,
expertise, resources and
markets for the development of
the State.
Bihar's engagement with its
Diaspora is symbiotic-the
strands of both sides of the
relationship equally important
to create a resilient and robust
bond. To engage with the
Diaspora in a sustainable and
mutually rewarding manner
across the economic, social
and cultural space is at the
heart of the policy of the
F o u n d a t i o n . To c r e a t e
conditions, partnerships and
institutions that will best
enable Bihar to connect with its
Diaspora comprehensively is
central to all our programmes
and activities.
CHAPTERS
OPENING A NEW CHAPTER
JOIN US
Chapters are the extended arms of the Foundation
through which the government is trying to embrace its
migrated citizens. The work of Chapters across the
globe would be to make a significant impact in
spreading enthusiasm for the Bihar Foundation
activities, growing and nurturing localised support, and
sharing ideas. Chapters comprise of volunteers who
- promote public awareness of the Bihar Foundation,- serve as a local resource in Foundation activities,- create a positive image about Bihar and work for its
development.
We're planning to establish a Chapter in almost every
part of the country and all important locations arround
the world. If you are interested in creating a local
Chapter, and your city or location is unrepresented, we
can help guide you through the founding process by
helping you draft bylaws, answering questions about
what the Foundation expects from a Chapter. A
Friendship Charter is signed between the parent body
and the local group (Individuals / Associations / NGOs /
Trusts). An Executive Committee of the local Chapter
acts as a bridge between the members and the parent
body of the Foundation.
If you love Bihar and wish to contribute in its
development, please volunteer at your nearest Chapter
or contact us. We'd love to hear from you.
Register with us at http://members.biharfoundation.in.
You will get opportunity to interact and socialise with
other Biharis from around the world.
TRACE YOUR ROOTSBihar, the land of your
ancestors, remembers you.
The Bihar Foundation,
under the government's
initiative called
“Trace the Roots”,
helps the Bihari Diaspora
in tracing their cultural
roots and ancestral homes.
BONDING
Products & ServicesWe actively brand the public's image of products and services
from each district and help consumers proactively seek products from their place-of-origin. Bhagalpuri Silk, Madhubani Painting, Patna Rice, Shahi Litchi of Muzaffarpur etc. are
some of the products that we promote to the outside
world.
Imagine France without Fashion, Germany without automotive excellence or Japan without consumer electronics. There's no arguing that the image we have of another country or place says a lot about how we view it as a tourist destination, a place to invest or a source of consumer goods. The Bihar Foundation is working on strategies to spruce up brand image of Bihar with the help of its strong Diaspora living outside the State – both in India and abroad.
Culture, Heritage & TourismBihar - the cradle of Hinduism, the
incubator of Sufism, the birthplace of Buddhism, Jainism and tenth Guru of Sikhs
has remained unbelievable for the whole world in every sphere. Bihar has an abundance of
historical places, places of religious importance, archeological sites and forts, which can be suitably
renovated and opened up for tourism. The Foundation recognises the enormous potential for
tourism development for the State's economy and creates a level of interest in domestic as well as international tourists by organising
various programmes including cultural and food festivals.
PeopleJust as corporate branding
campaigns can raise the morale, team spirit, and sense of purpose of a company's employees, our branding
campaigns provide our people a common sense of purpose and pride – not to mention a
higher sense of giving back to the State and work for its development. In principle, it is
the citizens who stand to gain the most from a successful branding campaign.
The Foundation expects all NRBs to act as our brand
ambassadors.
GovernanceThe Foundation creates
public opinion regarding the level of the State government's
competency and fairness and helps in enhancing individuals' beliefs
about the government, as well as its commitment to issues such as
democracy, justice, poverty and the environment.
GrowthBihar’s GDP has grown by a
stunning 16%, way beyond the definition of 7% growth for a “miracle
economy”. In a World Bank report Bihar was considered to be a better place, much
ahead of the commercial capital, Mumbai, to start business. The Foundation undertake
efforts to promote Bihar a preferred investment destination, branding it as "India's New Investment Destination".
The Foundation also acts as a coordinating agency to
translate project
