GRADE 11’S DIORAMA TRYST
Just when we thought that first semester was epic here comes second semester knocking on our
doors.
Second semester did not see much club day action so Bigkis, in cooperation with the supportive
and amazing teachers of Understanding Culture, Society and Politics (UCSP) decided to hold Grade 11’s
club activity by launching an intraschool diorama competition entitled Nagkakaisang Daigdig:
Strengthening Unity in Diversity among Nations. This (literally) big ILS was only launched in the
students’ respective rooms last year. Today’s Grade 11, having fewer sections than the previous year,
paved the idea for a contest to be held at the school’s penthouse on February 7th 2018. The 29 sections
were divided into AM and PM sessions per teacher’s discretion. The country assigned is also determined
by the UCSP instructor. Below is the original* table of nations:
*apparently, there were changes applied to this list as manifested in the next segments.
An event without something that does not go the organizers’ way is like salt without pepper.
Morning of February 7th was the opening of the sportsfest, a big yearly activity of the school that requires
100% attendance from the students, faculty and staff. After a few chat exchanges, the UCSP instructors
decided to cancel the morning presentation but proceed with the PM session. The morning presenters are
to be rescheduled by their respective instructors during their regular UCSP classes. This plan worked out

fine and the Social Science club was able to produce three victors in time for the SHS Expo on March 9th
2018 wherein the winning dioramas will be exhibited at a specific room.
A GRADE 12 SHOWDOWN
The stage is set for Grade 12’s last hurrah at STI College Caloocan. The expo, a first of its kind for
SHS, is a two day culminating activity showcasing the best of the best, the pride of each strand!
ABM – food stalls
ICT – mobile app
DIG – short films
GAS – museum
STEM – capstone project
HOPER – hotel showroom
TOPER – tourist spot booth
CULINARY – catering set up
Since an expo is set for Grade 12, clubs did not have any activity for the said grade level. Hence, we
will be featuring three sections that comprise a good percentage of registered members.
THE DIORAMA GAME HAS LEVELED UP
Grade 11’s diorama contest aims to push the students’ ingenuity and harness their section’s
camaraderie. The section must be able to showcase the assigned country’s culture, society and politics by
creating miniatures that highlight these Social Science constructs.
If last year was remarkable, this year was a blast! From LED lights to interactive elements, the club
cannot wait to roll this project out next year and raise the bar a bit higher.
For now, let us take a look at some of the diorama entries and marvel at how the STI SHS Grade 11
students were able to pull it off:
4
HO102’s China is a Chinese village in the making.
Anyeong Haseyo to TOU102’s South Korea.
5
Picture perfect! TOU101’s interpretation of the land of the rising sun, Japan!
Towering in the Southeast Asian sky is STEM104’s Malaysia.
6
Sawadeeka is the sweet greeting of ABM103 and its flawless rendition of Thailand.
ICT106 has brought the enigmatic nation of Morocco on campus.
7
Lo and behold the land of the pharaoh – STEM101’s Egypt.
Off to South America this time. This is ABM101’s Peru.
8
Before we reveal this year’s winners of Nagkakaisang Daigdig, this contest opened an
opportunity for STEM103 to be included in the expo as STEM Grade 12’s (rightful) centerpiece. Special
shoutout to Ms. Ria Orolfo, Math club moderator for giving these kids a chance to have a taste of “expo
life” through their diorama.
This is STEM103’s the Netherlands:
STEM’s centerpiece is Grade 11’s diorama. An arena with retractable roof? Moving windmills? Moving
barriers? Elements submerged in water? Lit? CHECK. First photo was during the diorama contest.

Now, we proudly present the top three of the diorama competition. A 60-point rubric was
allotted for the diorama itself, 30 points for the presentation and 10 points for the blog entry of the
students for a total of 100 points. The diorama contest does not only serve as the club’s Grade 11
activity but also UCSP’s big ILS for fourth quarter.
Landing at third place, garnering an average of 93 points is DIG101’s New Zealand:
At day…
With the sheeps.
10
At night.
From Oceania, we travel to an island off the coast of Africa with HO101’s Madagascar garnering
a total score of 95.
More than a film, Madagascar is a sanctuary.
11
Take a closer look. Captivating…
12
The winner of the diorama contest was able to collect a total of 95.23 points. From Africa to the old
world… Culinary Arts 102’s France.

French president since 1722), the iconic Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, Louvre Museum and Parc des Princes,
the home of French football champions Paris Saint-Germain. The city of love in Caloocan!
Below are the photos taken when Team France presented at the library during the Expo on March 9th
2018. Basically, presentation-wise it was the same drill as February 7th with the lights off and La
Marseillaise on the background. Present were SHS Principal Mrs. Josephine Daffon, SHS Asst. Principal
Mrs. Edita de Guzman, Accountancy Dean Mr. Remigio Vitan and IT Dean Mr. Kerwin Sevilla.

THE INVISIBLE CREST WORN WITH PRIDE
The expo has spoken volumes about the Grade 12 students of STI College Caloocan particularly the
Social Science club members. They may have been in the expo with their respective strands but club-wise
they have carried the crest of Bigkis with utmost pride.
DIG202 has 12 registered members thus, it is only proper to acknowledge this section’s ingenuity
with their expo entry, short film.
Short films: Playlist of Death, Romulo, Courier and The Climb
17
A solid shout out is likewise deserved by CUL201 with eight registered members. The theme of
their catering service is 18th birthday. Simply spellbinding!
How elegant can this table setting be?
18
Give away samples. Yup, these are Grade 12 student organizers – imagine what these kids can achieve in five
or 10 years?
19
The highlight of Bigkis however is GA202, the section with the most number of registered
members at 19. GA202’s entry is a display of Mindanao’s beauty through the arts. It has bested booths
from GA201 Luzon (four registered members) and GA203 (eight registered members).
GA202’s Singkil (Pilipinas Got Talent material!)
These GA202 curators are from SocSci club. Cheers to (clockwise from left to right) Ryan Bautista, Shaira Palma,
Iza Jane Vargas and Christine Datan.
20
Art is aesthetic. Art is utilitarian. Vinta as GA202’s centrepiece.
21
GA202 slayed it from the opening dance number to the museum tour. How fitting is it to be stationed at the lobby in
time for the guests’ arrival. Indeed, the students have given everyone an experience.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
On February 24th 2018, select students were awarded for their excellent contribution to the club.
Although some were unable to attend, we would like to raise our glasses to those who were able to grace
the event despite their hectic Grade 12 schedule.

Ms. Tayco with Ryan Bautista (GA202), Charles Santos (ICT211), Kristine Erejer and Melchorica Herrera
both from TOU201.
The Social Science club or any SHS club for that matter have certainly experienced road blocks
along the way. It was mentioned earlier that for the diorama it was the schedule conflict with the
sportsfest. For the expo of the General Academic Strand it was miscommunication which resulted to the
museum not having proper dividers aside from the time constraint given that the expo was right after
work immersion defense and their Entrepreneurship culminating activity.
These were the massive ones. There were also challenges in between like what to ask the students
to do in club day with very little time to prepare; survival of the fittest in reserving the sound system;
cascading the information to members and of course, encoding woes (missing names on Oracle, anyone?).
Next school year, we look forward that Bigkis be able to launch bigger projects (please give the
clubs specific club days and room assignments way in advance). The diorama contest will be a staple for
sure. The Philippine Arts best works exhibit will also be in the works. We have been thinking of an STI
SHS Debate Competition on pressing global/local issues, a podcast or documentary about an SHS student
advocacy and a Social Science quiz bee.
Bigkis nevertheless will continue to work hard for its endeavour, its vision of becoming the club
of choice as we strive to make the growing SHS community appreciate oneness in everyone’s
individuality.
Merci! Salamat for all the support and until next academic year!
