Biggest Morning Tea

YAY FORBES NORTH! We raised a total of $278.00 on behalf of the Cancer Council.

A massive thank you to everyone who attended the Biggest Morning Tea last Thursday. It was great to see so many parents, carers, friends and family members involved and donating to this wonderful cause. In total we raised $278 which will assist The Cancer Council with future research. It was fantastic to see our school Wiradjuri choir and Dance group perform high level acts in front of the crowd. Well done to all who participated. All money and plates of food were very much appreciated. We hope to see you all again next year at our annual Biggest Morning Tea.

HEALTHY HAROLD IS COMING TO FORBES NORTH

He will be here from Wednesday 19th June to Tuesday 25th June. We thank Northparkes Mine again for supporting the LEV visit to our school. For those who have not paid the VSC the cost to participate is $5.00 per student, payable to the school by no later than Friday June 7th. A note was sent home yesterday with a merchandise order form attached.

From the Principal…..

Due to concerns raised by parents regarding our Making IT Happen computer program, through which parents and carers of students in Years 4-6 have the option to purchase a laptop device for their students through the school, a full review of the program is currently underway. The review will be coordinated by a working party consisting of the Principal, two staff members (Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Fliedner), two P&C representatives (Danielle Percival and Karen Knight) and members of the Communication and Technology Portfolio of our Student Parliament.

All interested parties will be able to have input into the review process through surveys and information sessions. The following link will take you to a webpage with our current Making IT Happen policy and procedures, and a copy of the Department’s Student Bring Your Own Device policy and procedures.

https://forbesnth-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/news/2019/5/making-it-happen-policy-and-procedures-review.html

By reading these documents and taking particular note of the key differences between them, we hope you will be well placed to provide input into the development of an updated school policy and procedures.

Have a great week! Steve McAlister Principal

Redcat Soundfields

Following the closure of local facility, Lach Haven, a generous donation was made to Forbes North Public School. Lach Haven served Forbes community and assisted those with disabilities for over 50 years. The legacy they have passed onto Forbes North will assist students across the school following the purchase of Redcat Soundfield Systems.

The Redcat Soundfield System is a high definition microphone and speaker unit designed for the classroom. It delivers intelligible speech that is distributed evenly across the room, so even students who are seated at the back can hear every word the teacher is saying.

The benefit of the Redcat Soundfield Systems in the classroom is that it allows the whole class to be engaged. All students have equal access to the teacher’s direct instruction. Students can hear and understand better which leads to higher learning outcomes.

The Redcat also helps create a calmer learning environment reducing behavioural issues and teacher vocal fatigue.

A huge thank you goes to the out-going Lach Haven committee for distributing surplus funds to our school.

Last week was another busy week of sport here at Forbes North.

Miss Prior took the School PSSA netball team to their knockout round against Middleton PS. Forbes North won with a score 9-1. We then played Forbes Public in a very close game, the lead changed many times but fortunately at the bell Forbes North was ahead in the score 16-14. The netball team will now go on and play the winner of Orange Small Schools and Condobolin.

Mr Young took the rugby league team to Canowindra last week for the PSSA Knockout day. Unfortunately we were defeated in the first game against Forbes Public School, however these boys and girls got a chance to play a second game against Calare Public School and gained a win for the day.

Last Friday was the Lachlan Cross Country at the Forbes Jockey Club. We had 24 Forbes North students attend and run their hearts out at this event. All students were on their best behaviour and represented Forbes North well. We are extremely proud of Halle Rattenbury, Jake Tomlinson,

George Finn and Josiah Klingner who placed in their age group and will attend the western Cross Country Carnival at Geurie on the 12th June.

3/4K have produced a bumper crop of sweet potatoes in the garden!

Then they weighed and measured the length of the sweet potatoes, measured in grams, kilograms, mm and cm that they harvested. What fun we had!!
