BIELSKO-BIAŁA, SILESIA, POLAND
27 JUNE - 3 JULY 2021
Overview
A cornerstone of The Global Leaders Program’s approach to empowering leaders in the arts is a core belief in the power of the artist-innovator and social entrepreneur to make a profoundly positive impact on human lives.
As communities search for concrete solutions to increasingly complex and dynamic social, environmental, and economic challenges — the role of creative entrepreneurs to engage with, promote discourse around, and envision productive paths through these challenges is paramount.
For its Fourth International Innovation Exchange Residency in June and July 2021, arts changemakers from around the world travel to Bielsko-Biała, Poland to work with a dynamic community, region, and country asking itself profound questions about its future.
Members of The Global Leaders Program, together with a range of international Faculty and Advisors representing world-class institutions from Harvard University to the Rome Business School, collaborate with local entrepreneurs across the community of Bielsko-Biała to empower local arts organizations, impact-oriented businesses, and diverse NGOs. GLP international participants also learn from Bielsko-Biała and Poland’s rich traditions, past and present.
Committed to working in alliance with Bielsko-Biała today and in the future, the 2021 GLP Innovation Exchange Residency cultivates rich knowledge exchange between local and international participants, while building powerful connections between Bielsko-Biała’s institutions and professional networks around the world.

IMPACT STREAM IINNOVATIVE THINKING EXCHANGE LABS & FORUMWITH BIELSKO-BIAŁA ENTREPRENEURS
GLP Cohort Members collaborate over the course of the Residency week in a series of activities with local entreprepreneurs aimed at furthering the sustainable development of the town and the surrounding region of Bielsko-Biała. GLP Cohort Members and supporting Faculty apply transferable perspectives on ways to better connect practical problem-solving tools from the arts and humanities to the civic and entrepreneurial development of the community. The GLP group contributes to conversations on how the creative process can drive innovation and civic engagement in everything from education to medicine, from science to law, and from politics to business.
This process of Innovative Thinking Exchange Labs unfolds with GLP Cohort Members breaking into small teams to work hand-in-hand and remotely with a network of local organizations and entrepreneurs to promote creative learning opportunities and increased community impact, while exploring institutional processes within these organizations. These sessions look to better understand the challenges that local organizations are working to address and the processes they can harness to work toward solving these challenges, calling upon critical learnings from The Global Leaders Program curriculum and the shared experience brought together by international perspectives of Cohort Members.
“What could be more important than preparing talented musicians to become the community
changemakers of tomorrow? What could be more exciting than achieving this mission in a way
that allows participants to serve communities around the world?”
— Nigel A. L. Clarke | Minister of Finance of Jamaica

“Bielsko-Biała is a city of active and enterprising people, always ready to take on new challenges
and experiences towards building knowledge. It is a city of hospitable people interested
in sharing their culture, as well as being inspired by other perspectives. It is a community of
hardworking people who built the city’s prosperity over the centuries, and this spirit of enterprise
is shared by those who are building our community today.
For this reason, we are proud to host the 2021 Innovation Exchange Residency of The Global
Leaders Program in Bielsko-Biała. We hope that the presence of the diverse GLP Cohort
Members in our city will add value to their journeys as arts entrepreneurs, showing them new
paths for development and social change. I also believe that the project will become a new
source of inspiration for local partners, organizations, and citizens in our community who join in
the experience, helping them to build Bielsko-Biała as a modern community with a connected
vision to our shared world.”
— Jarosław Klimaszewski | Mayor of Bielsko-Biała
“The residency of The Global Leaders Program and the participation of GLP Cohort Members
in our community, not only as trainers at our projects on the ground, but through their long-term
commitment to the development of our arts project, has been a fundamental contribution to the
growth of the engagement of our students and teachers.”

About The Global Leaders Program
“The Global Leaders Program was a life-changing experience for me. In addition to powerful learning, it provided me with a community of fellow musician entrepreneurs working to pave the way for new opportunities, and helped me to see the value in my diverse interests and background.”
Bradley Powell | 2018 Cohort Canada & Jamaica
“The GLP Innovation Exchange Residency tasked us to discover new solutions to local challenges alongside organization leaders. An epiphany for me was that to move toward social change is to fall in love with the problem as an opportunity to build. We learned how in a complex world, artists can empower others to see choices; to find opportunities where others see dead ends.”
Janielle Beh | 2020 Cohort Australia & Afghanistan
“In The Global Leaders Program I was challenged to think differently, work hard, be authentic, vulnerable to others, and understand my role as a leader. I met amazing people, professionally and personally, and am thankful for all it took to make this experience happen.”
