Stand-Up Paddleboarding originated a long time ago in Polynesia, and since its revival recently in Hawaï, it has become a very popular sport easy for beginners and great for new sensations :

On flat water, the surfer has a higher viewpoint enabling him to appreciate his surroundings; for training or for just quiet easy trips, it can suit all enthusiasts. With stand-up paddling, one’s increased visibility lets one see what is going on all around, such as incoming swell, and take off is much easier than in surf thanks to the paddle which gives propulsion and direction.

The first 11’4 SUP in polyethylene brought Stand-Up Paddling accessible to all, with its quality shape and attractive price.

The 11’4 ACS SUP proved a success from the beginning and has sold in its thousands, making it the new icon of SUP. It is being followed this year by a new technology and three new models, very versatile, suited to all levels.

With the launch of the first ever SUP made from polyethylene, using a quality shape and selling at a tempting price, BIC Sport is recreating the same phenomenon as with the Natural Surf that brought surfing to the masses and became the most popular board in the history of the sport in the process. The BIC Sport Stand-Up Paddle ACS boards have been conceived to make sure you can enjoy flat water as easily as the waves with shapes that have an excellent manoeuvrability/stability ratio. Made from thermoformed polyethylene, they’re aimed at beginner riders just getting into the sport looking for a strong, stable board and wanting to progress to start riding in waves. They’re ideally suited to surf and SUP schools who need strong, easy to use equipment that their students can make rapid progress on. They come with an integral foot pad and carry handle.

10’4’’ ACS SUP

New for 2011, the 10’4’’ ACS is aimed at lighter weight beginners. With the same handling as the bigger 11’4’’, and similarly evenly spread volume giving a unified shape and great versatility, it’s as easy to ride in the flat, where it has superb directional stability, as it is manoeuvrable in small waves.

11’4’’ ACS SUP

The 11’4’’ ACS is designed for beginner and heavier weight riders. It’s got the biggest range of conditions for sailing of any board on the market. Its substantial volume is evenly spread like a longboard, giving it its versatility. On the water it’s got great directional stability whilst retaining excellent manoeuvrability in small waves.

The SUP E-Comp range is good enough to rival most sandwich type construction boards on the mar ket. E-Comp technology, same as used on our surf boards, is 30% stronger than polyester and has similar weight and stiffness advantages as higher end sandwich constructed boards. It’s also hugely resistant to the knocks and bumps that are common in SUP. The E-Comp range is therefore perfectly suited to the performance demands of advanced riders, and is equally well adapted to intermediates. Both new SUP boards come with integral foot pad and carry handle.

Jungle SUP 10’6’’

The new 10’6’’ E-Comp is designed for moderate to light weight riders. It uses the same overall concept as the larger 11’6’’: big, evenly spread volume, good width for good stability, finely balanced rocker and curved outline to make it highly manoeuvrable in small surf. Easy to handle on the flat, light in weight and feel, it’s a highly versatile SUP suitable for a very wide range of conditions.

Jungle SUP 11’6’’

Shaped for heavier weight riders, the new SUP 11’6’’ E-Comp has substantial volume giving great lateral stability. And with the volume evenly spread along the length, its finely balanced rocker and longboard-style outline, it’s a board that’s easy to handle on the flat stuff but is still very manoeuvrable in waves. That, combined with its excellent stiffness and light weight, make this the SUP suited to the widest range of conditions of any board on the market.

The process forms the top and bottom - (ASA) surfaces of the board over aluminium moulds. These formed surfaces are then pressed over a pre-shaped, lightweight EPS foam core, (the lightest surfboard foam available) which is covered in 6-oz fibre glass cloth and epoxy resin to give the board strength. This construction provides an extremely stiff, lightweight surfboard that is approximately 30% more durable than a standard polyester surfboard but almost identical with regard to its flex characteristics and weight.

When you learn to surf, there are three key elements that help you enjoy the experience of those first waves :1. A shape well-adapted to beginners and easy progression2. A strong, hard-wearing board that won’t be easily damaged3. A quality board at a reasonable priceOur ACS board range gives beginner and intermediate surfers the advantage of a tough, easy board at a budget price.

5’10’’ Fish Dynamic performance!

The versatile Pocket Rocket is renowned as the ideal first surfboard for grommets as much as it is regarded as an excellent small-wave board for accomplished surfers of approximately 45-70kg. Truly reflecting its name, the Pocket Rocket is a dynamo that offers the stability and buoyancy of a longboard with the manoeuvrability of a shortboard packing a lot of volume into its short length. The secret is its short, fat design that incorporates a wide nose and tail, allowing the Pocket Rocket to catch waves early for a board of its size. While suitable for small children just starting out, it nonetheless packs a punch when ridden by a more experienced surfer.

6’7’’ Shortboard Up your surfing performance with the 6’7’’ Shortboard! Looking for a board that will accelerate through cut-backs, off-the-lip and mid-face manoeuvres? You’ll be stoked with the new heights that this performance driven, durable, shortboard will take you to. Intermediate surfers agree it’s the perfect first shortboard, advanced surfers will find this a reliable board across a wide range of wave sizes and conditions. Smaller kids will love the 6’7” as it offers plenty of board to get them going as its standard shortboard dimensions have been slightly increased to cater to more of a beginner/intermediate market.

7’3’’ Mini Malibu No wonder this is the world’s single best selling surfboard! The Mini-Malibu (or Wahine model for girls) is the perfect all rounder. A fabulous entry-level board for new surfers, it features a refined combination of stability for ease of paddling and enough performance to make it a fun board for the more advanced surfer. Versatile and a joy to ride, the Mini-Malibu / Wahine surfboard will take you from your first ever surfing experience through to gliding down the unbroken wave face or ripping up the lip! Durable enough to survive learn-to-surf wipeouts that leave other boards on the beach, this low-cost board will bring you hours of fun on a great range of wave conditions.

7’9’’ Natural Surf 2 An updated design of an old favourite!

Perhaps the most versatile of the ACS range, The Easy Rider is everything its name promises - an excellent combination of longboard stability and manoeuvrability, with just enough length to make it easy to control. Its user-friendly design provides ample flotation to catch all types of waves while the performance shape enables ‘down-the-line’ fun for first timers to advanced surfers. The Natural Surf 2 gives lightweights and smaller surfers an easy to carry, durable and stable “big-board” feel for starting out. However, heavier or bigger surfers will enjoy the mid-range length and proven performance for their transition to shorter boards and bigger surf conditions. Our original 7’9” Natural Surf gained a reputation for versatility, long-lasting and affordable surfboard – so we added subtle changes such as a nose-protector.

8’4’’ Magnum Learning to surf as an adult

Built to give performance to bigger surfers, the Magnum’s exceptional volume makes it easy to paddle and catch waves, no matter your size or ability. Offering its riders a fast learning curve, its mid-range length keeps it loose and fun in a wide range of surf conditions. Intermediate surfers will gain confidence and progress quickly by catching heaps of waves and easily turning this board through the faster sections of any break. This durable, ACS built, 8’4” Magnum surfboard will fuel your surfing addiction!

ACS Padded For beginners and surf clubs

Third year, great success with surf schools, clubs and rental for the first two years, gaining acceptance with all kinds of surfers. The ACS PAD series takes all the benefits of the ACS’ s great shapes with unbeatable durability and couples it with a Segmented EVA deck pad. Meaning there is now no need for wax, ensuring the board stays clean for longer while providing unbeatable traction and a great indicator of where to stand on the board. A great option for surf schools and any surfer that wants to spend more time surfing and less time waxing.

Construction Technique: ACS surfboards are created using a moulded polyethylene shell filled with polyurethane foam which is found in a regular fibreglass surfboard. This means that your new surfboard will survive dings and damage that would see a fibreglass board out of the water requiring repairs!

BIC Sport’s E-Comp (Epoxy Composite) construction technique produces a board that is approximately 30% more durable while being almost identical with regard to stiffness and weight when compared to a similar polyester constructed surfboard. To accommodate the needs of more advanced surfers, E-Comp surfboards provide shapes that not only suit the intermediate surfer, but also experienced riders who know how to ride a surfboard.

7’6’’ Performer Performance perfection!

Combining that elusive blend of versatility and performance with unbeatable durability, the 7’6” Performer lives up to its name! Possessing the stability and ease of a longboard with integral design elements of a quick-turning shortboard, the Performer offers you the chance to pump up your surfing technique while decreasing your board length. Able to embrace a wide range of wave conditions, it offers heaps of fun and a versatile ride through its tested, refined and proven shape. Constructed via BIC Surf’s E-Comp Technology, a light weight EPS foam core layered with epoxy resins and fibreglass is thermoformed with an epoxy-hybrid outer shell.

9’0’’ Longboard A longboard with no limits!

9’4’’ Nat Young The elder statesman’s choice

When five times world champion Nat Young declares his respect for a particular longboard, you know it’s going to be exceptional. Designed by his long time surfing mate Darrell “Rooster” Dell, this 9’4” is Nat’s personal favourite – and it’s also the preferred longboard of many intermediate and experienced surfers who want a longboard that combines superb design, smooth wave entry and speed with exceptional manoeuvrability.Darrell’s 9’4’’ design is lightly concaved with conventional rocker through the nose, which then flows into a flattened area right below the rider in the paddling position to allow efficient paddling and smooth wave selection. From there it moves into a rolled V, pronounced under foot to provide easy and smooth rail to rail transitions. Managing to deftly combine the delicate combination of those two critical design factors ensures that the board is the ultimate in versatile surfing, with all the characteristics of regular construction with regard to weight and stiffness, and the sturdiness of E-Comp Technology.

10’0’’ Noserider Outstanding flexibility!

Offering big volume for big riders, Bob Pearson poured over a quarter of a century’s shaping experience and devotion to longboarding into this refined 10’ longboard. Incorporating well-proportioned volume and excellent glide with outstanding noseriding design, it’s suitable for the surfing spectrum from absolute beginner through to seasoned campaigner. The 10’ Noserider is one of the easiest boards to paddle, its modern design ensures effortless and early wave entry, while its light and durable E-Comp construction makes it effortless to handle in and out of the water.

Construction Technique: The process forms the top and bottom - (ASA) surfaces of the board over aluminium moulds.

GO WINDSURFING

Page 29: Bic Sports Catalogue 2011

Simple, consistent quality, fun performance : key elements for enjoyment on the water, and these are BIC Sport’s key objectives for the BIC Windsurf range.

Simple ranges make it easy for people to make the right choice of board, and once you have the right board you know that they have been designed and built to have a long life time, and their good price on the second hand market shows how popular and what excellent value for money they are. Manufactured in France using a technology unique in the world, our boards are tough but light. The exceptional growth of the Techno 293 One Design, especially among youth racers, is proof of the reliability and quality of our product. 360 young riders from 30 countries came together at Martigues in the south of France for the 2010 World Championships, an increase of 30% over 2009, which itself had been an exceptional year. A phenomenon not only in the world of windsurfing, but the entire sailing world too.

That same reliability and quality is also to be found in the Core series, bringing the joys of funboard to the masses. Boards with great performance, easy to ride, quality fittings and at an incredibly attractive price. The Techno range continues to deliver reactive freeride boards aimed at riders looking for performance, responsiveness, quality fittings and easy riding in their equipment. The Beach range combines the exceptional strength of polyethylene construction with modern design and an unbeatable price, a combination that will interest windsurf schools, and families looking for inexpensive, robust rigs to get them on the water.

The most dynamic in windsurfing. To race under completely equal conditions, with affordable equipment and in a great competition atmosphere, the Techno 293 OD is the best way to do it ! An ISAF International Class board for under 17s and under 15s, the Techno 293 One Design has undergone an explosion of interest in the last three years. 360 young riders from 30 countries and 4 continents were on the starting line for the latest World championships in France. More than 30 countries have adopted the board in 2010 as their chosen tool for bringing on young riders. The Techno 293 One Design is now the biggest fleet in world windsurfing and the most dynamic class in windsurfing and in sailing. For all the latest information and news, competition results etc. visit www.bicsport.com or www.techno293.org

Techno 293 OD

What helped the Techno 293 OD become such a successful Class Racing board was its general performance and easy control. With a high volume and moderate outline, the Techno 293 OD provides a stable platform for learning to windsurf. A daggerboard provides directional stability and makes sailing upwind a breeze. In light winds, the near 3 m length helps the board really glide through the water, making windsurfing an exciting option in sub-planing conditions. Once the wind gets up, the concave hull helps boost the board onto the plane making for great funboard sailing. Its lightweight and solid construction ensure that the performance and durability remain even after intensive use.Competition aside, the Techno 293 OD is ideal for learning and leisure funboarding. This versatility enables clubs to reduce their overheads and equipment costs by having just one board model from learning right through to racing. With high quality fittings it really is a reliable, high performance board, comfortable in all water conditions.

Hybrid

Youngsters under 17 years of age all race on the Techno 293 OD, as a progression towards the elite level racing on the Olympic board. However, in between these boards there has been a need for a new, efficient and affordable board on which youngsters can continue to race after they reach the age of 17. BIC Sport’s Hybrid arose out of this need and is officially recognised by the French Sailing Federation. The Hybrid is designed to be fast from 5 to 30 knots, and with its performances it is now teasing international racing organisations. And in addition, the BIC Sport Hybrid is not only a raceboard for youngsters ! It is also an all round and easy-to-use funboard for windsurfers of all ages and experience levels. There’s lots of international interest in the Hybrid at present, where it has rapidly taken the place of old-school race boards.

Beginner level windsurf boards have made considerable progress as regards their stability, and that for some time now, but are nevertheless frequently a bit fragile for the kind of intensive use they get. Responding to the needs of windsurf clubs, BIC Windsurf is launching a brand new range called the «Beach». It’s the result of an innovative mix of technologies already to be found on BIC surf boards and kayaks. The outer skin of polyethylene is the same as that used on BIC Sport kayaks with their proven strength. The internal construction borrows from the BIC ACS surf board with its massive knock-resistance. The shapes have been developed with maximum stability for beginners in mind but are still very manoeuvrable to help learn some progression moves.

Beach boards will therefore be very useful for windsurf schools looking for good, solid, modern and easy to learn on boards. Both models come with a retractable daggerboard system that is very simple to tune.

Beach 225 D Learning and progression

The most easily accessible of the Beach series. It will suit heavier weight beginners looking for a highly stable board for learning in good, strong conditions.

Beach 175 D Great compromise of thrills and stability

The Beach 175 is a great compromise board for medium weight beginners. Quite long, it gives excellent glide in lighter winds but is still very manoeuvrable.

Powerful acceleration, light in the hands, and a huge wind range!

In order to support the growth and development of the Techno 293 OD and Hybrid classes, BIC Windsurf developed the One Design Rig package for use specifically by youth sailors on hybrid boards. This rig package has been designed to be raced in the widest wind range possible, representing the best possible compromise between light wind pumping performance and high wind planing performance.

The key features of these rigs include:• A huge wind range: from 6 to 30 knots. By tuning the downhaul and outhaul, the sail can be rigged either very full with a tight leech, or very flat with an open leech.• A draft placement at approx. 40% from the front of the sail (freeride sails = 30% / sub-planing sails = 50%), offering the best compromise between lightwind performance and high wind control. • 6 batten / 2 cam configuration for the best compromise between weight and performance.• A very stable profile for ease of use and control in the high winds.• A tack strap tensioner for maximum tuning range and power in light winds.• X-Ply reinforcements in critical areas, durable luff pocket material and webbing batten tensioners for ease of use and practicality in a club and racing environment.

Though you may not win every race in all wind conditions, the goal of the One Design sails is to make sure that you have the tools to win the regatta!

Delivered in a very practical sail bag that includes additional pockets for storing the mast and the mast base, and the possiblity

to attach the boom so that it can be carried « all in one ».

Learning has never been so easy!!

The Nova rig package is the ideal choice for “leisure” sailing on relatively flat water. It has been designed with pure simplicity and durability in mind, and is ideally suited with our Nova range of boards. It allows you to learn and progress into the sport of windsurfing without worrying about your equipment!

The sail has been designed on a fixed mast and boom length, so when you get to the beach all you have to do is thread the mast up the sail, pull the downhaul to the base of the mast, the outhaul to the clew of the boom, and then go sailing! The sail is made from tough Dacron, is well reinforced and super hard wearing, great for intensive use. The mast is made with a durable composite construction, while the boom has a minimum number of moveable parts making it easy to use, light weight, and durable.

This Nova package is aimed at beginner to intermediate windsurfers who want to easily progress in the sport. For clubs, it offers a tough, versatile rig package for intensive use by learning windsurfers and funboarders.

Easy handling all rounder with a steady, smooth powerIdeal for either our Techno or Core boards, the Core is a pure freeride rig, both easy to use and lightweight, a rig that really performs in light to moderate winds.

Its modern design gives it a wide wind range despite the absence of cambers. With plenty of sail area down low, it’s got plenty of power to get you up and planing easily, with a smooth and steady pull allowing you to get into the harness and footstraps comfortably.

With no cams it is easy to manoeuvre during gybes, tacks, and tricks. With its soft response it is a rig that is easy to control and simply fun to ride. The Core comes with a quality mast and wishbone and is excellent value for money. It’s ideal for all our freeride boards and for making your first runs.

Delivered in a very practical sail bag that includes additional pockets for storing the mast and the mast base, and the possiblity

to attach the boom so that it can be carried « all in one ».

Two technologies to help you optimise your sailingBIC Sport is the only windsurf manufacturer in Europe, and the only one to have mastered composite material technology, heat moulded in aluminium moulds. The new technology for 2010-2011 concerns the Beach range boards. The polyethylene skin is the same as that used on BIC Sport kayaks that are renowned for their strength. The interior uses the BIC ACS technology used on our surf boards and which has amazing resistance to knocks. This technique means we can produce ultra-strong boards that perfectly match the needs of windsurf schools, and individuals just getting started. The other technology that we’ve been steadily improving year on year is relevant to the TS and CTS constructions: a fine ASA final coat covering the glass and carbon fibre reinforced polystyrene core, the whole mix high pressure heat moulded in one single process. That gives optimum results from the materials, reducing weight and giving a performance equal to more expensive sandwich construction boards but with much better resistance to knocks than Epoxy sandwich. The other big advantage of these two technologies : guaranteed faithful reproduction of the exact original approved by the shapers and riders.

Thermoformed composite : three versions for three different usesDifferent versions of thermoformed technology have been developed to optimise the construction of each board series according to the different types of performance required from them. • CTS: designed for stiffness, light weight and strength. Incorporates uni-directional carbon fibre reinforcements along the rails and under the foot pad. (Techno and One Design).• TS: strength is the main consideration with numerous glass fibre reinforcements at all the important points on the board. (Core).• TS/EVA: the same basic technology as TS boards, but including an integral layer of EVA foam on the deck in the construction for improved ride comfort. (Nova).

GO KAYAKING

Page 51: Bic Sports Catalogue 2011

There are limitless kayaking possibilities and our 2011 collection has something to answer each and every need, whether it be with your family or friends : Sit-on-top to discover the pleasure of sea, river and lake kayaking, sit-in kayaks for higher performance, adventure kayaking, or an inflatable kayak to get you to those truly secret and remote spots. Stable, practical, tough and well designed at the same time, BIC Sport kayaks are the essential water holiday toy.

Our sit-on-top range is extended this year with the arrival of the Diablo, joining the celebrated Bilbao model in our all-rounder kayaks range. It incorporates the same qualities and design features, fittings and finish that have made the other kayaks in our sit-on-top range so successful, and like all the other BIC Sport kayaks, it’s 100% recyclable at the end of its life. In our range of high-pressure inflatables, the new Nomad pushes the concept of the go-anywhere kayak even further with some innovative design features. Our range of fittings has been further improved with brand new futuristic backrests and an extended range of paddles to suit all styles and sizes of paddler.

We wish you some very enjoyable paddling in 2011.

Creative designs Innovative products Gliding sensations

The seat ergonomics of the whole BIC Sport kayak range have been particularly developed for optimum paddling comfort.• The seat is roomy and comfortable, and is also inclined and padded to keep the paddler in place, and relieve leg pressure while using the foot braces.• The centre of gravity is positioned low for better stability, but above the flotation line so that the bottom of the seat stays dry. An optional seat is available as an accessory to optimize comfort. The comfortable paddling position of the YAKKAir kayaks gets similar attention to detail, with a dry paddling position on a rigid base, fully fitted (backrest and foot stretchers) that gives paddlers unrivalled comfort for an inflatable.

THD - Tri Hull Design : designed for funThe unique THD shape provides the optimum in speed, comfort and stability for BIC Sport Kayaks. The result of 30 years of BIC Sport watercraft design and innovation, the THD shape has been developed to provide improved gliding and stability while maintaining maneuverability. Inspired from current tri-maran designs, the THD shape features a central section (1) for increased gliding, two outside hull sections (2) to stabilize the kayak and two intermediate concaves (3) to create lift and an optimal mix of water and air for heightened performance. These designs have also been picked up on by the Observeur du Design, which has awarded BIC Sport numerous prestigious "Etoiles du Design".

These Etoiles were in recognition not only of the kayak design, but also of BIC Sport's TST construction technology that is environmentally friendly.

YAKKAir : The choice of materials and the design of our new YAKKAir range have been the subject of an enormous amount of research, resulting in a kayak that is

light weight, good looking and delivers great performance. The dynamic, double-concave hull gives the kind of handling you’d normally expect from a rigid.

A revolution in inflatable kayak design. An award has actually been granted to this concept end of 2009 with our YAKKAir HP 1 having been rewarded with an Etoile du Design.

BIC Sport kayaks are particularly well equipped with practical and quality accessories: abrasion protectors, mesh, mooring straps, carry handles, and watertight hatches on the "Fishing" kayaks. These details make for comfortable kayaking and contribute to your kayak's durability.

1- Foam pads on the seats = better paddling comfort2- Rubber-coated or Integrated front and rear carry handles = protection from dings and scratches and easy launching.3- Abrasion protectors front and rear = for greater protection + easy launching.4- Safety lines = for easy re-entry into kayak.5- Elasticised straps = for secure carrying of equipment and easy accessibility.6- Transport net = stores your equipment within easy reach.

TST - Twin Sheet Technology : exclusive construction techniqueTwin sheet Technology creates a product that is lighter and stronger than rotomoulded products. These qualities, coupled with our UV resistant polyethylene, give BIC Sport kayaks exceptional durability. Durable and rigid: With 30 years experience in the design and manufacturing of water sports equipment, BIC Sport has used its vast knowledge to make BIC Sport Kayaks fast, comfortable and stable. The hulls of all BIC Sport kayaks have clean fluid lines despite their compact size. These characteristics give the kayaks excellent gliding and stability qualities.

Construction

Page 56: Bic Sports Catalogue 2011

The BIC Sport inflatable kayak range is aimed at two types of kayakists: those who do not have enough room to store a rigid kayak during the winter, and those who like to travel and bring their kayak with them, appreciating their lightness for easy transport on foot, by plane or by car. BIC Sport inflatable kayaks are constructed with both high pressure and low pressure inflatable components. This innovative design is what gives them superior glide and performance qualities when compared to other inflatables on the market.

Kayakists who started with the Sit-On-Top can easily progress with the new BIC Sport Sit-In Adventure Kayaks. With their longer and more powerful hull, kayaking on the Adventure kayaks brings different sensations and better glide to go off for longer trips. Their cockpit is wide enough to let one get in and out easily in capsize situations and their width ensures a certain stability.

Canoe Kayak Magazine : « What if the SOTs were the future of kayaking ? stable, secure and easy … what more to ask for to start kayaking ? ». On a Sit-On-Top, as the name suggests, you don’t need to worry about getting trapped inside if you capsize. You don’t have to empty it and it is easy to get on and off if you wish to go for a swim for example. BIC Sport has brought quality to these kayaks “for all”: solidly built, carefully chosen materials, modern design, quality fittings, BIC Sport SOTs are stable and perform well.

The Ouassou is designed as a versatile, fun kayak with a wide range of use. With its excellent glide, control and maneuverability, the Ouassou is ideal for beach fun. The stern handles let you hang on and swim and allow easy access on board. The Ouassou also handles surf and waves comfortably. The ‘spatula’ shaped hull is derived from surf longboards and rodeo kayaks. It’s quick and responsive. The slight keel and lateral rail design provide directional stability and excellent tracking. The Ouassou’s optional knee-strap system also allows you to secure your body to the cockpit when you are looking for greater control in waves or whitewater. Its compact form and light weight make this a kayak that is easy to maneuver, transport and store.

The Trinidad is a kayak purpose-built for leisure : compact, capable of taking two adults and a child on board, it’s highly versatile and stable making it suitable for all kinds of situations. For family outings, the ergonomic seats and stability are very reassuring for when you are far from the beach. And for serious paddling and exploring, solo or two-up, its very low-draught, hull design and wide rear storage area are really useful for getting where you want, wherever that is, for going further, faster. The “Fishing” version has a hull shape and fittings to make sure you always have successful fishing trips. The Kalao is a veritable 4x4 of the kayak world. Equally at ease on the sea, rivers or for fun, it really is the kayak for all adventures. Like all BIC Sport kayaks it features plenty of innovations. The fluid, stable hull design makes it simple for a family of two adults and two children to all ride together in complete comfort. That makes it the first true 3 (adult) person sit-on-top on the market, with 3 proper ergonomic seats. Essentially, the Kalao combines capacity of the old style family canoe, with the safety of a Sit-on-Top kayak! The other big first : it can be adapted to take an electric motor. The largely flat hull design with very little water draught is extremely stable and allows the kayak to go almost anywhere. Such aspects as storing your belongings while kayaking, as well as carrying and transporting your kayak have all also received detailed attention. One other important point : it’s unsinkable.

The Adventure is the logical next step after our SOTs, enabling one to move on to a more physical type of kayaking, without difficulty. Its glide and performance is much better than that of a Sit-On-Top and its little skeg at the stern give its good tracking. Its wide cockpit gives good leg protection and it can be fitted with a spray skirt. Wider than on more sporty types of kayaks, it allows more freedom of movement and allows one to get on and off easily without the fear of staying stuck. On the Adventure, it is therefore easy to get back in after capsizing, after a swim or an under-water diving session.Stable, compact, fast, it has been designed with comfortable volume, and is equipped with large hatches for storage. With the Adventure you can go off on a trip with enough equipment (up to 135 Kg max load) and track fast without necessarily having had lots of practice.

Developed directly from the successful YAKKAir HP, the YAKKAir Lite is aimed specifically at coastal paddling close to the beach, for rivers and for other inland waters.Suitable for all skill levels, stable, strong and light weight, the YAKKAir Lite is the ideal way to get out on the water on your holidays. Folded down into its tough storage bag, it's simple to transport either on foot or in the boot of your car. On the construction side, the same multi-material format as used on the YAKKAir HP (Polyurethane bladders + Dacron bladder sleeve, multi-tube bottom with a coated fabric outer skin) has been used. The rigid stiffeners at front and rear tips help to pre-form the hull, sharpening the cutting edge and further improving the already excellent glide.YAKKAir kayaks can be fitted with flexible deck cover to keep splash water out, without any hindrance to movement or safety.

The YAKKAir Lite1 has been conceived for one person use. Stable, fast, light weight and super comfortable, it's a fully-equipped kayak with a comfortable seat coming as standard.

The YAKKAir range is a true revolution in inflatable kayaks. The guiding principle of these innovative boats has been the use of multiple materials in the construction to help reduce weight, plus the combination of a keel and a high-pressure inflatable hull/floor to maximise the V effect and performance. The YAKKAir series are lighter, perform better and give a more comfortable ride than conventional inflatable kayaks as you are paddling in the dry thanks to the rigid high-pressure floor. Wind drag/resistance is reduced and they are easier to steer at sea, giving them a performance equal to that of existing rigid designs. YAKKAir kayaks are perfect for your seaside holidays : folded down into a carry bag, they're easy to carry on foot or in the boot of your car and are fully inflated for use in minutes using a high-pressure pump with a pressure gauge. YAKKAir kayaks can be fitted with flexible deck cover to keep splash water out, without any hindrance to movement or safety.

The YAKKAir HP1 has been conceived for one person use. Stable, fast, light weight and super comfortable, it's a fully-equipped kayak with a comfortable seat and foot stretchers coming as standard.

The Yakka can be set up in minutes: just unfold the hull sections, secure the center support and inflate the sides. For pack-down, simply deflate the sides and fold the hull closed. Once folded, its impact-resistant hull measures only 1.50m (59”) x 76cm (30”) and the inflatable bladders are protected by the durable and smooth PVC materials. The Yakka is an innovative concept and design that makes paddling accessible and attractive to a wide range of consumers.

BIC Kayaks | Fishing collection

TrInIdad

Fishing from a kayak is a sport that has developed rapidly in the last few years. A kayak allows you to get off the beach easily without needing a big, heavy boat. In a kayak you can go fishing where and when you want, solo or with friends.

Camouflaged colouring of green and beige helps the kayak disappear into its background. The rear storage deck with integral elastic straps allows you to carry bags or cases with extra equipment.

Stable and fast, the Fishing series get you quickly to the best fishing spots, and into very shallow or rocky water without risk. You’ll be right out there in nature !

BIlBAOWith its very rounded hull shape and narrow tips, the Bilbao has great glide and excellent stability, guaranteeing you complete safety for your solo fishing trips. The intelligent deck design and quality fittings allow you to carry any kind of load. Its reduced length and weight make it easy to store and transport.

DIabloOver 4m long, the Diablo Fishing has a good glide and lots of space. It is a stable and fast kayak which will make you reach your fishing spots effortlessly with all your fishing gear within easy reach.

TRINIDADCompact but wide, the Trinidad is the kayak for double paddling. It’s a highly stable boat, designed for solo or two-person fishing trips. It’s got great storage possibilities for your fishing equipment. It can be fitted with the appropriate mountings to take a small electric motor.

yAkkaIr hp2The YAKKAir HP 2 Fishing is carried in a wheeled back-pack for easy transport, whether you're on foot or by car. It only takes a few minutes to set up and is ideal for reaching difficult fishing spots. Its high-pressure keel and high-pressure floor with their solid PVC skin form a highly-efficient V shape hull. Lighter but as powerful and comfortable as a rigid sit-on-top kayak, the YAKKAir HP 2 Fishing can also be fitted with a protective canvas cover. It is made from sturdy material that will withstand potential damage from fishing hooks. The YAKKAir HP 2 can also be used for solo kayaking, leaving lots of room for all your fishing gear.

Fishing range kayaks are fitted with rod racks and watertight hatches for carrying extra equipment.

GO SAILING

Page 75: Bic Sports Catalogue 2011

A wind of change is what the O’pen BIC has brought to the world of dinghy sailing for kids. Young sailors now have a true glide machine for real excitement on the water. The O’pen BIC, with its modern and powerful rig, is a fast boat, quick to respond, self-bailing, and is fitted by the best marine hardware manufacturers (North, Ronstan, Robline). The O’pen BIC is THE link between the Optimist generation and the new generation of sailing dinghies.

Launched in 2006, the O’pen BIC has already convinced more than 4000 young sailors. Not only is it a fun boat, for pure enjoyment on the water, but it’s also a clever and quick racing boat. The O’pen BIC is an International ISAF class, and a complete race program has been established world-wide. Recognising the dynamic and modern nature of the O’pen BIC, many sailing federations have chosen it to be their officially-recognised boat for their young sailors.

Page 76: Bic Sports Catalogue 2011

O’pen BIC

For fun, recreation, perfection and racing

The hull is made of thermo-formed polyethylene, which is both affordable and durable. The O’pen BIC is also produced in the spirit of sustainable development: low-energy consumption during the production process and all production waste is recycled. The hull is 100% recyclable, very durable in the long-term and requires minimum maintenance and upkeep. In 2007 BIC Sport was awarded the French Sailing Industry’s «Prix du Bateau Bleu» for the ecological concept behind the O’pen BIC.

The hull of the O’pen BIC was designed with fun sailing as the priority. It is a modern boat where the hull is as open as possible, thereby leaving the helmsman completely free to move around and trim the boat to any wind and water conditions. When hiking, the large sides allow the sailor to set-up comfortably with his/her feet in the straps without placing any unnecessary stress on the body. The totally open and sloping cockpit means that there is absolutely no water in the boat either during sailing or just after a capsize.A relatively hard chine design was chosen for the bottom shape of the hull. Used by numerous modern boat architects, this design offers an excellent compromise between performance and stability. When reaching or broad-reaching, the boat accelerates quickly to planing speed. When close-reaching, the boat sets on its chine and has excellent performance up wind. The hull includes integrated carry handles for easy launching into the water and easy transport.

The aim of the International O’pen BIC Class is to provide an exciting format of international and national dinghy sailing for young sailors. The steady annual growth of the Events’ Calendar is proof that the Class’s formula of providing exciting race formats on an attractive boat is a great success. At present there are over 10 countries that have regular event calendars of national competitions, and the international World O’pen Cup is the pinnacle each year. The O’pen Cup event style is very original, with some highly innovative courses and race rules derived from funboarding, where races are short and quick, the course changes regularly and can include crosswind legs and freestyle moves or an adventure race, and protests are judged immediately out on the water so no racing time or effort is wasted! These improvements are in line with ISAF’s Introductory Rules of Sailing, and make a break from the 40 year history of «classic» sailing. O’pen Cups are a volatile cocktail of the fun of modern board sports and pure regatta racing, great for motivating our young sailors and keeping them hooked for life! Alongside the busy racing calendar, the O’pen BIC class has also appeared as a junior event alongside the Louis Vuitton Trophy regattas which attract the best regatta sailors in the world. A proof of its modern appeal is its ability to sail alongside the America’s Cup yachts in Nice, Auckland, Sardinia and Dubai. More information on the Class rules and on the various regattas worldwide can be found on the Class website: http://class.openbic.com

Used for hunting, for fishing or as tenders for boats, the Sportyak 213 and Sportyak 245 are more stable, more durable and lighter than the classical dinghies. More than 100 000 BIC boats have so far been manufactured and they have become a standard feature in the yachting world.

The new Sportyak 245 is the outcome of 35 years of experience and has taken the place of the famous BIC 252. Emphasis of safety and ease of use are the central elements of our Sportyak range. The Sportyak 213 and 245 are stable, strong, light and 100% recyclable at the end of their life-cycle.

Exceptional stability

The safety of the double hull

Their catamaran hull gives them much more stability than all flat or V hulls. This is a major advantage for hunting, fishing or the transport of equipment to an anchored boat. The Sportyak 245 can comfortably accommodate three people who can, if necessary, change sides without any risk of capsizing.

The double hull gives added safety to passengers. Even if a very violent impact made a hole on the outside hull, the inner hull would provide sufficient flotation to get back to shore.

Comparison Sportyak 245 versus V-hullAs soon as the weight is off-centre a V-Hull becomes

unstable and dangerous, unlike the double catamaran shape hull of the Sportyak 245, which provides high stability and therefore prevents capsizing.

Test done with two adults on the same side.

The toughness of polyethylene

Light weight

Easily carried

The Sportyak 213 and the Sportyak 245 are light which is an essential characteristic for a boat that is most of the time carried by hand and loaded onto roof racks. It is thanks to their double hull structure that even though they are very light, there has been no compromise on safety aspects.

The Sportyak 213 and the Sportyak 245 are particularly easy to carry. Several carry-handles have been positioned around the Sportyak 245 to facilitate its beach-launching and handling. The Sportyak 213 can be fitted with a roller kit. The Sportyak 245 is fitted with wide rollers integrated into the design of the hull which do not affect in any way the boat’s performance on water, whether it is being rowed or powered by an outboard engine.

The Sportyak 213 and the Sportyak 245 are made of polyethylene which makes them virtually indestructible. You don’t have to worry about leaving them in dinghy racks or on the beach. UV rays, salt and every day impacts have no effect on them. When no longer in use, these boats are entirely recyclable.

On the Sportyak 245 the wheels are integrated into the design of the hull

With their exceptional light weight and great build quality, their incredible longevity, and above all, their incomparable stability, BIC boats have built a solid reputation in the world of leisure boating. The new Sportyak 245 is the result of 35 years of experience and development ! This mid sized dinghy combines the best features of those other legendary boats that are the BIC 252 and the Sportyak 213. Light weight, easy to transport, giving you excellent glide when you row, it can also be fitted with either a thermal or electric motor. From carrying men and equipment to an anchored boat, to getting out to the best fishing spots, to being a great toy for the kids… There are almost no limits for this super safe and versatile boat !

Page 88: Bic Sports Catalogue 2011

Weights kept always centred, guaranteeing stability

Priority to stability and safety

Catamaran shape and integrated wheels

Priority to stability and safety : a large proportion of serious accidents in leisure boating happen on small boats serving larger craft. Safety has all too often been overlooked on this type of boat, but safety was the top priority for the 245’s designers. Four factors guided the design team in their work : keeping the weight evenly balanced when in use, being unsinkable, stability and getting back on board in case of falling off. The team tested every conceivable “accident” scenario and the Sportyak 245 is the result of all that work. The relatively low cockpit rim and numerous carry handles etc. make climbing back in after falling/jumping out simple and safe. When empty, the cockpit float line is below the level of the floor, allowing the cockpit to auto-empty.

One, two or three people can fit comfortably in a 245. The double rowing position allows you to choose your seating configuration. That means you can adjust to any size oarsman for efficient rowing without compromising balance.

The catamaran hull gives the best possible stability. It means you can load up on one side of the boat without fear of capsizing. This shape with flat lateral sections gives also an exceptional glide, with an efficient anti-drift.The wheels are integrated into the design of the hull.

The details that make all the difference

The rowing seat is fitted with integral “glove compartments”, and the carry handles and other openings make it easy to fit an anti-theft cable around the boat. The flat rear design was also designed for simple, safe upright

All-terrain wheels make transport easy

The Sportyak 245 is fitted with two wide rollers for easy handling over beaches, banks and jetties. The wheels are integrated into the design of the hull and don’t in any way affect its performance in water. You can load all your equipment in the boat and take it easily down to the water’s edge !

Integrated handles are user friendly

The various carry handles make the boat easy to carry for one or more people. It weighs in at just 39 kg, making it easy to load onto a roof rack.

Its hybrid shape combines the advantages of C shape and bridle in order to offer the best turning ability of the Takoon range. FURIA LTD is intended for riders looking for a fast turning kite, efficient de-power, and better high end.As at ease in freestyle as in wave, the FURIA LIMITED comes out tops in every discipline.

The FURIA LIMITED range is already notorious for its flying characteristic; we changed a few details that make it perfect.

The profile is harmonized with the moderated aspect ratio to make it easier to handle. The kite is fast, but perfectly balanced to always fly under control. It is a light kite, up wind ability is excellent. Jumping ability is excellent with instant punch upwards and a huge amount of lift.

FURIA LIMITED is designed to switch from freestyle to wave setting without any bridle change; we want to keep it simple! You can easily trim the kite power / bar pressure and turning ability on back and front connectors.

Freestyle and wave riding design.

The first Chrono proved that power and upwind ability can be fun and easy.

This new model keeps a specific design, a featuring conical leading edge and flat center part without strut, and becomes more rigid.

It was quite a challenge, to manage to keep the incredible freeride performance while increasing control and easy handling. The new Chrono goes far in the window and offers the best low end and best upwind speed of any kite in the Takoon range.

Strut placement has been optimised, especially on tips area, to give better rigidity in strong and gusty wind. The segmented leading edge design also allows for a direct efforts transfer and gives more solidity to the kite in the air.It doesn’t flutter and relaunches easily.

Its relatively high aspect ratio increases wind power and always maximizes its output. The fact of having more ratio contributes to the general performance of the kite. And the leading edge bridle system offers smooth and reactive large depower.Upwind ability is excellent, the turns are good and jumps are easy with good lift.

The new Chrono introduces a single inflation system featuring a new moulded valve for better durability. It comes with an updated version of the Diamond bar.

The range is evenly designed because each surface is developed independently so as to have the same feeling with each size. Broadly put, the big sizes get more AR and less profile for better penetration in the air.

The 15m² offers unmatched performance for light wind.
