Bible Study Techniques
Do you find it difficult to study the Bible? Do you read, but the words seem to just sit on the
page? If you study but can’t seem to apply God’s word to
your everyday life in today’s world then perhaps this Bible study can help you.
Chose a Book from the Bible
This method will allow one to study one entire book at a time.
Start with a small book such as 1 Peter or 1 John. This method is great for beginners, however, it can
be geared to any level of study.Allow one to focus on specific book without “getting
lost” in to much information. Will allow one time to develop their own techniques.
Start with Prayer
One of the most common reasons that Christians don’t study the Bible is based upon the complaint, “I don’t understand it.”
Before the start of each study session began by praying and asking God to open your spiritual understanding.
As you pray, realize that the words you are studying are inspired by God.
2 Timothy 3:16“All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness. (NIV)
Psalm 119:130The unfolding of your words gives light; it
gives understanding to the simple. (NIV)
Read the Entire Book
Spend some time. Perhaps the next several days, reading through the entire book.
Do this more then once.Look for themes that may be woven through the
chapters.Sometimes a general message may be prevalent. The theme of the book of James is that of
“Persevering through Trials”.Take notes on ideas that jump out at you.
Zoom In
Next, slow down. Read the book verse by verse. This will help one to break the text and look for a
deeper understanding.Consulting a Bible dictionary can help one to better
understand the different meaning of different words used throughout the text.
Choose Your Tools
By continuing on this verse by verse study, there is no limit on the wealth and understanding that will come from your time spent in God’s word.
Choosing the right tools will aid you in your learning.Bible DictionaryBible Study Guide
Be a Doer of the Word at Your own Pace
Don’t just study God’s word for the sake of studying. Be sure to put the word into practice in your life.
Once you have finished the first book, choose another one and follow the same steps.
Luke 11:28But even more blessed are all who hear the word of
God and put in into practice.

When I look at the “Ace” in my deck of cards, it reminds me that there is but one God
The “Deuce” tells me that the Bible is divided into two parts……
The Old TestamentThe New Testament
When I see the “Trey” I think of the Trinity
The FatherThe SonThe Holy Ghost
When I look at the “Four”, I think of the four great evangelists that preached the Gospel
There wereMathewMarkLukeJohn
When I see the “Five”, it reminds me of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps
There were 10Five were wise and
savedFive were foolish and
shut out
When I look at the “Six”, I know that in six days, God made the great heaven and earth
The “Seven” tells me on the seventh day he rested from his work and called it Holy
When I see the “Eight” I think of the eight righteous persons God saved when he destroyed the earth
There was Noah,His wifeTheir three sonsAnd their wives
When I see the “Nine”, I think of the lepers our Savior cleansed
Nine of the ten didn’t even thank him
Of course, when I see the “Ten” I always remember the 10 Commandants
The 10 Commandants that God handed down to Moses on the tablet of stone
When I see the “King”, I know that there is but one King of Heaven, God Almighty
When I see the “Queen”, I think of the blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Heaven
And the “Jack” or “Nave” is the devil
When I count the spots, on my deck of cards, I find 365 spots, the number of days in a year
.
There are 52 cards, the number of weeks in a yearThere are 13 tricks, the number of weeks in a quarterThere are 4 suits, the number of weeks in a monthAnd, 12 picture cards, the number of months in a year
