At an outset, New Year greetings to all, 2016 had a mixture of
some great achievements and some disastrous accidents. The
beginning of the year saw the Pathankot attack and the year end, , , ,
the surgical strike and demonetization. The flagship Digital India
programme of the Govt. has a vision to have a total cashless
economy, which may be one of the main mottos for this year. To
promote cashless transactions and to convert India into cash-less
society, various modes of digital payments viz., USSD, AEPS,
UPI etc., are available. In this venture security of the honest
earnings and reliability have to be ensured and creating awareness
among common people is a challenge. This roll out is a gradual
and time taking.

i. A Japanese company has come up with the world’s first laundry-folding robot at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show(CES) in Las Vegas, integrated with image analysis, AI and robotics as its core technology.
ii. Swiss company, Celeroton, introduced a matchbook sized motor which can spin in excess of 1 million revolution per minute.
iii. Yokogawa Europe has unveiled the AQ7277B, a high-performance optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) module for use with remote fibre-test systems (RFTS), successfully improving efficiency of operation and maintenance of already installed optical fibre lines.
iv. Engineers from UCLA developed a new electromagnetic wave router that offers wireless devices to send and receive information on the same frequency with unlimited bandwidth.
v. The TPS3000-24 industrial power supply from TDK delivers up to 3200W. It operates from a Delta or Wye 350 to 528V AC three phase input, avoiding the requirement for step down transformers and assisting phase load current balancing and is suitable for use in applications such as test and measurement equipment, printers, lasers, RF power amplifiers and semiconductor fabrication.
vi. China is setting up the world’s highest altitude gravitational wave telescopes in Tibet prefecture close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India, to detect the faintest of echoes resonating from the universe.
vii. Murata power solution has developed a capacitor that can withstand the extreme temperatures experienced by equipment located in environments
viii. Researchers in Everspin Technologies have been working to make Magntoresistive Random Access Memory which may allow memory density of 400 GB per square inch using nano-sized magnetic ring.

A Day without Social MediaA Day without Social MediaA Day without Social MediaA Day without Social MediaAman Soni, 4Aman Soni, 4Aman Soni, 4Aman Soni, 4thththth sem sem sem sem With changing times we switched to what we call a "revolution". As my younger sister
puts it, "not having breakfast once in a while won't be much of a change, but not sharing
the image I took, would mean that it's a waste". So for us it is more important to take
pictures , neither because they matter to us, nor because they are important "random"
memories, but because they are to be shared as random memories.
And in this revolutionized world of ours, how difficult would it be to stay without media?
To wake up and not find a text, or to take a picture and keep it saved in Gallery without
posting, or to actually view news channels for news rather than moving around and
surfing? Well, at first it could be hard! People around the world have shown serious
withdrawal symptoms (as addictive as drugs) like looking at phone for hours, waiting
for a text, or clicking selfies, and not getting likes, and the sadness that follows!
Now it's high time, to realise that pictures are to be taken for personal memoranda and
not for the likes To realize, there exists a "SOCIAL" life beyond the social media. So, take
some time out from the virtual world of ours and you will find yourself surrounded by
real friends, real emotions, and maybe, the REAL world.

The Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM)BHIM)BHIM)BHIM) was rolled out by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on 30th December 2016, in an initiative to
enable fast, secure and reliable cashless payments through mobile
phones. BHIM is inter-operable with other Unified Payment
Interface (UPI) applications and bank accounts, and has been
developed by the National Payments Corporation of India
(NPCI).The Android app is already available on the Google Play
Store, and is downloadable at the link below:

This seals the government’s push towards digital payments after the
November 8 demonetization that resulted in the scrapping of high-
value Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes.

Reusable Rockets Reusable Rockets Reusable Rockets Reusable Rockets Rockets typically are destroyed on their maiden voyage. But now they can make an upright landing and be refueled for another trip, setting the stage for a new era in spaceflight. Thousands of rockets have flown into space, but not until 2015 did one return like this: it came down upright on a landing pad, steadily firing to control its descent, almost as if a movie of its launch were being played backward. If this can be done regularly and rockets can be refueled over and over, spaceflight could become a hundred times cheaper. Two tech billionaires made it happen. Jeff Bezos’s BlueJeff Bezos’s BlueJeff Bezos’s BlueJeff Bezos’s Blue Origin first pulled off a landing in November; Elon Musk’s Elon Musk’s Elon Musk’s Elon Musk’s SpaceXSpaceXSpaceXSpaceX did it in December. The companies are quite different—Blue Origin hopes to propel tourists in capsules on four-minute space rides, while SpaceX already launches satellites and space station supply missions—but both need reusable rockets to improve the economics of spaceflight. Blasting things into space has been expensive because rockets cost tens of millions of dollars and fly once before burning up in a free fall back through the atmosphere. SpaceX and Blue Origin instead bring theirs down on fold-out legs, a trick that requires onboard software to fire thrusters and manipulate flaps that slow or nudge the rockets at precise moments.
Pioneers
Benjamin Franklin discovered one of the fundamental laws of physics – the Law of
Conservation of Electric Charge – and proved that lightning is electricity. He also:
invented bifocal spectacles, invented the Franklin stove, and invented the lightning
rod.
Gustav Robert Kirchhoff this German physicist has made massive contributions to the fundamental understanding of black-body radiation emitted by heated objects, spectroscopy, and electrical circuits.
