Instilling Character

History and TraditionsBGA’s mission is woven into the fabric of the School, and we have been instilling a sense of character in students since 1889. From the Honor Code that every student signs to the annual tug-of-war between the School’s Greer and Plato societies, BGA distinguishes itself through time-honored traditions.

Body, Mind and SpiritBGA believes in an education that goes far beyond the academic experience. Students’ morals, ethics and character development are fostered by a sense of community.

Expectations for LifeEveryday BGA students are challenged not to only meet high expectations but to exceed them. Caring faculty, staff and coaches regularly go above and beyond to help students reach their potential whether it’s in the classroom, on the stage or on the playing field.

BGA was like a family to me. Every teacher provided support and encour-agement to shoot for the stars. My football coach pushed me to be more than just another football player, and my musical director supported me daily to create my own path for the future. The student community at BGA gives everyone the chance to get involved, be active participants and create leadership opportunities in clubs, sports or the arts. Being involved in so many aspects of my school confirms for me, even now, that I will be linked to BGA forever.

Daily EngagementParticipation at BGA is not an option...it’s an expectation. All BGA students are engaged in classroom discussions, participate in extracurricular school activities, and serve the overall community to develop and hone the skills they need to be successful in college and in life.

Outstanding FacultyWhile advanced degrees and excellent academic credentials are important, it is the commitment to going the extra mile, from pro-viding extra assistance to students before or after school to driving the debate team across the state, that defines members of the BGA faculty. And, because of the personal attention from BGA’s exceptional faculty, students regularly place high in National Merit Scholarship programs, Advance Placement testing and standardized SAT/ACT testing.

College PreparationAll BGA students, not just those at the top of the class, enter college ahead of their peers because of the school’s integrated academic program that literally begins in kindergarten. With a one-to-one college counseling program in place, BGA consistently has over 90% admitted to their first choice of college.

On the Cutting EdgeTechnology is pervasive in today’s society and BGA embraces technology with school-wide use of computers in the curriculum from the Lower School to the Upper School. Through the 1:1 program, BGA faculty and students are trained to utilize technology in their day-to-day lives, preparing students for college life and careers where technology will be commonplace.

Being a part of five generations attending BGA, I can honestly say this school is one of the best things in my life. BGA has given so much to me in terms of molding me into the person I am today that I can never give enough back.
